I've been binge watching your channel all day and I refreshed your channel to find a new video to watch when I saw this popped up!! Best thing to happen today
I love your enthusiasm for coffee and mocha. You speak my language! Those mugs snd bowls turned out gorgeous.
I love watching your channel Jon! I'm taking my 1st pottery class in less than 2 weeks and so excited. Thank you for the advice about having a plan at the beginning.
@@kathleenmarx4435 I hope you have a great time too and good luck!
Very generous of you to link to the other potter's video, hopefully will help them grow quicker.
I really love the travel mugs; I tried to make a couple but I had issues with the lids. Could you make a video on throwing and making travel mugs?
My mug from the Etsy sale arrived today. I love it. I love it. I love it. I wanted northern lights but fell in love with this gorgeous blue/green one. Thrilled with my choice. Can't wait for my coffee in the morning :D
Jon, Love-love-LOVE your enthusiasm for pottery and explaining what you have done. Your studio is inspiring and so is your ENERGY!
I ❤ that you are so excited!
Aurora Green & Winterwood combo is a winner. I love it too and the dish sets look gorgeous with food in them!
Thanks for the info on the "micro-crystals". The studio I attend has a green glaze that is "growing" those and I never knew what caused it. :) thanks!!
Those crystal, that are growing in the raw glaze, are different than those that appear in the kiln. Those in the glaze bucket, are from things like soluble salts that work their way out of the glaze and form those crystals.
In the kiln, the crystal are formed by slow cooling. All glazes crystallize to some point, but the slower cooling allows them to grow more.
@@benpatterson4452 oh, they are not in the buckets... I meant growing during firing. But, good to know. Thanks!
@@Maryzlem Sorry, I misunderstood.
Your explanation on the firing hold was not too long. It's so fun to see how much you love what you do. Going to sign up for a local pottery class now...
You and Mathew are two of my favs to watch. Love you passion!
Local resorts love this kind of stuff. I’d make a set for the bathroom and coffee station and send it. Along with a full dinnerware set. I worked for an artist here in Phoenix where her pottery were in massive resorts all over the state. It might do well to send some coffee too.
Love seeing your experiments and the joy of Discovery.
wow you mentioned Mathew, he is probably one of the best potters on you tube. his ability is out of this world. I too bought one of his mugs, I plan on coming to Mocha Monkey this summer to get one of yours, I think getting one at the coffee shop will be so much cooler. nice vid keep em coming. haymanpottery at etsy lol
You’re such a sweetie. And your kiln contents rock the casbah. God bless.
Such a good song.
Those travel mugs are GENIUS!!!!!!!!
Awe I love watching Matthew Kelly too. Best of luck
The marbling to me looks fab alone with maybe a clear type glaze that doesn't override the beautiful effect of the 2 clay s marbled together. But I know you like the dramatic ! 😸
Love the slow cool firing schedule results. Imma gonna try it.
I do love the Northern Lights glaze and I have one of your pieces with it. I never tire of looking at it but the NL glaze on this kiln hold....luscious 👍🇬🇧
Hi Jon. Great video. I am a potter in Irving, Texas and have learned tons from you. Your glaze combos are amazing. Because of you I have switched to Mayco glazes and love them. There is so much to learn from you.
Thanks for your work on the channel.
that micro crystal effect is really cool. also, really like the black mugs with northern lights over top.....very nice!!
Glad to see you so excited and happy! Great video as usual! Wonder what this last soundtrack is? =)
Loved the video no doubt but yes that last song is rocking need an answer dude!!!
Run your way dvin is the name of the track !!!!
Amazing results with the hold!
Make double sure to do acid and base leach tests when you do micro crystal firings. They change the glaze surface and can leach harmful minerals. All this work is absolutely stunning, I would love to own any of these 😊
The marbling reminds me of Jupiter. Thanks for your videos Jon the Potter! 😊
I saw on a RUclips where a potter made one side of each shelf higher than the other (with taller stilts) and that allowed heat/air flow through the middle of shelf’s.
I am curious to see how that would serve your firings.
Your cups and pots are so beautiful. I especially like your cups and pots that look like forested landscapes in winter.
Keep up the great work!
I love your channel, you inspire me to make more creative pieces every time I watch your videos
I'd wondered what it meant by a "hold" when firing! Thanks for the explanation!
Always love seeing your videos! I have really been wanting to take a pottery class but the closest is over 3 hours away... keep up the great work JTP!
Love love love your work!! I don't make pottery, but the process is so much fun to watch and I'm so thrilled that I came across your channel because your work is amazing! Do you think you will be putting any planters up on your next etsy restock! I would love to own one of those! Keep up the great/killer work! 🤙
So nice to wake up to something so wholesome first thing in the morning!!
New subscriber--really enjoying your vids. Must say I love those mugs with the Minnesota outline, since I spent part of my childhood there and always loved the state. Although it's all beautiful.
Great video Jon, excellent explanation and information about your glazing, thanks for sharing that. I also watch Mathew Kelly, what do you think of that kiln he build? Cheers Bob 🇬🇧
The marbled mugs totally remind me of Jupiter. Would be cool to see a set of planet/astronomy themed mugs.
