If OP is it’s justified Ascon territory. The parents decided that OP didn’t deserve anything or shouldn’t have as much effort put into them because they were a woman. To have a tiny wedding and then use it for the house the parents refused to pay any amount for is petty revenge gold. The parents are only mad because they wanted to show off how generous they were to the married couple in front of family and instead they had an extremely small ceremony at the courthouse which denied them their big show of pretending that they loved their daughter just as much.
The brothers are siding with the parents because that money is $50,000 less of what they'll be inheriting.
They basically gave her a dowry. It is up to her to decide how to use it, and investing into a house is better than flowers and such that will not last more than a day. If they had not given their sons the exact same amount of money she would have then been in the wrong. I would not be surprised if this was an inheritance that was finally gifted to the kids once they are old enough, or this their parents way of giving their kids their inheritance before the parents actually died.

It was never given they would have a wedding close to 50k. OP didn't know ahead of time that they planned to give the 50k, as they stated her "husband" should provide for her. They only announced the engagement, and suddenly they have 50k...so if we base it on "old testament times" they paid her dowery, and the husband-to-be did as he chose to do with it.
For those saying the parents can sue, no, they can't. This was a gift they freely gave, stating for a wedding. OP had a wedding which the parents attended & witnessed. The parents had no say on how much they spent on the wedding. OP was financially smart to have a low-cost wedding and take the remainder and put it towards the home they already purchased.
"We had a wedding... sorry it cost about 2% of the budget... But, at least like my brothers, I now get a home from you!" :D
OP and her husband ELOPED! I doubt either set of parents attended the wedding.
My bad, didn't listen all the way thru, the parents were present. They just wanted the big show-off party.

OP's parents said "her husband" should provide for her house. Parents gave the check to OP and "her husband". She and "her husband" decided to put it towards the mortgage. She did exactly what she was told, just not how they meant it.
NTA - OP had a wedding and hubby had a similar amount saved for a down payment.
NTA you used the $ for a good purchase & still had a wedding. They are just mad you used it for a house they didn’t want to contribute to. Once the $ is yours it’s yours.
What if OP never got married? What would her parents have done then? No down payment for OP?
I think there is a lot of unspoken anger information from OP to their parents. She seems to be still angry about the home thing. NTA. I think they need to have an conversation about why her parents thought homes for her brother were just as important as a party

The parents need to think about the future - if the kids go no contact because of this, the parents won't be able to see the grandchildren.
My paternal grandparents were both from money. When my grandfathers parents estate was sold, the money was divided between the living sons, daughters husbands are suppose to provide for their family's. Grandmother's parents did the same, her living brothers got the money. This happened in Texas during the early 1900's.

OP is absolutely the asscanaut. Her parents were kind enough to cover the costs for a wedding, not to get a house. The parents should sue to get that money back.
