A window seal on my passenger door started to leak in air and whistle and that had to be replaced and my radiator fan was getting noisy and had to be replaced. every one of these issues was covered by the warranty and was only a minor inconvenience. Ongoing issues I have are minor like the oil burn and the somewhat klunky transmission. I have just started to notice and odd thump coming from the wheel well and I think that may be cv shaft but I do go offroading and have taken some hard hits so I dont blame the jeep if it is starting to have issues. I just hope it is not too expensive to replace.
There is a firmware update for the ECM that helps with oil burn and clunky trans. Call your dealer and check to see if there are any updates available for your VIN. Also at 80k miles it’s a good idea to go ahead and replace the ignition coils and spark plugs. Around this time you’ll notice a marked reduction in fuel economy and then you’ll eventually lead to a misfire and CEL. You can replace coils and plugs for about $150 from NAPA or your local parts store.

I have a renegade and I love it for the most part. Not the story behind why I have it and pay for it, but it’s a nice car. I have the 2015 Renegade. The only issue I have is the gas cap service light engine issue and that can be easily fixed from what I’ve heard.
i had one, a 2016 no dealership couldn't pick it up without cracking the plastic under the doors. the thermostat and driver door lock mech went bad. it burned a lot of oil and now it is a class action lawsuit. causes early engine wear. the lag when you hit the gas after coasting a little is down right dangerous. i almost got into an accident or two and was one of the main reason after three years i traded it in with 40k miles, you would hit the pedal...nothing, would have to floor it to get it to react.
@@Natethegreat200c no. It's a problem with the traction control as well. Because if you accelerate while your wheel is turned (such as when you make a hard fight or left) it trips the traction control sensor and bleeds your power. Not a lot of fun when you are trying to turn into a busy street.

