- The Renegade marks Jeep's foray into the emerging subcompact SUV segment. With optional 4-wheel drive and a 5-mode terrain management system, the Renegade stands apart from the crowd when it comes to off-road capability. But how does it perform in the real world?

I literally just want this car to drive to work 😂
That's all it's really good for. Is road driving
I work at Chrysler / Dodge / Jeep / Fiat dealer and these are our number one selling model. With the Dart and 200 being discontinued, the Renegade offers a new Jeep / SUV at entry level sedan pricing
So my Rubicon developed some electrical failure that no mechanic could define and repair. So, I traded it in for a Trailhawk. Yeah, it is underpowered, and the 9 speed transmission is not as responsive as I would like. BUT, it is a beast in the deep sand on Padre Island, and the highway mileage of 27mpg driving 78mph is pretty decent. Comfortable, and the crazy style grows on you. Can't wait it hit Wyoming next summer
Lee Bailey it does look relatively ugly, but the interior looks... "tactical" in a way I can't really describe...
Hello, we have had our Trail Hawk fully equipped for a little over a month, absolutely love it. Its fun, drives smooth does whatever we want and no problems at all.
How is it now ?
@@sschevmale24 or now
@@MrJtin69 bought just a regular renegade my wife loves it but I'm skeptical of Mopar lol. 30k on odometer just some flat tires
At first glance I thought it was ugly, but after watching it do off-roading it doesn't seem that bad...
Mac Dee It's an uglier version of the fiat 500x in my opinion.
+Leggo My Ego I think it's better version of it myself haha
+Mac Dee it does look ugly. Good value though and it grows on you in a weird way.

Suddenly it looks pretty when I saw Bruce Wayne driving it in Batman-V-Superman movie.

We got the 2017 Jeep Renegade, 6 Speed Manual. We love it! It was great all winter long. Maybe it was the stock tires but it didn’t handle as well as my 2004 Subaru Forester, but once I got my studs on I didn’t have lack of traction once. It took a few minutes longer than my old Subaru to warm up in cold weather too. But there are so many things we love about the Jeep, including all the hidden or not so hidden embellishments
great job from Jeep , off road suv with a low price . I think it will success with this vichle .
The "gimmicki embellishments" are awesome..
I think so too! Life's too short to drive boring cars.
76 st jep
I don't get why he's trashing them. Shows Jeep still has their sense of humor and pride.
Love my Renegade!
How was it after 3 years?
@@Saxie81 Must have exploded. Poor Autumn. RIP.
lol i just came here to see the harcore jeep wrangler fans talking shit about the new generation jeeps
FUCKING SAME!!
You can get the renegade trail hawk used at less than 20,000 it's pretty crazy
I love this car had it for about 2 weeks with the trailhawk model and it is a great car. No problems at all yet again I have never had any problems with all 6 jeeps I have had.
Is it wise to purchase a used Renegade? Or should the consumer and myself be more on the look out for updated 2017 renegade models?
Collin Ringelstetter-Ennis Get ready for this to be your first keep with problems because it is 90% fiat built so it will have problems soon enough
Beavey my ford has rust issues and its 4 years old , my cousins fiests is 5 years old and too has rust , shoul i blame the reliability? Fiat is built better and has better engines when u compare it to ford
Collin Ringelstetter-Ennis How is it with gas?
Collin Ringelstetter-Ennis ) has
My 2017 ren was great in snow this winter. No problems. Perfect for hauling stuff to Florida from Michigan.
In well less than 2 years I've had 4 major problems with this curse of a car. Here are the problems I've had in the order I got them in. 1) Ignition could 1 failure, causing my car to jump often, 2) major engine leakage causing my car to STOP in the middle of the road often, they put in a BRAND NEW engine. 3) Radiator fan issue, causing my car to over heat and getting my car towed. Issue 4) check engine light has come on, car has a torque issue and can barley drive. Keep in mind this car was purchased as a NEW car! It only has 53,000 miles on it. Don't buy this car from any dealership especially this one. If you do, I hope you remember these words and I hope you don't live in regret. I'm making payments on a car that is usually in the shop and paying for rental cars.
