    One of the best reviews I've seen on YT. Minimal chitchat; emphasis on specs and characteristics. Also the test-drive with focus on the car, and not on the driver/presentor; which is quite exceptional considering other YT-reviews of this model. Thumbs up.

    • @BoopSnoot
      @BoopSnoot 6 лет назад

      Needs more emphasis on reliability though, because it turns out the renegade is one of the least reliable cars you can buy. I really wanted one, but after reading the non-stop problems on the forum, I'm glad I passed.

    • @james2042
      @james2042 6 лет назад +5

      @@BoopSnoot forms are very hit miss. You would need to look at the amount sold vs the amount of people complaining. If you saw 50 people complaining and they sold 50,000, thats a .1% failure rate by that logic. I am sure its higher but reliability is blown way out of proportion on forms 9.9/10 times (f-150's with ecoboost excluded).

    I am not going to lie, my spouse kept suggesting this car and I was like mmm nope. Then I said let me give it a chance, and this is by far the best review I have seen. He removed the sunroof and that was a high point seller for me. We are currently looking at the 2018 Jeep Renegade and I am support excited to move forward with our in the next coming weeks. :)

    Best review of the Renegade, and a great explanation of the 9 speed auto. I just bought a 2018 Trailhawk loaded with everything except the sun roof used with just 1633 miles for 24K. I am so pleased with that deal! Great job, Alex!

    This guy can talk like nobody's business! An excellent, on point review, no fluff, just the facts, and a lot of them! I've seen a bazillion auto reviews in the last year
    on RUclips, and I think this guy is the best. Maybe not the "funniest", the "SavageGoose" wins that contest, but if your looking for a "meat and potatoes" review, this is
    your guy!
    On a personal note, I bought a used 2016 75th anniversary Renegade last summer with 69K on the odometer. Kind of took a leap of faith, as I've always been a "Toyota" guy, but
    I wanted something with a "fun factor", reliability be damned.
    Not surprisingly, the Renegade has provided some minor "challenges" so far, but overall once I ironed out some of the "kinks" in the first three months(certified used, and that came in handy) mechanically it's performed pretty well.
    It starts up every morning, and that's half the battle, isn't it? I enjoy the MySky roof, even though that has posed an issue from time to time when it thinks the track has an obstruction and refuses to close up completely! Shot it with some lithium grease and that surprisingly took care of the problem.
    Apparently, many Jeep aficionados absolutely hate how the Renegade looks and despise it because it's not a "Wrangler". I, on the other hand, love how it looks ( I love boxy shapes) and couldn't give a rat's ass that it isn't a "Wrangler", so take that, Wrangler fan boys! I've got the 6 speed manual (I think I found the last one on earth), love how compact it is, and I like the commanding high position the Renegade provides compared to smaller crossovers in this segment. It's not the most "refined" ride out there if that's what you're looking for, it feels more like a "truck", but the damn thing is fun!

    I have a 2016 Renegade Limited and I absolutely love it. Not a race car but peppy and off road capable even without the trailhawk package. Obviously it's not a Rubicon so it isn't intended for hardcore offroading.

    I got a 16” Jeep Renegade 1.4 T 4x4. With 18” wheels it drives very good and has really good off road capabilities. Plus is compact but spacious at the same time, perfect for who live in urban areas, however twisty roads and off road trails are fun. Mpg is not bad either, I average 26 mpg. I definitely like it.

    This is how you do a car review & road test. Almost half an hour, and nothing felt like superfluous "filler". Great job. Also, from what I see I really like this little Jeep. I love taking my kids camping or taking the dogs to the beach or mountain (with plenty of gravel road travel), but I also need something smallish and economical as a daily commuter. And this boxy Jeep styling appeals to me. Problem is these cars get so pricy once they come to South Africa.