I had 78k miles on the 2.4l and mine decided to catch fire out of nowhere. There has never been any other issues before that point. Engine was running great before this incident.
Only issue I've had is the sway bar links. Made of Italian cheese! I've had none of the issues mentioned in this video. 2016 Trailhawk. Diesel of course, no coil packs :p
I always thought the radio was rebooting or maybe a low voltage on start up. I experienced the OTA update which turned everything into Italian😅. I noticed the door material comes off easily in this hot weather. Also use to get errors like thermostat bad but the original code that ce up has banished but showed air intake temp was bad. Has never showed up again. Despite the therm being bad, apparently, 70,000 miles later still going and never overheated
Thank you. How about the rpm suddenly stays at high value when you slow down and takes some time to let you able run proper. Stepping the gas does nothing, just rpm goes up. Looks like the automatic transmission does not move to lower gear when needed. Can you advice? It only got 25K in the clock.
My 2018 Renegade is getting that P2122 code, that refers to the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). Apparently it is common these cars and is a pain to pinpoint and fix the issue.
Re: oil consumption. My 2015 Renegade: I went to the dealer and they reprogrammed the 2.4 liter engine computer. No more 1 quart per 1000 miles. How did that stop the usage? Very interesting.
I bought a 2016 trail hawk in 2018 with 17K miles had a lot of problems that was covered under warranty: A/C, radiator fan 2X, radiator leak (leaked in warranty) I found after replacing fan out of warranty! power seat, wiper fluid hose issue, & now at 77K miles the only issue is the door panel & headliner fabric is separating! Due to low quality of adhesive Jeep uses & high humidity where I live! Voice recognition leaves a lot to be desired! Will I buy another..????
They lost a class action lawsuit over the oil consumption issue. They will extend the powertrain warranty, recalibrate the idle and trans shifting points through software updates. if that doesn't work, they'll replace the long block. A tremendous job, that the vehicle will probably never be the same.
I have what seems like an automatic transmission problem with the 2015 Jeep renegade I just purchased. When I start moving, it seems to have some sort of hesitation when switching from 1st to 2nd and sometimes 3rd gear. Is this a trans issue? Someone online said it is a common issue and can actually be fixed with a simple computer update by Jeep. someone else said it might be the spark plugs. Any ideas?
My 2015 had the same issue. They did a update on it and it worked for a week but the slipping of gears started again. Luckily we still have warranty on the transmission. We took it in and they replaced the trans valve and so far everything looks good now.
My wife's 2016 is awful. It only has 80,000. I've spent over $2000 in AC repairs. Since day one it never shifts correctly, leaky door seals, over heated on two different occasions, and burns a quart of oil every 1200 miles. So many other little things I don't have time to list.
I have a 2016 Renegade, 2.4 cylinder. transmission vibration when car running on steady speed. For example, when car running about 50 miles per hour, transmission always on gear 8, so as you step on gas the transmission starts to vibration. In this case I have to use manual to drop a gear to 7. At gear 7 car is running smoothly. Push back to auto transmission, gear go up to 8 again. Dealer refused to fix this problem because no wrong code from car computer.
I have 2 2021 Renegades with the 1.3 turbo engines. We live in Texas, and everything is 75 and cruise control (both have adaptive cruise). They will not go into 8th or 9th gear going downhill with a 40mph tail wind. Have had TCM and PCM updates. You are the pros... Any ideas? 2 Dealers say this is common and deal with it.
Yes. Once the temps hit cold in late fall it goes on and off. The engine isn't heating up fast enough. No kidding, it is 23 outside. Since weather went to 50s the light went off. I suspect the air temp intake sensor. When my issue began the code read it was air intake, then the 28 code constantly came on. Fog light housing melt after a few years. Weird light surging.
man, I was hoping it would say they have issues with the lights. My fog lights and other lights keep shorting out and the dealer wants a lot of money to check for electrical issues. I've replaced one headlight wireharness myself but not sure why the fog lights keep blowing.
I got 2016, bought with 16,000 mi. Now 42,000 mi. Luckily all the problems happened under warranty,: radiator fan, A/C, windshield washer hose, driver's seat control & door handle came off. Had a temporary loss of engine power once, 1 minor issue is I can't leave the back wiper on rain sensing mode. Will I buy another...? We'll see how it holds up!
@@pingpongballz5998 yep & I needed to replace the dealership installed radiator fan recently as they only had a 2 year warranty & now I see multiple seepage of coolant on radiator the dealership missed! I'm I buying another Renegade? NO!

Hi my stepdaughter owns a 2015 Jeep renegade that she purchased two years ago , and the problem she's having is there is a service four-wheel-drive indicator light that comes on , and when you try the traction selector switch or traction control switch for different various road conditions seems to be not working ? When you try to select four-wheel-drive low or four-wheel-drive itself nothing happens , I tried going online to find out on how to replace the switch which there is no information on how the remove it from dashboard or console or even how the diagnose the problem ? But I believe it's the switch that will not engage the solenoid on the transmission or the transfer case to put it in four-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive low , so my question did you ever run into this problem ? And if so how do you replace the traction control transfer switch ? Like I said there is nothing online and there's no diagrams to even be found online to show this it's almost like they are going to force you to take this to the dealer and do not want you to repair itself even if one does have the knowledge and is mechanically inclined such as myself so if you could help me I greatly appreciate thank you or anyone
The radio display on mine is constantly switching over to European units. Also the AC stopped working in my 2016 1.4L. I think that's about the only problems I've have with mine
I have a 2018 2.4 that won't start after refueling. I replaced the canister purge valve and it helped for a month (6-8 fill ups) but the issue is back. Usually takes 3-5 tries to finally get it started, it will idle rough for a minute and then drive like normal. Anyone else experienced this?

