Seventh Avenue - Love's Gone Mad

- I find it amazing that this classic High Energy anthem sold fifty thousand copies without ever showing in the charts. In 1985, this kind of music was selling by the truckload out of specialist shops, not least of which was Record Shack itself, and therefore these vast numbers weren't contributing to the Gallup charts of the time. But in Scotland, this was the biggest record of the year in clubs, and in Record Mirror it topped the High Energy charts for a staggering twelve weeks, being the overall biggest record of that year. By the time their American hit, "The Love I Lost", came out, Seventh Avenue had changed line-up four times since the AVI days of "Midnight In Manhattan". They were the first "Boyband" ever to present a sexy, somewhat homoerotic image. "The Love I Lost" was a major release in the USA, on Atlantic records, and very big on the Billboard dance charts. The original 1979 album had been a disco concept album, but by the time "I Hear Thunder" and "Ending Up On A High" had become so big, the identity of a sexy homoerotic boy band was set, paving the way for Take That and Boyzone.
As Stephens partner for 7 yrs, it's an absolute joy to see him here, he told me all the tricks of making this video !!! Thanks Ian !

Ian Levine - You have been found guilty of purveying seriously excellent music over the years. Thi one is an all time classic. Excellent stuff for some excellent reminiscences of my 'coming out' year in Plymouth. This track was probably the most played record at Cruisers Club in Plymouth and I often heard it at Heaven in London. Thanks ever so much.
Probably my favorite HiNRG track of all time. A true classic!
I was one of the fifty thousand that bought this single, including the extended mix...I just loved it. Maybe I was mad.
To comment further...This was (for me) the definitive line-up...without this group and this video there is no New Kids, Take That, Boyzone, N'Sync, etc. I had to hunt for this everywhere after a friend of mine saw them live and went on and on about them, then I heard it in a club in Atlanta (The Armory), thankfully we had Let The Music Play a DJ specialty store that introduced me to more music by Mr. Lavine and Seventh Avenue...the sleeve to this particular track was one of my favorites! :)
Blackpool Flamingo 2001 club 1980s ...... it's all coming back to me now like a drunken haze !!!!!!!!
Well it's 2017 and I have just watched the blueprint for modern boybands from 1986 - this song is a classic. It traversed all club scenes in Scotland. It must have sold about half it's total sales here. Radio Clyde played it for years. Classic.
THIS IS A 80S CLASSIC...
"All I see is rainbow colours"
To me, this sums up the gay scene mid/late 80s, Sweaty, dark poppers fiiled dance floors and me in awe of it all being in my mid teens.
The time of my life!
How great to see and hear this again and to see the great Mr Day again.
i followed these guys EVERYWHERE in the west Midlands in 84-85.....I ADORED them.....
I remember watching this video on Saturday Superstore years ago... Still a great song today!!!! And what a hot video!!!!
I came across this single at random in the basement of a record store in Philadelphia during a recent holiday. I had never heard of these guys (I'm 34 years old and mainly grew up in the US) but I was intrigued enough by the memory of the amusing cover that I decided to look it up on RUclips. Reading all of these comments makes me wish I had bought the record :(
This record brings back great memories,i saw the guys in a gay club in Nottingham and i still have their signed photos as well as the record.
Love It! Love It! Love It! one of the best High Energy ever XXXX XXXX and I still think at one point they sing Muscle Man :-)

I believe this was the first "Powerplay" (payola song) played on the European offshore radio station, Laser Hot Hits, way back in December 1986! Well, according to my recordings going back that far anyway! :-)

Lazers and The Other Club in Manor House N4, just brilliant
Dead or Alive, Divine, even Simple Minds blaring out on the video screen, people falling off the stage after 1 too many. Kelly Marie and Edwin Starr sang live too.

Message for Ian Levine: Thanks for bringing us such fantastic music over the years. I'd love to hear 'Science Fiction' by Scott Stryker on the Nightmare Records label again. Is there a video you could upload please?
I'm confused. Someone posted a comment below, calling himself Huskymannia, saying he was Steven's partner, but he never mentioned Steven had died. What happened and when ?? Please do reply.
Hi Ian, sorry .. this is Huskymannia. Stephen passed tragically, and we all miss jhim very much. Would be nice not to have people mentioning the cause and reasons as we all wish to remember him at his best....

Hello George. How wonderful to hear from you.
But tragically, Steven committed suicide.
Obviously you didn't know. Neither did I till someone contacted me on here to tell me.
Ian.
No, I'm so sorry, this is the first I heard of it.
Why ??
What happened ??
How terrible.
Unfortunately Stephen commit suicide 6 year after we split. Very Tragic to a genuinely beautiful man - Alan (Stephen's partner of 7years)