I’m experiencing the same problems , my car will literally stop in the middle of the traffic, I had to slide to the side of the road and restart it, crazy thing is my car only has 23000 km on it. I loved it when I first got it, but not sure how I feel now about the renegade.
Love the 70s inspired front
Love my Sport 4x4 6 speed manual model renegade. Haven’t gone off road with it yet. But I’m looking forward to going on a small dirt road out in the woods in Washington this summer.
My mom bought this car today.....women LOVE this car ......she paid
waaaaay waaaay too much for it in my opinion. Well done for the
designers .....they seemed to have done a great job in cracking the code
in drawing in the quirky emotive legacy of Jeep and messing with
nostalgic women's minds...throws all sensibility and rational thought
RIGHT OUT the window. I just could not reason with her to not buy
it.....she was a women ON AN IMPULSIVE MISSION.She is 60 and has no
clue what SAT NAV is or any of the tech features it has...."Oh that is
nice dear"......First thing she asks ..."Where is the handbrake ?????"
How do you know all women love this car? You need to work on your grammar.
I've just purchased this vehicle and I love it already 😍
So glad to hear that! 👌🏼
Just bought my 2018 Jeep renegade 2 weeks ago, brand spanking new....and so far love it
hey i have had mine for 7 months and really love it!
Jest bought a 17 renegade trailhawk. Great capabilities for such a small vehicle. I also have a 11 rubicon and both are GREAT in their own ways.
What kind of city MPG are you getting? It's the only thing making me hesitate to buy one (heard it's around 22 mpg!). But then I've been driving the same Toyota RAV since 1998 so anything will seem great to me!
I’m truly impressed by the production quality of this video 👏 👏 👏 👍🏻
I chose my Renegade over a comparable Wrangler, as a rural Canadian who has to do long highway pull and occasional innawoods shooting trips, largely because it’s so much nicer on the highway. The small size is quite nice on some of the back trails too. Very close to my old Samurai.
That said, it’s not for mudding at all, or anything similar. A Wrangler will do you better if you often hit deep mud. But if your local geography isn’t like that, I’d take the Renegade.
Can you go into 4wd, snow, sand and mud mode on the fly or do you have to be stationary?
It doesn't need to be stopped. You can change the controls for 4x4 and movement.@@toddgreen2138
Test drove one today along with a mazda c-5, and a Mazda 6 sedan. The jeep was the best ride on the freeway actually.
Looking for a good deal now.
I've always been a fan of the Jeep Patriot until they introduced the Renegade. I've been thinking about buying a Renegade. 😀❤
I bought one and I love it!
In the fall of 2017 I purchased a new 2017 Jeep Renegade from a dealer in Anchorage Alaska. I live in a remote Alaskan town with the closest mechanic over 100 miles away - in Canada. I made it clear to the dealer I needed a reliable, sturdy vehicle. The car was fine until the temperature dropped below 20F then it would start - and immediately stall with a noticeable smell of gas. I called the dealer and he recommended using Heet and blamed the bad gas in the town. Heet did nothing and no other car is having the same problem. The dealer is over 700 miles away and I can't have the car towed back. There's no one to work on it here and the dealer is unwilling to do anything more. The car is a princess car - it'll only run if it's warm and sunny. Which means i'm walking to work at 20 below. Moral is don't buy Jeep and don't buy a Jeep Renegade. As soon as possible I'm taking it to another town to trade it in for a Japanese or Korean car. Something reliable.
I have had this car for a month. 2015, 6 spd. I live in Gardner, MA, and drive up to Maine every weekend. Comfortable ride. Decent acceleration. Nothing to write home about. Handles good (so far) off road, but will see what happens when the winter hits. Definitely do not want to go too fast in this though. At times, I do feel like it will role when taking a hard turn. It's only been a month, but will see how things are after a year or so. Didn't realize Jeep was owned by Fiat. The look of the Renegade grew on me, and I do want to get a giant Philips everytime I look at the lights in the rear. LOL! All in all, no problems.............yet.
we spent a week in one of these in Death Valley and although it did well on the moderate trails, the seats became uncomfortable after a few hours and that transmission turned us to restore an XJ instead
Can you go into 4wd, snow, sand and mud mode on the fly or do you have to be stationary?
