Fun fact: when the battery reaches the end of its life 79% or lower Apple will service the watch and typically just replace the whole unit for the cost of a battery! (As long as the product is still supported) I would keep it and try and get the battery health to below 80% just with use and then get it replaced for a like new one by Apple at a low battery rate cost.
I think you’re wrong. I just brought my Hermes series 5 in for battery replacement. Under AppleCare. They don’t replace it. They send you a brand new watch. I had AppleCare and my cost was zero. I Without AppleCare, $ 399. In your case $ 409 plus $ 399. That is, if they don’t simply replace the battery.
It is dried out sweat. The salt + the sun must have destroyed the top coating. Try car cleaning stuff like a windshield watermark remover (it will remove the hydrophobic coating tho) Then use a mild abrasive (polishing compound) Then add a ceramic coating on it. Very intrusive but it does work. Add painters tape all around the watch while doing so. That watch is indeed a good deal. Keep it Drew!
You’re right , it is comparable to the infamous “stain marks” on old Retina MBPs of the 2014+ era, also worn off top coating, and looks that could be restored with scrubbing off the entire coat.
Damn, I use a Spigen rugged armor case and an Alien Surface screen protector on my S9. Always charging 40-80%. I love it. It is basically like an out of the box watch. 😅😅

I had a Ceramic S5 I got a great deal on right after the S6 was released. I sold it in late 2022 for a used S7 Stainless and I still miss the clean look of my Cermaic. It was even basically new because Apple replaced it for me under AppleCare + because of a software bug it was having. Sometimes I wish I had kept it because its so collectible and looks so clean, but at the same time I love the display and functionality of the S7. If I still had mine I would have traded watches with you just to make mine a part of Tailosive history lol
There are fisheye removers for car glass that work perfectly fine with the sapphire glass. I got those stains once I went to a water park and nothing worked to remove the stains, a friend of mine applied fisheye remover to the glass and it was as good as new in less than a minute, hope it works for you too!
That display looking green specially while moving certian stuff in dark mode is a sign of changed display. I recently got my iPhone X repaired at a third party store. Works fine and is technically OLED but I have the similar issue.
Hey, didnt have any apple watches so far but i am an electronics engineer who might have an expaination for the stains. These definetly look like trace amounts of water ingression (i have notices very similar things in engineering samples, that were tested hard). The watches seals are engineered to be watertight. Over pressure and temerature alu and steel have very different coefficients of expansion compared to ceramic, wich barely moves. So my suspicion is the watch was engineered to be watertight for steel an aluminium, but when the swaped the material for ceramic, the waterseals were the same from the alu/steel watches and the watertightnes calculations with respect to thermal/pressure expansion/contraction didnt match up anymore.
Completely agree, I've always been in love with the Ceramic Apple Watch. It was the best design ever. It was just to dam expensive. - Side note, one thing that always irritated me about the Apple Watch, was the up charge for different build materials. I get it, if you change to a valuable material. But my coffee cups are made of ceramic,,, and they weren't $1000.... What gives Apple! - Same for the steel one. At least the Ultra's titanium is an actual premium material, and holds a higher value in other applications across the board.
my guess is the oleophobic coating is wearing off my guess is from sweat or moisture being trapped between the screen and a case or screen protector and wearing down that top coat. if you use 70% alcohol and a microfiber it’ll remove that, however fingerprints will be much more visible. on another note, last year i got a series 7 stainless and milanese loop for $275 at a pawn shop. i always wanted a ss apple watch and it was legit the deal of a lifetime lol
Congrats on the Series 7 SS, just be careful with the Milanese loop, especially if you got the graphite color option as the material will definitely scratch the watch casing and anything that isn’t the silver colorway has no way to repolish the surface without removing the finish.