    Thank you for your excellent review of the Jeep Renegade. You do an awesome job of presentation of the cars features. My wife and I have a 2016 Limited . We do some off road adventures here in Arizona up in the Bradshaw Mountains. We have found the Renegade to be a good everyday driver and very capable for moderate off road utilization. We are both in our 70s and retired but active the Renegade really has served us well. If I have any dissatisfaction it is in the factory tires , just not durable. Typical of most factory issue tires. We plan on upgrading when it’s time to retire this set when it’s time to retire them . Our Renegade has all the features but the removal roof panels. We took the Jeep to the DeSota Mine trail and it stayed right up to the Wranglers .

    i've owned by blkRene Limited for about 3 months. took awhile to get used to transmission. but once i did i like it.hard to keep this puppy under 90 on texas hwys. airtight, the uConnect makes this sucker great.aslo allows to adjust the standard audio system to get pretty close to a high quality sound. 21 mpg sucks but had aK& E air filter put inoa milage getting better but got better exceleration. i likey
    But this lilRene is the most fun, best built car i've ever owned. excellent design and solid. my only complaint is the hand grip to close the "liftGate" it feels cheap & one good slam ek!!! but man its fun as hell to drive. my wife loves the heated leather seats. me i love the sound of the mufflers. my limited 2.4l was made in Melfi italy, they must be proud of their work. seamless

    Isn’t the 2ltr diesel Trailhawk available in the states? It’s good for 168bhp and averages 38mpg combined. The motor is very torquey, giving a 0-60 time of 8.9 secs and decent towing capacity. I love this car. Really enjoyed the review. Very comprehensive and informative. I’d like to see a side by side comparison of the 2.4ltr tiger shark engine against the 2ltr diesel. Keep ‘em coming.

    Great review as usual Alex. We've owned our Renegade Limited for half a year now and 7500 miles now and we still love it. Your review is accurate, it's not fast but peppy, comfortable, cute and surprising practical for our small family. Although, I think it may handle better than you give it credit for but I guess you are comparing it to other vehicles that are basically cars with slightly higher ground clearance and roof heights. Keep up the good work.

    Hey, can you make up a "crosswind rating"? I only ask because a lot of us don't get a chance to find out until we've already purchased a car and your reviews are so detailed. Would be nice to know how a vehicle will handle going around a Semi or in a strong crosswind.

    So recently I rented a FWD Jeep renegade. I'm sad to report that the driving dynamics are very bad. The ford escape was so better when compared to this. I can even tolerate the transmission and engine throttle response. However, the vehicle did not feel surefooted in highway speeds, steering feel was non-existent, there was a wobbly sensation, had to correct the steering a lot to stay within the lane lines. The interior was good. And it doesn't help that my daily driver is a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta wagon and I constantly kept comparing how nimble and surefooted that vehicle felt when compared to this.

    Great catch on the extra 4" in width - that significantly shifts my research. Because the Renegade looks so tall and stubby, I figured it was on the narrow side as well. Now my eyes are opened! Any thoughts on the Renegade Sport vs. the all-new Compass Sport? Looks like the Compass is only 10 inches longer; gains a back-up cam in the low-end Sport Trim; loses the 1.4 Turbo (I'd rather have the Turbo at altitude) but gains a MT option with the 2.4L. Plus rear aircon vents, good for my kids. Anything I'm missing?

    In the fall of 2017 I purchased a new 2017 Jeep Renegade from a dealer in Anchorage Alaska. I live in a remote Alaskan town with the closest mechanic over 100 miles away - in Canada. I made it clear to the dealer I needed a reliable, sturdy vehicle. The car was fine until the temperature dropped below 20F then it would start - and immediately stall with a noticeable smell of gas. I called the dealer and he recommended using Heet and blamed the bad gas in the town. Heet did nothing and no other car is having the same problem. The dealer is over 700 miles away and I can't have the car towed back. There's no one to work on it here and the dealer is unwilling to do anything more. The car is a princess car - it'll only run if it's warm and sunny. Which means i'm walking to work at 20 below. Moral is don't buy Jeep and don't buy a Jeep Renegade. As soon as possible I'm taking it to another town to trade it in for a Japanese or Korean car. Something reliable.

    I have a 2016 Jeep Renegade Latitude, 2.4l and I love it. He is correct - the head room clearance is great!

    I was thinking about ditching my Chevy Cruz and getting a Jeep Renegade. I'm looking at an Automatic Sport, 4X4 with My sky. But I never owned a FIAT and I heard really nasty things about FIAT reliability and my Chevy Cruz has very poor reliability and I don't want to jump from the frying pan into the fire. Has FIAT changed their tune? Is the Renegade the exemption to the rule?

