I cleaned carpets for over 25 years and you are honest. I use to have home owners ask if we could get the smell out and they never want to hear you need to trash the carpet, pad, tack and seal subfloor. They will always call someone else until it dawns on them that I was right.. lol
Carpets holds onto SO many odors, pet urine being one of the worst. I honestly don't know how some people can live with the smells that come from their carpets.
We did that in our old house, and for some reason in our new house thought our dogs would be better nope.. we had to replace what carpt there is twice, and we replaced quite a ew areas with vinyl planks. Having a dog that refuses to be potty trained is an expensive PITA.
According to the guy in the video, you have to purchase all new carpet. Three guesses what the guy in the video does for a living. I'll bet he doesn't clean carpets.
I only have one room in my home thats carpeted - the living room, which is a decent size at about 15x25. When i first bought this house and did some remodeling about 17 years ago - i removed the old carpet/padding to replace it all. Knowing i was going to have pets i painted the entire plywood subfloor to seal it, hoping to prvent anything from soaking into the subfloor in the future. I just had to put down my 2nd German Shepherd at 13.5 years old, who unfortunately came down with a UTI about 1.5 months ago and it took about a week to clear up. 5 years ago i bought myself a Bissel Big Green carpet shampooer which is essentially a big rental unit. Even after my dog not being able to get up for a few days, my beigh berber carpet has no odor or noticable stains. If youre gonna have pets, you need a good carpet cleaner and time is not your friend. My bissell was used almost every day to keep the carpet clean and remove any urine accidents as soon as possible, usually within minutes of anything i saw happening. Im SURE if i pulled up this rug id find some stains in the backing - but for now theres no stains, no ordor, nothing shows under a blacklight and thats good enough.
The exact reason I don’t want a pet. There cute but they can really stink up your home. There have only been a few homes I’ve gone to that I cannot smell animals if any live in the house.
Me too. Mine is 17 now and she is wetting every where. I had a new lodger come today and he mentioned the smell. He said my home was lovely apart from the smell. I rent so I cant do a lot. I'm hoping the enzyme cleaner I've ordered will sort it. I've already replaced all carpets upstairs and banned her from going up there and replaced downstairs with vinyl. Her wee has found its way under the kitchen cupboard and small cracks. She is driving me nuts with the peeing. She misses almost all the pads I put on the floor.
What's really strange is how my neutered male cat would spray and pee on everything - mainly walls and furniture, anything at his "butt level" where he could back up against it, and yes it would trickle down into the carpet. Then I had new carpet installed 4 years ago, and literally from the very moment the install guys left, he NEVER had another incident like that again. Looking back I still wish I would have considered vinyl or wood flooring, but hey...it worked out! 🤪
Renters who have pets - this is why some landlords say "No pets" - the cost is very high to throw out all the pad and carpet then hire a company to deep clean the flooring (concrete, etc) underneath. No pet-loving renter is willing to pay the landlord thou$ands of dollars to remove their pet's odors. And if you're a homeowner with pets and carpet, I dare you to look online, right now, at the cost per square foot of brand new carpet installation. *_I double dare you_* .

I appreciate your advice but it was directed to homeowners. Who can just rip it all out and replace. What are renters supposed to do? We can't just tear it out and replace it. Please address this situation for renters. Thank you
Common sense is to either continuously clean it and spray air fresheners cause for bad cases there is no other way to remove the odor but to rip out the carpet
I was wondering the same exact thing...listen, I know that our furbabies can have accidents from time to time, but my gosh, take your damn dog out a couple of times a day. I feel lazy sometimes but I get up or my husband gets up and does it anyway. I'd rather take him out real quick, let him release, then have to deal with this disgusting filthy mess. My thing is right now, I just rescued a beautiful boy 3 days ago, he smelled aweful. Gave him a quick bath as soon as we got him home, but honestly it wasn't a super great bath but it helped a little, so I made him a appointment to get groomed by a professional 😊 this afternoon. Now, for the past 2 days he's been laying on my rugs and stuff and that smell kind of lingers on any fabric so I'm just trying to find a way to get rid of the little bit of doggie smell by the time he comes back home nice & fresh from the groomers....
Having wood flooring is actually more expensive because before you lay wood floor their has to be a vapor barrier membrane due to protect moisture seeping from the foundation/subfloor.. "I still at times smell urine and it drives me nuts and am very sure it's in the padding." get rid of the carpet and seal the concrete with epoxy. epoxy is the only thing that can truly kill the stink.