I love mine. I get compliments everywhere I go. Especially with the bright neon green paint job.
Just bought mine. 2017, 49k miles. Bright yellow. Love it so far but kindof scared after seeing some comments 😢
How has it been since you bought it?
Very comfortable commute vehicle with casual off road capabilities when you need them. Out the door cost of 16705 with taxes and title for the 4x4 Sport with Stick, AC, Power windows and cruise. Yes it is a great replacement for my old Sidekick. No, it is not a Wrangler and it is not intended to be, but a new Wrangler was at least 10k more.
I love my Renegade is worth the money and everything he was talking about came with mine and I paid 17 for it only thing I didn't have was heated seats
I do like the Renegade and will probably purchase a Trail Hawk model in the future. But I wouldn't mind if they offered the 3.2L V6 gas motor or the 3.0 Eco Diesel engine
My daughter owns one....her step into Jeep until she can afford the Jeep Wrangler.
@ lol a stock wrangler with manual trans & door locks, no a/c and roll up/down windows. Not comparable
Of course it does amazing off road cause you got the trailhawk
Reviewer failed to mention Renegade is made by Fiat overseas then imported to USA.
Fiat now owns Chrysler/Jeep but you probably already knew that.
The US [Engines] are built in the US.
www.allpar.com/SUVs/jeep/specifications/renegade.html
Nerm, please view the link you provided.
First thing it says is Renegade made at certain plant in Italy.www.allpar.com/SUVs/jeep/specifications/renegade.html
So it’s an Italian car, makes me want to buy it even more. Ferrari is own by fiat. Fiat owns Jeep. So it’s a Ferrari mini suv lol
How does fiat own so much? They don’t sell much in the US.
H.E. Miller so what if Fiat made it! it's a Jeep damn you guys need to get over that
I love mines I put at two inch lift on it and eibach lift springs on it added a rear skid plate and all-terrain tires and took it to moab. And ran trails just fine.
I just bought a Latitude, 4X4, 2017 with only 10K miles on the clock. So far, loving it!
I have Kia Soul, i want to upgraded to Jeep Renegade is that a good idea?
Yup. Theres more space for storage in the back.
@@VertexHero I have a small family so not so keen on storage, but i am talking about durability and gas consumption and stuff like that
yea i'd go with the renegade, i have it and it's amazing
I bought a 2017 manual. Its the color called advil like grey/ platinum. I dont have uconnect or blue tooth. I bought bluetooth at best buy. Wvwryone one said i would hate the stick car but it beings it down to 12. Cant beat that! I love mine!!!
If the Patriot is a sub-compact SUV, then I don't wanna know what's the regular size of a SUV
Maybe the Grand Cherokee or Wrangler
I like the looks more than the Compass. I am a boxy guy. Wish Jeep would lift it a bit more than the 1" on the Trailhawk.
How is it now 4 years later? lookin at buying the 2017 model now in 2023 with over 100K Kms on it ?
Thanks for making this video, and for the trails you took it on. I am considering buying one of these cars, but the bumper was looking a little low to me--seemed as if it might have a lot of trouble on rugged terrain. But your tests seem to show otherwise.
i have one as a rental and the only issue I have is the delay from the gas pedal when trying to pass, that lag is real. the other issue is the dead pedal position is too short for me and I'm 5"8, 5"9. its designed for a woman imo, no offense to the ladies. it's a good truck but to light in the behind from steering to pedal response. i drive a BMW Z3 daily and I miss my damn roadster. the renegade is cool though, you could live in it if you wanted to.
i like the renegade. my dream car is a 2017 jeep renegade in white OR yellow actually.
The white looks the best, by far.