I still have the original apple watch paired with my IPhone 13 pro max. Every year I get the itch to get a new one. Then the itch goes away. Prob cause I don't use it daily.
when you described the “greener than grey” thing i sort have been noticing that on my iphone 13 pro. it’s not that big of a deal as it only ever happens when the brightness is all the way down and i’m in a dark room, but it’s still there. also, while i’m here, i have an apple watch SE first gen and in the dark as well the screen sometimes flickers slightly like the brightness goes up and down by like 5% it’s really weird
I once had that on my Mac. I don’t know if this is the same problem but when I was in hospital once a nurse cleaned it with a liquid that was strong alcohol and I later got more and more of these stains. It seemed like the coating was getting off.
The confusion about what the previous owner did, reminds me of when I bought a used 11 Pro Max. The screen was replaced so it was probably broken and the stainless steel frame oh boy. Not only was it slightly BEND but it also had the top left corner being deformed. But not inwards like you would expect if it had a huge impact or whatever but it was deformed outwards. I still have no idea what happened to this poor thing 😂 (But the sapphire camera glass was still perfectly clean)
I believe it’s heat spots, where the screen is delaminating from the glass. I saw a sapphire screen before with that exact same thing on a Apple Watch. It could be from welding or letting it lay out in the sun for too long.
I was thinking the same thing I've had this happen before on a phone when I went camping I also had a cheap TV in there because my friend was homeless for like a week and it happened to it to didn't really change anything and they weren't noticeable unless really looking at it
You’d be crazy not to keep that watch. I’ve had multiple Apple Watches with the always on display, and I never noticed a difference in the colors between them. Could it be a replacement screen?
I have a series 5 ceramic watch. Battery health is at 70%. I made arrangements with Apple to have the battery/watch replaced and they returned it to me saying that they would not service the watch for no particular reason. I suspect the reason is they don’t have another ceramic series 5 to replace it with. I will never purchase another Apple product as long as I live.
If you send it to Apple for a battery replacement you actually get a like-for-like refurbished watch rather than the same one back. Might be worth trying if you can’t manage to clean the display
I have a series 5. I bought it used, and it's still going strong. Take a bath with it on and everything. I think it was better than paying $529 paying for the latest and greatest. By the way, I currently have an iPhone 13 pro with AirPods series 1.
It looks like something has damaged the screen coating on the glass. You might get an interesting video out of taking the watch to an Apple Store and seeing what they have to say about it. If it’s a manufacturing defect they might even replace it under a warranty claim. They could also confirm it’s not an aftermarket display.
Drew, My guess is that an antireflection coating was originally present on the surface of the sapphire crystal and most of it was removed by a previous owner using a solvent that normally should not be used to clean Sapphire coated watch crystals. Perhaps acetone?
I purchased a series 3 white ceramic about half a year ago on eBay and it has exactly the same water marks on the edges you describe that is only visible in bright sunlight. No amounts of scrubbing and cleaning seems to remove them
Greener than grey is because it's a PMW OLED panel. It flickers on and off 24/7, it slowly burns out the pixels. It's also very bad for your eyes just like modern iPhones. I have the same on my AW5, watchfaces don't look as good anymore, red is not red etc. eitherway, tomorrow ill get the AW8 SS. Even OLEDs with DC dimming suffer from this issue. No matter what fans tell you, oled burns in, it's sadly not reliable tech.
I’m in a similar situation. I’ve got a series 6 titanium 44mm, series 7 aluminum 45mm, and ultra 49mm. The 6 and 7 were gifts and the ultra I purchased. I was originally gonna sell the 6 and 7, but I’ve been on the fence pretty hard. The 6 is what I wore to my wedding, the 7 has an immersive screen, and the ultra has the best battery plus durability. Not sure what to do!
Sell the 7, it will lose the most value (like all aluminum Versions), you could use the 6 for sleep tracking and hit the gym (the weight and shape of the 6 is more comfortable), the ultra through out the day .
As ‘average Apple Watch users’ my wife and myself are still respectively using Series 0 and Series 2. The battery life is still good, they pair to newer iPhones as long as Watch OS was kept updated and most watch faces have a black background so the big bezels aren’t visible. I actually prefer the more squared off casing of those early watches so they’re going nowhere until the batteries become too weak and then will go into my Apple collection!
the last of the "squared" off design was the series 3.... They are still really good to use in 2023 even though they are not getting any more software updates... just ensure u get a cellular model as they came with double the storage and a over sized battery
I was able to buy a ceramic series 5 for $165 with the ceramic case itself cracked. It still works perfectly and isn’t falling apart or anything but I wouldn’t trust it underwater.
