Cheesing automatons

This video was done when the game was first released back in 2018
The reason why i built the houses in staggered fashion and deleting them is to force the dimensions of the houses to be able to fit nicely. the live version now has an improved qol where the houses will automatically "resize" themselves to fit nicely(given enuff space)
At first I gasped when you dismantled the automaton you found on the bridge. Then I realised utilising the two steam cores made more sense
It also removes the Automaton cutscene making it a few seconds faster than normal.
I'm probably late but I'll say it anyway since this game has infinite replayability (at least for me). It's always worth it to dismantle the automaton and build 2 later if you want. Since building will only use 1 core per automaton.

Hahaha, this guy has like zero discontent throughout the whole play-through. I can see why, if someone was managing a city like him it would be hard to complain. I'm still trying to have a no death play-through.
I must bought the game. I cant pass day 18 trying. 😢 I dont want to just copy someone's video of completion . But them again.. it's so frustrating as I'm new lol
@@aerincollins1175 failing is part of learning. The key is not repeat the same mistakes and identify what are the issues and then see if there are any underlying ones as well.

No, not really. Automatons did all the hard jobs and the rest were in well heated buildings

At first i thought you put the tents at wrong places by mistake but then the more i watched the more i realised how genious this was. You put all the houses in a perfect line and make small roads to save wood. Everything so thought out. Amazing play. Well done.

I dont see how he saves wood on doing it this way, compared to just placing houses normally and placing road normally.

Basically what he did is a way of cheesing the placement system to maximize housing density.
@@Shorsey30 by doing that, you house/tent become smaller thus make it more optimized.

I didn't copy the exact layout, but I did what they did where there where six major streets going from the center outward, like spokes in a wagon wheel. That makes city design much more efficient and goes a long way
i tried to follow this to a tee and was able to crush the new home scenario. It definitely took me awhile but this was better than any build guide i have seen thus far. Thanks!

Watching this person place houses has to be one of the most stressful things I've experienced.
yea i was triggered at first but then i noticed he was doing it on purpose to clear the snow so residents didn't have to walk through it. Minor time save in a speedrun
You can fit more houses in the same space if you do it like that.
Clear snow mechanic is usefull tho, he a speedrunner, so it's understandable.
@@7771dnight I don't think it was to remove the snow, the houses don't fit if you place them side by side like that so you have to make certain adjustments to allow all housing to fit in a line as shown. If you've played the game you'd know the pain of not knowing this :(((((

I like how you manage to have all you need at the moment you need this. And this management for resources - to have as low researches and requirements as possible is hot as hell :)

Hello yawnyawn, you played perfect in this video. I did what you did 2 times step by step at normal difficulty and it took 5 hours for me but i couldn't get "golden path" achievement both times. Then i played third time at easy difficulty and did 8 tents at the first night also i didn't signed faith keepers law, so after that i got my golden path achievement. If anyone having trouble with golden path, just do what this guy did in this video but make tents for everyone at first night + don't sign faith keepers. When the priest got beaten, just choose "we will pray for them" option and pray for thieves too or make people have a decision about them. Good luck at golden path and thanks for this beautiful gameplay. ♥ ️

Man i was so happy to get 646 survivor first the first time in 5 days of playing this game. Until i saw this! I didn't even know you could build multiple workshop to decrease the research time!!!! So much to learn.

Fantastic job. Building a more cook-houses stops that 'hungry' problem you were having, one cook-house can't serve the dishes fast enough. 250 a day I think.

Did they patch the game or something? You can place the houses like you do without the extra steps of pulling it out one square and making roads in-between. Not with the hunters huts though. Saves space that way.

It always confused me why nobody ever goes for Generator range upgrades. I don't see why it would be a bad tech to invest in?
I think that the generator range makes it so that the generator has to consume more coal, making it less efficient. also, the regular range is enough to fit all the houses you could possibly need. unless you want a run with weirdly spread-out houses or a run with the highest population, I don't think you'd want the generator range upgrade.
It doubles the coal consumption for each range upgrade if I remember right, so yes. But you can't fit your population into just the first range setting for your generator. Its ideal for late game once your coal economy is sorted for good, you can have max generator range and fit in all your housing, healthcare, and purpose buildings. Then for your economy buildings (coal, wood, steel, food) you build steam hubs around them so they don't have to worry about the cold, but that's just obvious. Ideally, it's based around having the coal to spend, which if you've got good coal mines and automatons to work 'em, you should be set.
Question: Several times throughout this video, you placed houses/tents in an odd, unaligned pattern, built small roads between them, then dismantled them all and put them back in a more aligned row. What was the purpose of this?

Do you keep missing the placement of buildings for a reason?
It's to build unconnected roads between tents, presumably to save wood.
It’s to maximize the space of each tent (fit more houses in each row). When you don’t build next to a road the house will take up more than 2 spaces and you’ll have less houses in each row.

The red barrier near the first hunters hut is now longer :/ so you cant make it perfectly a lined with the wall drill
it's funny comparing different guides and playthroughs how half are team steam hubs and half are team heaters. goes to show you can finish the scenario either way

Hi there, I've watched your video 3 times, trying to get golden path achievement. Many people say that you cannot have Need Crisis throughout the game in order to unlock golden path(which occurs in the video), and faith keeper is a banned law for golden path. So I wonder if that's true. Dose this video qualify for golden path?
This video was from the release version things might have changed. You can dont go down too far faith. it was mostly for minmaxing