And anvil gray/granite is a close second (the one in this video).
The 2016 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk SUV has a recurring
power seat problem that prevents the use of the 8-way and lumbar functions. The
problem causes the driver seat to freeze and lock into a position on the seat
floor tracks. This could create a serious
problem in the event of an emergency. The dealer service department is
clueless on fixing the problem.
After a software update over a year ago, it feels a bit less gutless than my former 2004 Mazda 3 standard transmission. Zero complaints 20 thousand miles later besides the overpriced labor price of a thermostat change ( or the fact they disable transmission control if there is an issue with the module). Overall, for a modern vehicle, this review holds strong.
I actually like it, I see people have such mixed feelings , too picky this car is sick! I've sat in one and it's very nice , very good alternative for that lame Kia soul. I hated that car , interior was horrible compared to this jeep . I may look into this after my scion tc . good starting family Suv it seems
definitely wanna get this one day. especially a trailhawk.
DJ Tecktock it looks good
I just got one and I own a Scion tC ♥️😂
Really wish my 2017 renegade had sunroofs like that...
My moms has them. You do not want them. They tend to break and not work and become pricey
It's definitely an interesting car!
Jkkj😨😩😢👺👹😢😢
I have a 2018 model and the interior looks different especially the dashboard
It's 2019. I'm considering buying a 2015 or 2016 model Renegade. Any owners of these vehicles have any comments, particularly in terms of durability and reliability?
Thoughts on getting this as my first car? (4x4 version)
+MrDoinstuff Your first car is gonna be ~28k? Damn lol
+TheAow4321 Maybe a first brand new car
X20c3ntX Even then. My first car was just over $20k, my next car will most likely be ~$30k. Unless hes older and has been riding a bike his whole life.
GET A PATRIOT OR COMPASS. This car not only makes you look idiotic for buying it but it's just a plain disgrace to Jeeps name and the roads.
+endocry its just outdated not garbage!
I want a Jeep renegade 🙏
Tis a fine auto in Ireland
I have this car only in white and black tho love it
I am a little worry about the rear seats area and cargo space... It is kind of tight... Over all, I like it...
rented one once, definitely could use a bit more power and a bit more of a lift like the daystar one for sale bit it rocked the trails and was way more fun than any wrangler I have driven off road. not that the wrangler is bad, it just seemed bored.
Had a chance to rent a Renegade while on a trip out west... the 160 speedometer made me laugh out loud.
did....did u just pinch that car at 0:14? Anyway, i am still torn between the compass and this one.
Don't get a jeep
+bendsomemetal Ford as a everyday car
I bought the 2017 Cherokee Trailhawk eventually. It is a pretty good car but very bad on gas.
I want a new renegade so bad,but my buddy says wait until next year when they come out with the Male version 😥 the more I look at this thing the more I think yea that looks badass, until of course i get to the tail lights. Jeep seriously needs to redisgn the tsilights
I see now why my mom wants one
The style grew on me a lot. I do wish they dropped the grill ever so slightly, just so it wasn't completely aligned with the headlights.
20:1 is NOT a crawl ratio. It's first gear. This box on wheels does not have low range. Instead, you get the chance to burn up your torque converter trying to "off road" this pile.
Very sweet car
just bought one the other day... 2017 4x4 with 30k miles for 17k
@D D no complaints runs well. Hope yours runs well for u
KRUGE67 The Liberty was phased out to make room for the new Cherokee. You can check out our Cherokee review here: ruclips.net/video/LOqkGukFVj8/видео.html
***** This is the Anza Borrego Desert in Southern California.
Does "hardcore" refer to the music choice you were playing while driving off road? I like the renegade but unless your idea of hardcore is anything with a few inches of water and a few rocks a "hardcore" trail machine this is not. Seems like a fun little runabout that will reduce some stress on fireroads though.
nice suv,but what happened to the liberty ??