Just got my Ultra this week. It’s amazing. My first Apple Watch ever. Came with the trail loop. It’s a fine band, but I want something nicer. I will check out the one you got. Not gonna pay 450 for it, tho…
@@MrThankman360 Yeah it’s one of the highest end bands you can get, definitely wouldn’t pay £450 for it though as you say. I have the trail loop too, doesn’t get much more comfortable then that!
They probably tried polishing the ceramic to clean it up and got the sapphire on the edges while polishing. I guess now you would have to look up polishing sapphire . Probably will need a dremel and of course the tip to polish. You’re going the need the speed and friction/heat to get that sapphire polished.

Not super noticeable, except in direct sunlight.
Yeah, it didn’t happen on my stainless S2, but did on my S4. I’m not sure why. If you find any fixes for yours, let me know! Thanks for the videos also, I enjoy your content!
I have a series-4 and a series-6 and switch between often for battery life, features, etc. One thing that I wish I had done from day-1 was purchase a bumper case for each, which I have rectified for both. I just loaded the latest watchOS update, and to my surprise, the battery life on the 6 seems much improved and is my biggest complaint against the 6. At this point, just like my iPhone, there is no compelling reason for me to upgrade either the watch and/or the phone. I want features and performance rather than incremental and minor upgrades.
I also have a series 5 Apple Watch and love it. Mine is the regular aluminum poor person version 😊. Its paired to my iPhone 12 Pro Max though. The iPhone X is a bit smaller and older than I would want to use.
I hope apple brings back the edition model for the series 9. You’re making me wanna buy a ceramic watch id put it in a picture frame and put it up on my shelf
Drew, I have those marks on my Series 4 too, I couldn’t figure out what they are either, couldn’t wash it off. Couldn’t find anything about it in the web until I saw your video 🤷🏻♂️
When you unboxed the watch, I saw the water looking stains. My mind went to mentally cleaning the screen. I try to keep my SE and series 8 Apple Watches ⌚️ clean.
I still have the series 5, still very speedy and works like a charm. None of the new features since series 4 or 5 have been useful to me as a young man
When your battery condition goes below 80% you can try a battery replacement at an Apple Store for cheap. Most of the times Apple gives you a new Apple Watch with the same specs.
I been buying/selling with eBay since 2004. With tech it has to be new or like new. Sellers with 99% positive. I still have 100% after 19yrs. Good deal but I would return it if the spots stay. I ❤ my AWU
I have a little experience on eBay and rule of thumb for me is to only buy from 99% or higher, and lots of reviews. 97% might not seem like that much lower but it does make a difference in my research. The fact that the seller didn't mention the spots or screen and it came locked are all things that would lead me to leave a bad review. I suggest returning it. It's nice having a piece of history but functionally the Series 7 is the much better option.
I got an m1 14inch MacBook Pro 1tb with two more years of apple care for $1600 in December on eBay. Just happened to win the auction. It’s been perfect since then. Had 97% battery health. Had very minor external scratching but everything else works great.
I have the same weird splotches on the back of my pacific blue 12 pro Max🥲I got my phone from Amazon refurbished and read that it might be bits of dirt that rub the paint off from friction in a case.
Look at the watch then ask your self dose it makes you happy? Then think if you returned would you Miss having it. .... you did mention the 7th gen watch in your video .... We will have to see if you go back to that version :)

At this point, just like my iPhone, there is no compelling reason for me to upgrade either the watch and/or the phone. I want features and performance rather than incremental and minor upgrades.
I also have a 44mm Apple Watch series 7 and I hope you keep yours so we can continue to be Apple Watch buddies
17:09, I have an old Series 5 (aluminum) that is also more green than grey.
The Apple Watch SE is also a great option if you want something brand new, that’s cheap and has 99% of the features you care about
Have you tried finding what can stain sapphire and go from there?
