The Cricut mugs are really nice but I hate that they slapped their logo on the bottom which means I can't sell them to customers.
Also, in my experience, to avoid ghosting, you want to put a stop to the heat as quickly as possible. Some people put their mugs in water to shock the mug into stopping the sublimation process, but I've found that a trip into the freezer for 10 minutes stops the sublimation VERY quickly and then you can peel off the design relatively easily. I've never had a ghosted mug doing it that way. I wouldn't recommend letting it sit at room temperature because the sublimation will continue until the mug drops below the temperature required to start the sublimation.
Just a minor FYI. :)
Interesting I never heard of the freezer trick. I've never had any issues with ghosting by letting it cool for a few minutes. I don't let it cool completely no issue.
@@candicer It's a combination of ghosting and oversaturation. I do graphic design so when the colors don't match it bugs me. For most people, they'd probably never notice 🤣
And it definitely does lessen the possibility of ghosting but is it necessary? Probably not. I just like eliminating variables!
@@vincentferrari ahh that makes sense if you are a graphic designer! You see things most people wouldn't. But if the mug is hot from the press and then you cool it in the freezer. Wouldn't the change in temperature cause it to crack?
@@candicer You would think, right?
Thing is ceramic changes temperature very slowly, so you can't really shock it enough to crack it by putting it in the freezer. All the freezer really does is cool the surface faster so that the ink sheet stops off-gassing (You sublimate around 400 degrees, but the process completely stops at around 300).
You can shock a ceramic mug into cracking by putting it in ice water right after the press (which is why people who do the water thing to stop the process keep the water at room temperature or warmer) but the front of the shelf on the freezer seems to work really well!
@@vincentferrari that's interesting thanks for the info. I learned something new 😊
thank you for your advice on the timing on the mug press.
The best paper 📃 for sublimation is Blanks Galore and it requires no butcher paper. As it does not bleed through and the best part you don't have to do no color adjustments. Just set to plain paper and print set to best/ high quality and you get amazing results..
What do u mean u don't need color adjustments
Is sublimation infused or can it peel off/felt on top? Is it permanent on the mug or does it fade with time?
Agreed
I am having trouble with the yellow print from the tape coming through on my mugs. What do I need to do to fix this problem. Should I use the clear heat tape because I am using the brownish heat tape
Just ordered thanks. I got a buy one get one deal but it’s 8.5 x 14 size.
Perfect instructions for my first attempt at mugs! Thank you!!
Thank u for taking that time to show me. Perfect pace of explanation. There is another video on sublimation video that an expert commented on their video that show the exact temp and time and what to do so it does not yellow or ghost. Its a new video how to sublimate on cotton.
Thank you so much for helping me to find the self-confidence to go for it and I am finally brave enough to get crafting with my Cricut fun stuff🤗 I have a few different machines by Cricut but have been too shy and lacked the courage to take my artistic genius to the next level. But after watching a few of your very thoroughly clear and helpful videos, I am now getting my hands back into the groove of creation and I am so so so grateful to you. So again, thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️
Your message seriously means so much to me and I’m so glad I have been able to help!!! 🥰
Same here. Just curious, have u started? I also have a few machines that I havent touched bc Im so intimidated. Thats why Im curious. I hope all is well and good luck!
This is a very detailed video on how to do it. Thank you very much Kayla!!!
That came out so vibrant. Great job!
Thank you so much! 🥰
I knew I could do sublimation on these but had to watch someone that’s did it before with awesome full details that shows the right way so thank you …off to make my mug !! ☺️
Your video saved me!!! Thank you!
On a side note, I used a real photo. The face came out 3 skin tones darker than the original. Any suggestions so I dont waste another mug?
Silhouette studio kept freezing on my computer so now I either do it through Canva or word now. You just add your png and then size & print. I have an epson
I was having the same issue this time!! It was going so slow too with the image being so big. I'll have to try through one of those programs. Sounds easy! Thanks! :)
@@KaylasCricutCreations super easy! The great thing about Canva is you don’t have to install extra software.
Thanks for sharing! Super helpful! I finally got my cricut mug heater along with the sublimation mugs.. When I tried printing out my image, my ET2800 printed the paper blank.. The ink level is all the way up. Tried to do nozzle check, nothing was printed on the paper, did head cleaning and nothing changed.. I am stuck now and have no idea what to do about it.. I hardly use it, too.. 😢😢
Thank you for this useful tutorial! I did not understand which program you used. Could you please write it?
Thank you in advance!
this seems cool even though i dont have a printer nor mug press lol
Thank you for this tutorial this has helped me so much, as just starting out on sublimation, have you uploaded the printer settings for Windows please as would like to set the Sub Printer so i don't have to keep changing thanks
Hi Kayla if I don’t have butcher paper for the heat press can I use parchment paper? If yes, just one layer? Thanks 😊
What would be the best way to add designs to clear hard plastic tumblers? This way, or the way you use in your starbucks cup video??
Vinyl would be best for plastic tumblers. The hart from the press would melt the plastic.
I use comos ink as well so these would microwave and dishwasher staff using that ink ?
Hi, Can I use any printer machine or do I have to use a certain type with the cup machine?