Get it have a 2015 renegade trailhawk with over 77k miles on it and I love it. The transmission is not a serious issue trust me u get used to it
I have a renegade and I love it for the most part. Not the story behind why I have it and pay for it, but it’s a nice car. I have the 2015 Renegade. The only issue I have is the gas cap service light engine issue and that can be easily fixed from what I’ve heard.
i know this was months ago but what model / series is your renegade ? i thought all renegades didn't have gas caps thats the only reason i asked.
My 2021 at 11 months old with 970 miles blew the fuel pump relay fuse. They had to locate a new relay. They installed it. It's been ok.
i had one, a 2016 no dealership couldn't pick it up without cracking the plastic under the doors. the thermostat and driver door lock mech went bad. it burned a lot of oil and now it is a class action lawsuit. causes early engine wear. the lag when you hit the gas after coasting a little is down right dangerous. i almost got into an accident or two and was one of the main reason after three years i traded it in with 40k miles, you would hit the pedal...nothing, would have to floor it to get it to react.
It’s called laggy transmissions. Toyota’s are like that Honda and more.
@@Natethegreat200c no. It's a problem with the traction control as well. Because if you accelerate while your wheel is turned (such as when you make a hard fight or left) it trips the traction control sensor and bleeds your power. Not a lot of fun when you are trying to turn into a busy street.
I love my Fiat Jeep 2021! I believe people who Browbeat there cars have Problems with every car! Treat it nice! “”Lol””this car is so solid & is Extremely smooth on the roads & highways…nice heavy, quiet,Smooth riding car with comfortable seats…Many great colors to choose, lots of room for such a tiny little Square bug!
I had 78k miles on the 2.4l and mine decided to catch fire out of nowhere. There has never been any other issues before that point. Engine was running great before this incident.
My dad actually has one its a 2016 sport 1.4t and ive driven it in the canyons its a fun car once it gets into boost
Only issue I've had is the sway bar links. Made of Italian cheese! I've had none of the issues mentioned in this video. 2016 Trailhawk. Diesel of course, no coil packs :p
Bahahaha
@@ianfrost9118 What's that? You're a sheep? I don't understand.
2015 trail hawk with 133k on it never had a coil issues, no hose issue does eat oil from
Time to time, and might have that cv joint noise on passenger
I always thought the radio was rebooting or maybe a low voltage on start up. I experienced the OTA update which turned everything into Italian😅.
I noticed the door material comes off easily in this hot weather. Also use to get errors like thermostat bad but the original code that ce up has banished but showed air intake temp was bad. Has never showed up again. Despite the therm being bad, apparently, 70,000 miles later still going and never overheated
Don't forget the engine cooling fan recall :)
I go through over two quarts between oil changes. And the shocks are just awful on this vehicle, I've replaced them twice.
Other than wearing thru front tires relatively quickly, no issues.
2015 with 93,000 miles here
I had a 2018 TrailHawk and 4000 miles in 5th started slipping bad… traded it in for a Wrangler.
I have replaced the bottom motor mount on my 2016, it was making a loud clunk when I put it in gear.
Can you do a video on how to replace the coil pack connectors? Mine broke today.
You forgot BAD MOTOR MOUNTS AND BAD RADIATOR FAN ... they give out all the time ... I work at a shop, it’s common issue
+Fernando Estrada Thanks for the feedback!
@@1AAuto That's only true for the 2015's & early 2016's...both issues were fixed by Jeep with updated parts. Fan issues were recalled.
Seem like minor problems that can be fix by any diy person. Nice
Thanks for you tips. Good day guy.
Don’t forget the fuel pump issue makes it stall and even disable it there is a recall on the fuel pump
2021 renegade. where is the the oil dip stick ?? is it a turbo or NOT ..... help
I have that cv joint issue ya think that's covered in the powertrain warranty
They lost a class action lawsuit over the oil consumption issue. They will extend the powertrain warranty, recalibrate the idle and trans shifting points through software updates. if that doesn't work, they'll replace the long block. A tremendous job, that the vehicle will probably never be the same.
Switch to 30w oil, that should solve the oil consumption issue. 20w and low tension piston rings are a lame attempt at increasing gas mileage.
You didn't cover the transmission?
How about the 2017 model?
Same thing its the first Generation.