I've tried but none of the solutions have worked
Hmmm. It might be (for whatever reason), an acid reaction. Or some other kind of reaction.
My series 7 has those weird hazing’s on the sides of the watch. I always thought it was strange, and I have no idea where it came from.
I am still using the series 4. No compelling upgrades since then.
I also have a series 5 Apple Watch and love it. Mine is the regular aluminum poor person version 😊. Its paired to my iPhone 12 Pro Max though. The iPhone X is a bit smaller and older than I would want to use.
That looks great..my eldest brother gets his own Apple watch series 5 with the iPhone 11 Pro Max..which is suit for him and looks great for it..👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I hope apple brings back the edition model for the series 9. You’re making me wanna buy a ceramic watch id put it in a picture frame and put it up on my shelf
My series 4 also had a green tint to the display, my series 7 does not.
None of the new features since series 4 or 5 have been useful to me as a young man
Those spots looknto me like spots UNDER the screen protector...
you mean the spots are created by the screen protector?
When your battery condition goes below 80% you can try a battery replacement at an Apple Store for cheap. Most of the times Apple gives you a new Apple Watch with the same specs.
I have an apple watch series 3. Works very very very well
Now need to get a white iPhone 5c to match the ceramic watch and AirPods
haha never knew there was a all white iphone!
I been buying/selling with eBay since 2004. With tech it has to be new or like new. Sellers with 99% positive. I still have 100% after 19yrs. Good deal but I would return it if the spots stay. I ❤ my AWU
I’ll buy the Applewatch Ultra 2 this year
That happened to my Apple Watch Series 6 it got water marks after I went to the water park Maby it somthing they put in the water.
Screen probably changed.
without the original band and with a damaged display (maybe not saphire)
I would returned it
My brother’s Series 4 watch display also had a green look after over 3 years of use…so I think it’s just how the displays age
I think the older series 3 apple watches 0led display has better whites than series 4-6 watches which I do find has a blue tint
Did you call a jewelry store and see if they can clean it for you
I’m still rocking an Apple Watch S4 with 88%🔋 health and probably won’t upgrade til the watch 10
You can try to polish the screen
I have a little experience on eBay and rule of thumb for me is to only buy from 99% or higher, and lots of reviews. 97% might not seem like that much lower but it does make a difference in my research. The fact that the seller didn't mention the spots or screen and it came locked are all things that would lead me to leave a bad review. I suggest returning it. It's nice having a piece of history but functionally the Series 7 is the much better option.
Agreed
I got an m1 14inch MacBook Pro 1tb with two more years of apple care for $1600 in December on eBay. Just happened to win the auction. It’s been perfect since then. Had 97% battery health. Had very minor external scratching but everything else works great.
Had a feeling you were gonna get this when I saw the banner change on your twitter profile 😂
The oleophobic coating may be worn in the corners.
1:30 I think no money goes to Apple if you buy from eBay.
I use Apple Watches se 1 generations and iPhone 13 Pro Max and beat studios buds
Drew. Use soft scrub!!! (Only on sapphire glass people)
I have the same weird splotches on the back of my pacific blue 12 pro Max🥲I got my phone from Amazon refurbished and read that it might be bits of dirt that rub the paint off from friction in a case.
Take it to a watchmaker and he can polish the glass.
I just got my Ultra. I love it, but there’s still a part of me wishing I’d gotten the sleeker and lighter, series 8
The battery life from the ultra makes up for the less sleek design.... Being able to run cellular all day if needed is priceless
Sent it to Apple for repair and they will send you a new one. Not sure how much they will charge.
$80, not a bad idea
Look at the watch then ask your self dose it makes you happy? Then think if you returned would you Miss having it. .... you did mention the 7th gen watch in your video .... We will have to see if you go back to that version :)
Best looking apple watch omg I love ❤️ it!!!!!!! Don't get me wrong I am loving the Ultra & seriously hoping they make them with different color action button & smaller for us girls....
"...take it to Anchorhead have it's memory wiped...that will be the end of it.... I don't think he (Obi Wan) exists.. He died about the same time as your father... I said to forget it.."
