The best identifier in this video is the holographic sticker's orientation. Everything else pretty hard to tell the subtleties. But in real life looking inside at the filter material would probably be most helpful too. Buying from dealership is pretty important on this one if you want oem.
They all from Toyota...don't worry..if buy from dealership and your engine blow up then...PROBLEMS..if not then do not worry....print on the box..no big deal..and do not make people to worry too much....Made in Japan now Made in Thailand cheaper for labor...quality same...engineer and machine to make are from Japan....(LABORS cheap....er is better)
What's with the latex gloves? I have purchased genuine oil filters from a toyota dealer. Junk so called genuine toyota oil filters from ebay. They look identical both the box and contents are the same. However I decided to cut the fake one open and it was absolute junk
I didn't see anything that screams "fake" to me. Would've liked to see the inside, if that one truly is fake. Seems to me that you're only protection against counterfeit parts is to buy from a reputable source.
same.....cheaper is LABOR IN THAILAND....Believe or not...filters are made from elephants shit !! and in Thailand are full of that.....real one too! So why did we worry when we buy a real one
Based on that video you cannot tell the difference and what's more important - it doesn't explain "why" the fake is "bad". You should have cut it open and compared the anti-drain valves and the filtering elements... Poor job. Wasted 10 min
may not have time to cut 2 filters open......at least a million views then He/she will cut open and now they will talk the kind of FAKE...kkk got another million views
A difference not mentioned would be while looking inside, the genuine filter has 3 indention in the bypass valve portion of the filter I didn't see in the fake.

not fake...Toyota made in thailand and JAPAN are still factory..just different countries and the prices may cheaper to make in Thailand people the labor prices of Thailand is more cheaper than made in Japan but the quality and stil the same because the technical and machine and quality control still factory quality..just place and people who work there are DIFFERENT......
stil factory parts just made in Thailand for CHEAP LABOR but quality control stil Factory spec. At dealer Toyota you still find the same filter but 1 made in Japan and 1 made in Thailand is NORMAL not a FAKE FILTERS like some people said...I ask Dealers and they said that....
Don't believe the damn dealers...I compared Thai vs Japanese made filters and the internals of the Thai filter are CRAP. They will allow the engine to last for the first owner so they will come back and buy another Toyota. Not good for my 22RE Hilux, which I plan to keep until I die!!!
Most of fake parts are usually Japan brand. One of reason are Japan brand part are sell at high prices (compare with manufactruer cost), 2nd Japan brand part not open source cause brand owner want take high margin for aftersell market. Even custom officer can not differential fake or Original, cause them can import under OEM part then turn out it is FAKE.
times of 2 products may different and the change of Toyota Factory from designed is NORMAL....Designed change without notice is NORMAL..as long as YOU BUY FROM TOYOTA FACTORY...then...DO NOT WORRY
The real difference only becomes apparent when your toyota 's engine is wrecked before it' s done 200,000 miles , penny pinching on oil changes is a false economy, buy a good grade oil , only buy oil filters from your Toyota dealer , the cheapest oil filters are cheap for a reason
They are both crap...about 15 years ago Toyota changed the designator to YZZ** and moved production from Japan to Thailand. I got a bunch of the Japanese filters for my 22RE from ebay and cut one open for comparison...Japanese = robust, Thai = CHEAP!!!!
The whole point of buying oem is to avoid middlemen and aftermarket penny pinching manufacturers… filters are already cheap to make correctly, so nobody wants to buy one that’s compromised by a shady manufacturing process that saves 1c a filter to look good on the books, even if it performs the same it’s the principle of buying a fake product marketed as coming from Toyota, I’d care.
The drop in filter element type on the counterfeit ones can be crushed with your fingers. The genuine ones cannot be deformed or crush. The genuine Toyota metal type spin on filters are made in Thailand and are manufactured there using strict quality control. The fake counterfeit ones are printed "Made in Japan" but are made in China. Other well known Japanese spark plugs are also being counterfeited and made in China.
who know harm or not anyway??? filter without paper I installed and run....engine start and run fine....no problems .....you change oil every 5,000 miles is count
It’s the inside that counts, you should have cut them open. Who cares about the box or the print.
cheaper to made in Thailand.....they all made by paper high quality...Do Not make big deals
TOYOTA COMPANY KNEW ...THEN OK...WORRY OR NOT IS TOYOTA....NOT US TO WORRY
They all quality paper inside...samething
How does that helps buying the genuine one ? You'll cut them at the store too ??

who can confirm whether the hologram orientation on all filters is like that or is it random?
