I have a question. I have a Phalaenopsis that needs to be repotted, but the flower spike has 2 keikis that are about 3 - 4 weeks old. Can i still repot or should I wait til they are big enough to take off
Thank you for this! I just discovered honeydew on one of my plants for the first time, and it's probably mealybugs 😰 This video was perfect timing!
Thanks for posting and sharing. Very helpful to see this one as I have struggled with mealy bugs in the house plants (not just orchids).
Thanks Dani❣️
Omg. Your timing is unreal. I was JUST watching your old videos on mealybugs last night!! I found some on a houseplant near my orchids and panicked. This is perfect, you read my mind!!
I wish I reviewed this before I gave up. The bugs spread to two other plants.
Thank you 🙏
Such wonderful information and love ! I struggle w these buggers from time to time. Washing hands and surfaces with soap and water often during process, making sure clothing, hair do not come in contact too- the very small newborn bugs are not super visible and all crawl fast like you said ! May everyone have success keeping their pests at bay ✨
Thanks for the info❤️
I was heading to do my mealybug eradication today🤣 What great timing.
Those little fuzzy buggers took down my Tetrapsis C last year, infestation is an understatement. Ick!!
I am very grateful my orchids have not gotten any pests (knock on wood) Thank you for always providing credible information!
LoL, great job, thank you for the info. With the close up, showed hubby & said they look like spider egg nests.
I found some mealy bugs on my water chain plant recently. It's not too bad yet, I can easily use some tweezers and q-tips and rubbing alchohol. Luckily they haven't spread yet to the other plants on the windows sill with them. It's a great time to repot too! Guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow!
Hi Danny. Thank you for all your videos. Have learned so much from you! Do you mind to go through how you manage your 'climbing' cattleyas? I have a few catts that with each new growth it gets higher and grows out of the pot. Its such a headache to keep the roots inside medium. Some tips on how to manage those would be great. ☺️
Thank you for showing us how to clear mealy bugs as I have been looking in everywhere but no help anywhere .
Thank you for this great video! I have some kind of bug the loves the root system for nesting but doesn’t seem the bother the plant to much. I had the plant for a year and it is growing it’s second stem this year. I have soaked it a few times to fertilize it and never saw signs of a problem. I recently got new plants and started to see teeny-tiny ant-like things (black head and thorax, clear or white abdomen tiny as a mite!) running along the shelf. I thought they were from the new plants, but I found they were coming in and out of this established plant! When I took it out it was like a huge infestation of them in the roots! I don’t know what they are but I have treated them like mealy bug and used alcohol to kill them, cleaned and repotted them ALL to make sure nothing else is effected. I think they have been hiding inside and it just happened to be time for swarming.
Love your blue tray, where did you get it?
i did not know mealies can be in the root system too! i was wondering why they keep coming back 😵💫 ty for the info ❤
I have used Windex and it works.
Dani so you only treat it once 🤔
You can use NEEMAZAL (low toxic and low systemic) or Rogor(dimethoate) (strong toxic and strong systemic).
omg THANKS xD ❤❤
Thanks for info, very useful.
I have a question. My Phalaenopsis made buds, and buds grow completely , but never opened😢. What’s the reason? I tried to keep the condition like when it was growing.
Drowning bugs in general works poorly, since a lot of them, in addition to making bubbles around them, can also recover from being "dead in the water" for a few hours. I use alcohol for things that can tolerate it. Oil-based and mechanical removal for things that can't...
Also, *beautiful* ceratostylis!
I don't have a problem with bugs but i have a plant that has 2 kikis on it but they do not have roots asnof yet which has been on the mum for about a year and now there looks like the kiki has a kiki growing on it what can i do please these plant i rescued and they were not very well i have 6 now all from the same source one about to flower
Mealy bug are the worse. Thanks for addressing this problem. Oh, by the way
“Happy International Women Day!” (3/08/22)
I have mealy bugs in my African violets. Any recs for dealing with them? I tried Neem oil and didn't get great results
Thanks for this video! My first orchid has them, yuck! I recently repotted it; can they come from new orchid potting mediums, like bark and moss?
Noooo I just put rubbing alcohol on my Phal roots 😅😅😅 I did rinse off the rubbing alcohol on most of them like 30 seconds after application??? They’re ok. :/
helpful! im fighting mealies on my succulents, just realized i have been using hydrogen peroxide and i need to upgrade to alcohol. thanks!
I have a cactus infested with mealies since this winter... I have tried water with some soap it didn't work very well, I might try the hydrogen peroxide 3% hopefully it won't damage the roots
Am I the only one so Icked by the pests on my flowers 😖 I get nauseous and have no desire to touch the plant but so angry that they attacked my flowers/plants😡 that just makes me fight them immediately
Thank you for the video. I use spirits to remove them.
I just had to do a repot because of what looked like little black fly's
Probably fungus gnats from too much water. They will keep coming back unless u reduce water significantly as they lay eggs in bark. Good luck!
@@lljones1593 only saw a few thats why i repotted with fresh stuff and cleaned up old roots. hoping i found them early, so they didnt get into the other 7 orchids
Thank you for this video! I just found mealy's on my newer Phaelonopsis orchids, but it seems they've already burrowed into the crown... if I Neam oil, should I be drying it off after some time to avoid rotting the crown?
Not necessary if you have good air circulation.
I have mealy bugs right now 😢 I hope I save my Grams prayer plant before it was too bad 😭 she is gone now so I will be devastated. That’s what I get for not quarantining new plants I guess
💚💚
dani im having a trouble choosing what to buy. Should I buy Phalaenopsis samera, bellina or tetraspis?
Bellina!
Mealybugs are one pest that makes me sick. I’m not sure why but they just give me the heebie-jeebies compared to other pests.
Thank you
I have a question, how do you get rid of the sticky film that is left behind? I discovered what looks like a syrupy coat on one of the leaves of my phaelonopsis orchid and it’s been bugging me with the mealybugs
Should I try a soft damp cloth with lemon?
Regular distilled or RO water works just fine, the residue is just sugar.
@@sinine1100 thank you
I hate these things!!!! My orchids have them for a year and a half, this stupid thing killed a couple of my orchids.
Aphids.
