I bought a 2018 Renagade in January 2022. Two weeks later I went on a 400 mile trip with no problem. In May my daughter and I went on a 800 mile trip and after 650 miles the engine decelerated and then cut off. This happened 5 times, but would start again. We found a motel and stayed over night. After watching this video I came to the conclusion that the jeep was low of oil. We bought more oil the following morning. We didn't have any more problems. I have never had that problem with any other vehicle. I checked it before leaving and it full. The oil consumption is very high in this Jeep.

This is what people get when they purchase a fiat or kia. Poor quality control and cheap manufacturing.

I have a Jeep Renagade 2017 and got a recall notice in the mail 3 months after acquiring the Jeep used. The recall was a 15 minute software update that a dealer had to do to the computer system for the engine. The recall update fixed a known problem that caused oil consumption to be much higher than normal while driving on the highway. If you have not had this recall fixed I would recommend contacting a Jeep dealership.

@@nigerbear2642 "this is what ppl get?" First off we don't have all the details in this story. Did she buy it new or used... USED, RIGHT?
Did she change the oil regularly etc.....the vehicle alerts you when you need oil. If you buy a used car the first thing should do is get the oil changed!!!
The person says that is what she thinks was wrong...sounds like a guess.
I bought my renegade in 2019 BRAND NEW in Ohio drove to Orlando fl and back to Ohio no issues it is now almost 2023 I still have it, 66,000 miles later, I had regularly maintained my vehicle no issues mechanically yet. Not discounting this persons experience but just pointing out the devil is in the details.
My mother had two Toyotas growing up, a Celica and a Carolla....both gave her a hard time. She hated those cars. Toyota is supposed to be excellent problem free vehicles right??? Some legends are not always true for you.

@@shaunlugton9233 Do you have a link to this by chance? I'm having the same issue with a 2018 I bought used. I don't believe the update was ever done. I want something in writing to take to the dealer to force them to do the update.

Mopar sent me a letter about updating the ECU software, at a dealer, at no charge. I took advantage of the offer and my 2015 Renegade oil consumption stopped. It's still good practice to check the oil every 1000 miles.

  • @don2deliver

Didn't have any of those issues. But A/C compressor blew out the side of the housing(fixed under warranty). Radiator leaked(fixed under warranty) but dealer missed that the low speed fan resistor had popped, perhaps contributing to the radiator early demise.

The start button not working is easily fixed by pressing the start button with the key. Placing the key close to the button seems to reset the system and it should work fine after this fix.

I loved my renegade BUT it’s only 7 yrs old and had a ton of issues that no mechanic can pinpoint. They seem to be eletrical.. cruise control stops working, loses power, u-connect drops out, dashboard warning lights and sensors stopping working. It’s blown fuses and bulbs and gone through two batteries in two years. The service at the Jeep service centres are not good as well, I’ve had bad experiences and get treated really awful at some…issues all started not long after the warranty ended. As much as I love my Renegade, if you are interested in getting one, don’t. The stigma around Jeep is real and warranted 🥲🥺 I will be trading it for a Kia or Hyundai.

I have been having computer issues since it has gotten cold. I'll start it up and all the damn service lights will go on, hill assist, transmission, 4-wheel drive, parking..etc.
I'll shut it off for a few minutes and restart it and it's fine. Same with the radio and all the settings.

To anybody interested in buying this car. Don't. It's becoming a little more popular because its cheap but don't fall for it. it isn't a wrangler so the dealers and Jeep themselves don't give it much thought. It's also a Fiat Jeep so most mechanics hate working on it. The aftermarket support is very minimal. JEEP/FIAT pretty much screwed over their fans. I will never buy a Stellantis car ever again and i'll make sure I tell every single person not to either.

My experience has been different. I own a 2015 Renegade with the 1.4L turbo and a six speed manual transmission. It currently has 88,000 miles. So far, I’ve replaced a PCV valve ($8) and a ignition coil went bad. A coil is $20. Even though only one coil was bad, I decided to replace all four of them. Either way, less than $100 total. I tend to be a maintenance freak. The oil & filter get changed every 5000 miles. The spec calls for 5w40 oil. I use Castrol Edge. The transmission oil was changed at 50,000 miles. The rear end and PTU oil was changed at 60,000 miles. The maintenance schedule calls for a new timing belt at 150,000 miles. I’ll change mine at 100,000 miles. I generally get 300,000 miles out of a car.

@@markshuell3198 hello there. Great comments. I am having some tracing of oil in the air intake hoses, maybe a PCV starting to fail too. It's terrible because the car only just did 25K.
Im also getting a bad mpg from 40 before then drops to 28mpg now. I cant find the fault. Service with oil and filter is up to date.
Do you think it got something to do with the pcv? The oil is in right level every time I checked it.
I cant find MAF sensor for my renegade, I research and all I can find is that it uses something like speed temperature pressure differential thingy, using the MAP and IAT and pressure Sensors.