This is going to be my first car
Does this thing have an oil temp sensor and if it does, where is it located? I'm getting zero readings on the dash.
My wife's 2016 is awful. It only has 80,000. I've spent over $2000 in AC repairs.
Since day one it never shifts correctly, leaky door seals, over heated on two different occasions, and burns a quart of oil every 1200 miles. So many other little things I don't have time to list.
Started using amsoil, and it stopped consuming oil.
If you are going down hill, with a tail wind, you should be in a lower gear for engine braking. Thats the reason why it won't shift to 8 or 9th.
What about the thermostat that is the #1 issue I see as a jeep tech with the 2.4L engines.
That and the BS little motor mounts Jeep used the first 2 years of this car.
How do you fix this issue I have the same problem
man, I was hoping it would say they have issues with the lights. My fog lights and other lights keep shorting out and the dealer wants a lot of money to check for electrical issues. I've replaced one headlight wireharness myself but not sure why the fog lights keep blowing.
You forgot to mention the transmission failure. Etc etc etc....
Because jts not true. Stop listening to Scotty.
Oh yeah. Shift it into 9th and put it on cruise control. See what happens
Drive a manual, have no problems.
@@jeffb8562 I do it all the time - what happens?
I just bought a 2018 Jeep Renegade. Can I put it into 4wd or snow, sand, mud mode while driving or do I have to be stationary?
The big problem i had was excessive oil burning
I got 2016, bought with 16,000 mi. Now 42,000 mi. Luckily all the problems happened under warranty,: radiator fan, A/C, windshield washer hose, driver's seat control & door handle came off. Had a temporary loss of engine power once, 1 minor issue is I can't leave the back wiper on rain sensing mode. Will I buy another...? We'll see how it holds up!
That's quite a bit lol
@@pingpongballz5998 yep & I needed to replace the dealership installed radiator fan recently as they only had a 2 year warranty & now I see multiple seepage of coolant on radiator the dealership missed! I'm I buying another Renegade? NO!
WOW. I was considering one of these as I’m looking to upgrade from an 04 Ford Taurus to something with 4x4. I bought my Taurus with 83,000 miles, now it has 127,000. I haven’t had nearly as many issues with it as this 5 year old Jeep has. I guess it is true… Just Empty Every Pocket 💀😂
The only problems I HAVEN'T had are the ones mentioned. I've had tons of others though. This is by far the worst car I've owned in 20 years of driving

How about the volume going up and down when accelerating and braking? It’s weird 😂😂😂
you can fix that in the settings!! it’s a speed setting on your radio. just gotta turn it off.
Tx a lot mate!
My 2018 renegade uses a quart every 1000 miles it has 61000 on it its been that way since I bought it. So except for the filter it gets 2 oil changes every 5000 miles😅
My 2016 jeep Renegade has had 4 recalls to repair issues...I had to have the engine replaced
there is a recall on oil consumption for those with troubles
+Cercle De Feu Thanks for the feedback!
My fiancé has an issue with his which is vibrating when in drive and someone tried to steal gas from his and now the capless mechanism is broken off of it.
What about the heat turning on and never turning off it won’t turn off at all!
Actually there was a recall for the oil issue. It’s a computer mod upgrade. Oil issues no more!
+The Ghost American patriot Thanks for the feedback!
Any problems with front end noise....Noise from bumps........JB.
I have a jerking problem I bought it brand new 2021 and it just started doing these jerking movements but there's nothing blinking idk what to do?
The radio display on mine is constantly switching over to European units. Also the AC stopped working in my 2016 1.4L. I think that's about the only problems I've have with mine
I have so many problems with my renegade. And it’s a 2021. It sucks
I did the radio update myself. Download to flash drive, upload to radio. Radiator fan was covered under warranty and no other problems.
SMH why would radio need update?
@@luimobilefixes5279 why not? It's a media player, bluetooth, navigation unit.
The biggest problem is that the renegade is a fiat 700,
No it’s not
You mean it shares technology with the Fiat 500X / L ? Yes, quite a bit. It's not a FIAT, just like the FIAT is not a JEEP.

1) It's made by Fiat Chrysler.