    Hey Alex, great review! I just have a quick question: how do you measure the range of motion on a tilt/telescoping steering wheel? I notice most of your reviews describe it as "large" or "decent", but it all kind of looks the same on camera. Do you have a way of measuring it? Or is it subjective based on the car/class that the car is in? Just wondering, thanks! Keep up the great work!

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  8 лет назад +1

      It's subjective. I usually just check to see that the "middle" of the range is comfortable for me. If it is, then it should be OK for taller or shorter folks. If I'm at one end of the motion then it's not going to be able to accommodate people of different dimensions.

    • @gmante11
      @gmante11 8 лет назад +1

      Thanks for answering! It's great that you take driving position and the steering wheel travel in that consideration.

    Great job Alex on the review. I just got a Latitude trim 1.4L 6-speed manual FWD. I wanted the 4WD version but they are VERY hard to find with a manual and to be honest I don't off-road enough to justify the extra cost. I'm really enjoying the car. I think the FWD version, especially being a little lower seems to have a firmer ride. I like this as it's got pointy steering, a short wheel base and feels very nimble, especially for being so tall. If have a min to reply... My sales guy said that there is no break in on new cars now. Is this the case. For now I'm taking it gentle on the little engine. He also said it doesn't require premium even though it's a turbo. Is my sales guy nuts? Do I need to break it in and should I put premium in it? Thanks!

      @@TheRenaissanceAmazon I don't have this car anymore but I enjoyed it while I had it. I drive an EV now. I stuck to my guns that I wouldn't give up driving a manual unless it was for an EV. I miss driving a stick sometimes.
      I can't speak for how well the renegade will hold up 6 years on, but it seemed reasonably solid while I had it. Cheers.

    Hi Alex! I have really enjoyed your videos for a while now, but am getting a bit confused as I wait for new reviews; you have not covered any Mitsubishi products. Why?
    I have recently stumbled my way into owning an 2014 Outlander Sport (RVR here in Canada) and a 2016 Outlander GT (both have a lockable drive train). The Sport was the cheapest AWD SUV at the time we bought it (our winters are brutal) and, according to my testing of top safety rated SUV's, the Outlander GT outperformed the rest of the competition in virtually every category in my opinion (much to my surprise). I'm getting confused; why have you not covered any Mitsubishi's?

    • @kc5077
      @kc5077 8 лет назад

      It depends on the manufacturer making test cars available to the journalists and associations, I think Alex said a while back that he currently doesn't have access to Mitsubishis. The best way we can help Alex get access to more cars is by subscribing, liking, and commenting on his channel to show how popular he is. I noticed Mitsubishi is trying something different by sending cars to non-automotive youtubers.

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  8 лет назад +3

      I have access, however they have been honestly low priority for me since the sales volume is so low. If I have the choice about what cars to review, I genberally try to review cars that more folks are shopping for.

    • @kc5077
      @kc5077 8 лет назад

      I'm glad you like your Mitsubishis! I used to sell Mitsubishi and despite being very capable and reliable they have very little brand recognition in the US. The new Outlander's look is a great improvement. Which engine do you have in your RVR?

    • @MrJLizzy
      @MrJLizzy 8 лет назад

      +Alex on Autos Thank you so much for getting back to me! I really appreciate it Alex.
      Your approach makes sense. I would do the same thing. Perhaps then, as a sort of compromise, you could mention the Mitsubishi products in your list of comparable a instead of strictly reviewing them? I'm sure it wouldn't take much investment on your behalf for you to get familiar enough with the brand (if you already aren't) to make quick comments about their vehicles in your other videos. Although, perhaps in order to keep your comparables to a reasonable side, you have to cut some vehicles...

    • @mikeholland2346
      @mikeholland2346 8 лет назад

      Why they have very little brand recognition in the US? Many years back they where also unknown of in Europe but that changed quickly. The people discovered the high build quality especially compared to the poor quality of French Italian and British cars so quality sells itself... or not??

    The Renegade has no available "2 speed transfer case"....Matter of fact, it has no transfer case at all, as it is AWD. It does have a tansaxle, and a viscous center coupling...Great review but that is one significant piece of information that is incorrect...

    • @curriefamilytruckingllc6916
      @curriefamilytruckingllc6916 8 лет назад +2

      The Trailhawk is the only trim with an available "Low" range which is achieved by a 4.71 first gear and a 4.33 final drive gear... (no transfer case so this ratio is just multiplied by 1)