+KRUGE67 it got replaced by the cherokee
the compass replaced the Patriot
Would you recommend the Renegade as a college vehicle ?
it's something cheap but I would put research before you buy but I want this to be my first car!
love this vehicle
Looks good
wait, the FRONT passenger seat folds flat? Why didnt you show this in the video that would be AWESOME
I have that car i love it
Is it wise to purchase a used Renegade? Or should the consumer and myself be more on the look out for updated 2017 renegade models?
Love this
Went and looked at them yesterday. Trailhawk is alot better looking. The other trim models looked like cars.
Trailhawk is twice as expensive
Whats annoying is that the Trailhawk version likely won't make up more than 10% of sales, yet there are no reviews of the regular FWD version with the 1.4 liter turbo that 90% of buyers will probably end up with! >:|
The mpg is all in the foot work i got a 18 2.4 4x4 getting about 28 average
Looks like a more fuel efficient and remodeled 2002 - 2007 Jeep liberty which is nice or a GMC Tracker. I miss my old Liberty but hated the Gas Millage at 17 mpg. If I can get close to 25mpg out of the Rengade its almost the same mpg as a car. Not to sure about Fiat building the Renegade thought...possible reliability problems.
Kind of a nice little all-rounder, if a bit on the cutesy side. But I can't get past the fact that it's basically a Fiat...I think a Fiat 500L to be exact, but I could be wrong about that. Also, the $30K+ price for higher levels is a little iffy. I think I'm gonna go with a mid-trim Wrangler instead.
Love my TrailHawk!!!!
I’m not gonna lie I hated it but my sister got one and we took it off road and it was supper fun 😂
best compact suv for off road low mpg high power
The renegade along with the grand Cherokee are the best looking jeeps of all the models
Compass
Seems like a good alternative to a Honda Element. Right?
I want one.
When can we expect this beast to be on india ??
Took me awhile to get used to reverse when you have stick shift. It reminds me of the liberty that i had before. I love the color avril/ or platinum. I got it cheaper by not getting u connect or blue tooth. Went to best buy got the holder for my phone to use that for navigation or calls and blue tooth can be purchased. When u have a stick u need to pay attention to the gears not someone texting you when you have a samsung phone. Only complaint and this will pass....reversing. you have the r on the left side and you have to have the far right pedal down. On the stick shift you have to pull up this rubber thing right under neath the shift at the same time. Over all...of you want to save money and walk out paying 12 make some arraignments. Love it!!!!
I have a 2016 jeep renegade dawn of justice edition. I have nothing but problems and it’s broke and in the shop more than I can drive it with only 30,000 miles!
Can you go into 4wd, snow, sand and mud mode on the fly or do you have to be stationary?
For 30 grand you can buy a mid level Outback with more size, better fuel economy, as much if not more offroad capability, and better reliability. Not to mention, the Outbacks updated interior is much nicer than anything in a jeep barring upper trim model Cherokees. My uncle bought one of these a couple years ago and it has spent a lot of time in the shop, like everything else FCA makes these days, you're much better off buying a Subaru or literally anything else.
Oh no, the Subaru awd drive is only for light task any thing other than snow and mud, will send your Subaru to the grave, they are well rounded vehicles and they might be nicer inside, but you make your Subaru fall apart if you took it anything that's other than mud or snow
This isn't a rock crawler from the factory, and it falls apart looking at a mall parking lot lol. The Renegade has the exact same ground clearance as any Subaru, so let's not pretend it's some how more hardcore than any Forester/Crosstrek/Outback.
I don’t get why they didn’t just make a mini wrangler 😥
96 Suzuki Sidekick
absolutely
lcar4000 yep
I'm having a hard time finding parts for my SX4
in the 1990's it seemed like ford bronco 2 was everywhere, where did they all go
Hey folks, if you don't like a classic style car, go watch reviews of some modern looking cars. No body is forcing you to buy this vehicle. STOP leaving negative comments. STOP trolling.
I like the Sasquatch hahaha
Crosstrek wheels!
I have Jeep patriot 2016 should I switch to this one or not?
someone help me get this car!
What are it's dimensions??
Is 119 k miles okay to buy for a first car it’s a Rene sport