He's right... the very best way in a nightmare--really stinky urine, etc.... is to tear up the carpet & pad. I've used 1/2 bleach 1/2 water Then give a day or 2 to dry, maybe use fans and crack window a couple inches to get the humidity out, once dry use primer (preferably oil base) to seal up any remaining odor. Then put the new pad and carpet down. Another thing that idk was mentioned in this video is if you have cats... they sometimes will spray urine up the lower walls so there again... clean and repaint your walls... to seal up odor. That should do the trick... you could smell your furniture also... maybe you have to replace that as well etc, etc & your welcome! OH...and if your animals are spraying your carpet you might want to gate them in the kitchen or get a large enough kennel... those metal wired ones are nice. Potty train your animals. If our dog goes pee outside he gets free time... to roam in the living room. Gradually increase the free time as long as they are not having accidents... this takes a watchful eye until they are trained. 24/7
Definitely do not put carpet down on that floor again if they have animals. We got rid of all our carpet and put in amazing waterproof luxury vinyl planks, and it’s the best thing we ever did. Same price as good carpet and no hassle.
Ugh I’m moving into a new rental and the bedrooms have carpet and the house smells a lot of dog (I have 2 cats). Luckily I can keep the doors closed to the bedrooms to avoid them from adding to the scent. The landlords had just replaced the carpets before the last tenant so they aren’t looking to replace them again anytime soon. They had the carpets steamed cleaned but I can still smell the oder and now I’m unsure on how to take on the deodorizing and cleaning myself.
Hi, even after I sprayed pet spot remover and shampooed the whole room it still has a horrible smell smell. And I still have dried blood in places. The carpet is only 3 months old. Can you help?
I would try mopping with several types of cleaners. First a bleach/water mixture. Then lysol/water mixture. Then maybe vinegar/water mixture? Let the floor dry very well between moppings. Then seal the floor with either Kilz or Zinsser.
You need a good enzyme in that situation osr is the best product to use in that situation no pulling carpet or pad treat in place it will cure it guarenteed
Just can never understand why landlords who accept pets allow small dogs and cats.. biggest offenders of peee. I lived in an apartment that wreaked and the landlord said they "shampooed the carpets" .. shampoo? Had to break the lease, I'm allergic to cats and the closet wreaked.
listen this will sound crazy but my butter knives fit perfectly into the cracks between. i soak a napkin in some cleaner and wrap the butter knife and go in and then when im done, i can see dirt or maybe pee on the wet napkin
Ill never own another male cat again if our house has carpet.. he has destroyed our house. Our own bedroom wreaks so bad i wont even sleep in there anymore.
Step one, train your pet. Step two train your pet. Step three, if steps one and two are unsuccessful, get off your ass and buy pads for your pet and/or kennel your pet. If all three steps are unsuccessful, admit to yourself you should not have a pet. The example shown happened over many many weeks and months. That’s an unhealthy situation for both the pet and the owner.
RIP up the carpets and pad, throw down cat litter and leave it for 24-48 hours, sweep up cat litter and mop hardwood floors with bleach water let dry and stain floor and varnish lighty.
Or stay outside until bedtime period. Residual dog urine is bad for our frikkin health and smells Horrible. Urine, chemical cleaner, urine, chemical cleaning pattern is horrible.
I’m British so our products are different & services are different . My problem is worse than carpet because the urine has soaked into a porous wooden floor . I’ve been trying to resoak the wood with vinager & bicarb of soda . Any suggestions from anyone here ? Thankyou
Maybe they can resend and reseal wood first. Also Ozone treatment is effective for odors. I knew someone that had to take out 2 ft of drywall near trim and replace insulation there too from cat urine
It's probably too late now, but I'd advise against the baking soda and instead suggest orange oil... though it might take a lot of applications if the wood was saturated. Oxalic acid removes stains in wood, but not sure it'd work for the odor.
Yea, he recorded this for the owners and did an after thought and stated I could put this on RUclips and have people watch this, make a little extra change(💰) for myself. Two jobs, doing one day of work. Happy me😄
that carpet had a mild problem compared to the carpet I just pulled out of a house. They had a rat dog pissing on the carpet at will for the last 15 years. The acid in the urine had completely destroyed the particle board underlayment, turning it into stinky sawdust. In the thousands of homes I've seen, it was by far the worst (because the problem was everywhere as opposed to just one area). However, the owners were so lazy that they never bothered to try to get rid of the stink and because of that, it didn't stink nearly as bad as it does when people try to use deodorizers to kill the stink. Deodorizers do nothing but magnify the problem.
we have females that are fixed. Its a parsons terrier. She has destroyed at least 3 sets of carpets in 2 different houses. Good thing we love her or she would of been gone a long time ago.