LOVE your red iron oxide with copper ore/sandstone glaze pieces. I think of that as your "Lake Powell" combo. Hoping to score one or more of those on Etsy one of these days... ~~Debz
you and Matthew are my two favorite youtube potters!
crazy good stuff John ,I'm a long time potter but I for sure need to step up my glaze game! cheers Vick G.
Thanks again - so informative. I love that you share these glaze combos and different effects. I, too, am interested in why you are firing at Cone 7? and the clay body you are using?
From my understanding, crystalline glazes is quite the rabbit hole to go down. A lot of variables factor in.
But, luckily, you have a snazzy kiln controller, that will make things easier.
Hi Jon, do you have a tutorial on the travel mugs? They look super cool especially with the micro crystal growth! I love the northern lights glaze
Yeah!!! I missed your Northern Lights!!!
Amazing I love that effect!!!
Oh please can you list those travel mugs on Etsy!??! Please? I need that in my life ❤️
Hi Jon,
Do you ever use molds for plates? If yes, then it would be nice to see the entire process.
Great videos btw - keep em coming
John love your marbled mugs...do you clear glaze your mugs at all...or you just put glaze on rim and leave the rest bare ...thank you love all your videos
Can you also create a video to show your camera and lighting set up?
That marbled clay looks like wood grain! 👍🏻😍🙌🏻
Have you got a video for a studio tour. I watched the one you did in your old studio
Have you tried green on the bottom and black on top for your state mugs? So the black might drop down to shape the green into trees at night?
Its the evening, best thing ever
Whoa! You have like grayish-black kiln shelves! Is that a toned wash, or are they some funky material? Art teachers need to know 😜
Ey up again...what durability (aka ''food safety'') tests do you do? Just wondering with all that layering inside bowls. ...?
Awesome. Is that winter wood by mayco?
Thanks for a great video🌟
When you show the schedule it says 45 mins hold, but when you stand in front of the kiln you said ‘hold for multiple hours’.
How long did you hold?
I have a question , why all the glaze you made has drippings down the piece?
What kind of shelves are those? They look like steel.
My favorite movie is Meet The Parents and you totally remind me of Greg Focker....played by Ben Stiller. So funny!!!
Jon what is your ration for lbs of clay and ?? iron oxide?
Hey Jon, Those Mayco glazes are cone 5/6 . Are you saying you got those results taking them to cone 7 and slow cool?
How did you say you got the marbling?
you are much fun to watch
Where can we find the northern light glaze?
Ey up (Im from Yorkshire. ..forgive me!) Why do you separate ramps 1 and 2...why don't u have just 1 ramp at 150 to 250? Any reason?
I don't understand Fahrenheit. Like me some Celsius.
Cheers me dear
Perfecto!
I am experimenting with those micro crystals too. But where there are the most crystals, the surface is rough. Are yours smooth?
Looks Awesome cone 7 and hold 👊
May I ask 'how long do you hold?' My kiln has a hold feature that I've never used
I am so jealous of your new shop!
I swear if my life were made into a tv show, my catch phrase would be, "I need a bigger shop!"
I am a multi-medium artist working in a 12'x16' shop with no water or sewer.
In that 190 sq ft. I make pottery, stained glass, mosaic, dye fabric and acrylic painting.
What color are the walls? Who knows! I haven't seen them in years. I literally have every square inch of the walls, ceiling and ⅔ of the floor space made into usable space. I even diet so I don't take up more space in there, cuz lord knows you can't watch your own butt, just the results of the damage its done.
All I want is a bigger shop. . . .with a bathroom. I too live in a cold climate and the 100 feet from the shop to the house is an extremely long distance in -20 with a full bladder. I believe it will only seem longer in the coming years.
So congratulations, I hope to be doing the same soon.
How many hours u need?? Omg ur $$ electricity bill must be huge!
Love ur content 🙂
Holy smokes batman!
Me gustan tus vídeos, haces un trabajo genial :3 excelente :D
Perfect👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
you kinda look like a woke Mike Rowe and Im here for it
Gang gang!!
I thought you were doing 100 coasters:(((((
Soon!
JTP Yes we "should" be thinking about how we are going to finish a piece as we are kneading the clay, and if we are making sets. HOWEVER Me? When I start glazing I am a kid in the candy store and "OOH! OOH! OOH I wonder what would happen if I put this glaze over that glaze" Also I have a set of underglaze stick that I like to draw with like colored pencils, And at Color Me Mine a few years ago I discovered the joy of adding dish soap to glaze, blowing bubbles into that glaze and dipping my mug into those bubbles. Toying around with glaze, and underglaze is, for me, three quarters of the fun of ceramics. Whatever plans I had tend to burst like bubbles,. But then, for me F O C U S is a precious commodity, sufficient levels of caffeine are required for the execution of basic survival skills.
Isn't that called a slow cool? Edit: just noticed it says slowcool on the kiln! LOL!!