Will you please add the link for the tape dispenser?
Love it ❤️ since I can’t decide what side to put image on I do both lol
Thank you!! :) Great idea! I thought about doing that also!
I made one similar last week so fun!
Awesome!! Those designs are so fun! 🎃🕸
Hello there! Very useful video.
Can I use sublimation paper on regular printer inkjet with regular inks?Thank you!
Hi - No unfortunately you cannot use regular inks or printer for sublimation. However with that being said, you can buy a basic printer and sublimation kit relatively cheaply if you are looking into doing this as a hobby or for selling mugs.
Hi Kayla I love your videos. I would like to know what sublimation printer do you recommend? I have the cricut mug press but would like to buy the sublimations printer rather than using the infusible ink. Thanks in advance for your tips
Is there place I can get printed sublimation designs like there and shipped to me I don’t want another printer but I have mug press
is there any vids out there on how to put brought designs on mugs already do u put the pic face first of what
Can i do sublimation with the circuit expression. I’m new to all this and want to make my son a mug. Ive had the machine for over 20 yrs and used it once 17 yrs ago
Can I print the image with a regular printer ?
Can I ask what Program you are using instead of cricut
What type of butcher paper did you use?, and is butcher needed every time you press sublimation images on cricut mugs??
Thanks for another excellent tutorial! How do you avoid faded spots where parts of tape covers image?
thank you for you clear instructions for sublimation designs on mugs
my question is how to place lettered sayings on the mugs?
Can I use the Kodak photo sublimation printer with the mug press? Would that work with it? Thanks
Which heat setting do you use ?
The mug looks amazing!!!
Do you have videos of how to put silhouette studio on your computer? I have tried Design Scape and just have had the worse time.
Have you ever done a long..full width of the cup image where there are no gaps? i have a different mug press and i can have the image come upto maybe 1cm away from the hand both sides BUT the ends are still more faint as if the heat is not enough on the ends of the mug heat plate..and i do not want to shrink the image so it is even further away from the mug handles as then it starts to look silly. if you have and you have had the image maybe 1cm both sides of the handle is the ends of the image crisp
I bought silicone wraps for wraps and do not have butcher paper. Would it be ok to just use the silicone wraps on top of the sublimation print?
هل طابعة حبر عادية من hp تفي بالغرض؟
What is the process using sublimation for photos to be put on mugs.
If I design any of colours then can the sublimation printer print the same different colours by only 4 ink that it use
Can we put in twice. It looks like one side isnt on the hot plate. Can I restart it without taking it out and just moving the handle slightly?
where did you get this design? it is adorable!!
is there another mug press your using now ? is there one which can print alot more different sizes?
Great video. Are you able to print gray using silhouette?
Can used parchment paper ? Or dose it have be Butcher paper
oof. I'm new to cricut stuff. I was hoping to use the mug press to make custom mugs off the drawings I do... but I only have an inkjet printer... do... do I need a whole different printer ENTIRELY to even make custom designs.....??? i'm commenting cause I cant find info anywhere on if I can just use the printer I have or not as I cant afford to purchase a sublimation printer..
I know this is from a year ago, but yes, you need a whole separate printer for sublimation. You don't have to buy a sublimation printer, though. You can get a regular printer (I use an Epson ET-2840), and DO NOT put the regular ink in it. Buy sublimation ink, and put that in the printer. As long as you don't mix the regular and sublimation inks, it works just fine.
Hi! I followed all these steps and my ink won’t transfer at all to the mug. I checked and the ink is sublimation ink, the paper is as well (A-Sub) and I used two pieces of butcher paper and nothing. I’ve also played with the ink with no positive result. Do you maybe have any idea as to what I’m doing wrong?
How do we not waste th rest of the page of sub paper ? thank you
Can I sublimated a cricut mug with regular heat press machine?
Really cute. Thanks!
Nice tutorial! Thank you!!
Thank you!!
I want to get this stuff so bad!!! So expensive to get started 😅😭😭 I just want to be an Etsy store owner so bad. 🥺
Can you wrap an entire image around the mug or only one side of the mug?
You can totally make a full wrap design. It’s a little tricky the first time or two but it can be done!
I like really big mugs, it’s a shame the mug press is not changeable for different sizes.
Thanks for sharing!
Does this peel off with time? Or is it infused
It’s infused
Can this work with a ink jet?
Do you reuse your butcher paper?
How did you do multiple colors
What exactly is Bucher paper?
Did the image need to be mirrored at the program?
Yes :)
Do you have to use cricut sublimation mugs ? Or can you use any sub mug ??
So how big is your image??
Thank You 😊
Ok, did not expect that the Silhouette software to be this shitty. Cricut design space is so much easier to work with. You have to spend so much time to make the image fit on the mug properly, while in design space you would be done in 3 mouse clicks
Can I use cricut to design it before print ? 🖨 or what app you use ?
Thank you
You didn’t say that you must print the image mirrored.
Why sublimate on one side of the mug? I do not like one sided sublimation.
I have a printer but can’t get it to work 😭
Is the sublimation permanent or does it fade with time?
No
New Sub Here 🖤🌙
We can’t get the color
Cute
Can I use any printer with sublimation paper ?