We have 3 cats and one dog, the cats have ruined my kids carpet and I've tried everything and nothing worked. My husband ordered this today so this afternoon I'll give it a try and pray it works.
"I'll give it a try and pray it works." don't bother. it won't. you have to get rid of the little assholes using your home as a toilet or resign yourself to living in filth. Those are your two options.
Great! Meanwhile THOUSANDS of dollars later. Thanks for telling it like it is....which is something I was afraid of. We have way too many cats and thus, the ammonia odor is keeping us from having guests at our house. Yes, we are fostering them for adoption, so hopefully we can rip up the carpet AND padding once THAT happens. Gotta take out a loan though....hmmm..
No you don't, I'm a professional carpet cleaner. This option is just the "surefire" 100% elimination guaranteed service. Get yourself some enzymes and saturate the shizz out of your carpets mate. Let me know what country you're in and I'll recommend one. Should cost about $60-$200.
@@neildepressedtyson540 America. I tried using baking soda and vinegar...soaked for SEVERAL days, THEN shampooed with a Kirby using a combo of their shampoo with Purple Power, still nothing! I'm soooo frustrated. You'd think by now someone would make a carpet cleaner that you just pour on your carpet let it sit 24 hrs, vacuum and DONE! I haven't found that yet, but when I DO, I'm gonna buy them out!! Thanks for the advice! I shop on e-bay, so maybe I can find something on there.
@@barryallenflash1 they literally have those products mate, baking soda and vinegar doesn't do anything on carpets. Fire away whatever questions you've got, I'll answer them-- but what you're describing literally does exist
@@neildepressedtyson540 So, I found a company on e-bay that sells an enzyme based cleaner that is dormant until you use it. It's activated once it has "food", ie urine, poop, etc. What are your thoughts on that? It makes sense to me. If the enzymes are ALREADY active, they will die out by the time you're ready to use it.
So basically the real solution is to replace the carpet lol. That’s lame. What happens when the animals keep peeing on the new carpet? Just gotta get new carpet all the time? Fuck that.
I’m here because we just bought a home I knew I had smelled something when we first came to see it and it. Was mostly in the basement so we did buy the house and when we put the central air on the entire house smelled I’ve slowly started cleaning the vents walls and floors upstairs it smells tons better now downstairs in the basement still needs work it’s the only place on the house that has carpet at some point I want to just remove the rug all together and not bother getting a pet my kids want pets but if this is what I’m going to have to deal with no way Jose lmao 🤣
While I respect your choice to not get a pet, just understand that properly trained, healthy pets who are properly taken care of and given attention do no typically eliminate outside of their litter box or in the house if they are a dog. The problem normally comes in when a pet is very sick, when someone does not properly train them, or if they are mistreated/stressed/uncared for/neglected.
Well, I guess were all screwed now. Have your dogs wear a diaper I guess. I got carpet that had the rubber backing thinking that would help. I guess not.

Back on me… back on carpet… ok back on me
I just moved into a new rental and the house stinks so bad on cat piss! If the real estate doesn't fix this? I'll be screwed! Cheers from Australia
What do you wash the concrete with?
I would try mopping with several types of cleaners. First a bleach/water mixture. Then lysol/water mixture. Then maybe vinegar/water mixture? Let the floor dry very well between moppings. Then seal the floor with either Kilz or Zinsser.
Nothing with ammonia then use a deck scrub brush
You need a good enzyme in that situation osr is the best product to use in that situation no pulling carpet or pad treat in place it will cure it guarenteed
What do you use if you have a subfloor with cat pee that what products should you use.
Kilz primer is the best at least 2-3 coats
How much does a project like this cost?
Who lets their carpets get that filthy and stained?
So it takes over 5 minutes to tell us to replace carpet after you scrub the floor, oh well.
It was a fabulous explanation.
The only solution is to change the carpet. Get rid of animals
How about TRAIN your pets and don't be an asshole
Great job , i hate the smell of pet urine . I use kirby remover works awesome
That's the reason why I won't have any pets in the househouse.
I would never even attempt to clean that..gross just the thought of sitting on that carpet..disgusting
Odor removal? No tips, No hints, No clues.
At least the camera was “back to (him)”.
if you want pets in the house live in a log cabin with a dirt floor !
What name of your company do have one in California
Great video ! Thank you.
What about hard wood floors? Cracks between?
listen this will sound crazy but my butter knives fit perfectly into the cracks between. i soak a napkin in some cleaner and wrap the butter knife and go in and then when im done, i can see dirt or maybe pee on the wet napkin
Bleach then sand it, refinish
Ill never own another male cat again if our house has carpet.. he has destroyed our house. Our own bedroom wreaks so bad i wont even sleep in there anymore.
Well that sucks I can’t afford a new carpet
Step one, train your pet. Step two train your pet. Step three, if steps one and two are unsuccessful, get off your ass and buy pads for your pet and/or kennel your pet. If all three steps are unsuccessful, admit to yourself you should not have a pet. The example shown happened over many many weeks and months. That’s an unhealthy situation for both the pet and the owner.
With the amount of $ they’re spending on difference companies they might as well replace the carpet
I service a lot of apartments and they think there's always a solution to pet urine oh just clean it
How can anyone afford this everytime your pet uses the potty in the house?
Get floors that last like tile or hardwood
Some people are rich, my parents get new floors every 8-10 years because they get bored with them lol.
@@mustasheolll2020 I just shampoo mine alot.
RIP up the carpets and pad, throw down cat litter and leave it for 24-48 hours, sweep up cat litter and mop hardwood floors with bleach water let dry and stain floor and varnish lighty.
Change the carpet and crate that damn dog. No free range until trained.
After all that why put carpet. I see that I'm putting tile
can you pull the carpet back and use a good ozone generator and a strong fan and shoot it under the carpet
Wow! That was real bad everywhere.
Amazing Video, thanks!
👍👍
That was a mouth full of a job description
Yea, he recorded this for the owners and did an after thought and stated I could put this on RUclips and have people watch this, make a little extra change(💰) for myself. Two jobs, doing one day of work. Happy me😄
Not just pets trashing floors, i have a toddler problem 😂😢
why not get tile?
? not everyone can afford to do that. and not everyone can do that if you live in a apartment as well.
If they have the same dogs and cat...the problem isn't solved.
that carpet had a mild problem compared to the carpet I just pulled out of a house.
I wish I could get hubs to agree to snip our intact male. It doesn't mater how many times or he goes while we're outside, he still does it.
we have females that are fixed. Its a parsons terrier. She has destroyed at least 3 sets of carpets in 2 different houses. Good thing we love her or she would of been gone a long time ago.
I implore you to soak the carpet with hydrogen peroxide. Let it sit for ~7 minutes and use a strong wet vac to suck the fluids out.
I amount of carpet cleaning can get rid of pet odor from urine, especially cat. Just get new carpet!! Trust me!
I got rid of all of my carpet and laid down vinyl. End of peed on carpet.
I banned my cat from my room
We have 3 cats and one dog, the cats have ruined my kids carpet and I've tried everything and nothing worked. My husband ordered this today so this afternoon I'll give it a try and pray it works.
"I'll give it a try and pray it works."
don't bother. it won't. you have to get rid of the little assholes using your home as a toilet or resign yourself to living in filth.
What are the names of those products?@@neildepressedtyson540
That was a nasty house.
TMF unchained is a fabulous pet product. Water claw flush extraction.
put in top soil plant corn
So basically the real solution is to replace the carpet lol. That’s lame. What happens when the animals keep peeing on the new carpet? Just gotta get new carpet all the time? Fuck that.
My husky peed on my leather couch what do I do
Throw it out no help 4 it& get rid of pet as well
Looks more like an animal discipline problem rather than professional carpet service problem.
If i only have 1spot about 2ft wide can i cover with a thick plastic and throw a big area rug on top??
Do not do that
Only way to get rid of cat urine is to get rid of the cats sell them to a Chinese guy at a restaurant
Misleading. You didn’t remedy anything. You tore it out. Silly Rabbit
Do not get a pet until the odor is completely eradicated, otherwise you new pet will eliminate in the same areas.
ive used hydrogen peroxide when ive run out of kirby solution works a trea
A FEMALE dog over 50 lbs.. train her well. Mines never had an accident yet. She may when she gets old though.
Well, I guess were all screwed now. Have your dogs wear a diaper I guess. I got carpet that had the rubber backing thinking that would help. I guess not.
Please remember to kill all 3 animals before putting down new carpet! LOL
Thank you for posting this. Informative and helpful.
