    This was so great! I moved from North to South ( USA) I dug up some favorite plants from my gardens. Now living in the south, the different sin seasons are a learning experience. I brought my Rose of Sharon tree to my screen room along with other bulbs that are growing. I have purchased some different types of cactus or succulents. I am trying to get to know this gardening environment. My rose of Sharon tree had mealy bugs or scale infestation really bad. I used Dawn soap and water, no alcohol last night. I don’t know how they got onto the re- poted tree and how to truly treat am replant my cactus and succlants here in the south. You said high humidity brings them. It is humid here. They do not have ants because they are in my screen house. How did they get here in the first place? I want to make sure they die n not return, what do I need to buy for all types of soils to treat the soil and keep them from returning. I have a homedepot and Lowe’s or Walmart near me. The only this is Covid-19. I try not to go into stores to protect myself and my family. Can you suggest home remedy??

I have been hopelessly trying to fight mealy bugs on indoor plants for two plus years, alternated between soap and water, insecticide (3 in 1 spray), and even rubbing alcohol. Couldn't figure out how to get rid of them without throwing my plants away. Thanks very much!!

I've been trying for so long to get rid of all kinds of insects, including mealy bugs, but unfortunately, no good results. I wish i could use systemic insecticide, but it is forbinden in Québec. I've tried black soap, Pyrèthrine, diatomée earth, alcohol (for mealy bugs), and even Permethrine repetedly for 2 months but in vain. My infestation is not onty mealy bugs but also fungus gnats and thrips. I am so discouraged that i feel like throwing away all my plants. I don't have the heart to do it. I have over 200...😢

    I am treating a few plants for mealy bugs. Is there a time frame on when you can really know you have killed them all and they can be reintroduced to your plant collection? I have never had a pest problem in my collection and have a wandering jew that has them. The plant is delicate and huge! I have chopped at soil level to repot in fresh soil but like i said, it is huge and I am afraid of repeating the problem if I miss one.

    • @SucculentsandSpikes
      @SucculentsandSpikes  Год назад +1

      hello Megan. Unfortunately there's no time frame. That's why you have to observe them (the plants) after a week. aside from that all methods must be repeated again, some actually may require more than twice.

I will give it another week. fingers crossed.

    I thought I had mealy bugs but now I’m not sure. My 12 year old plant was big snd hearty but now is near its death 😭. The plant stems on my monsteria are black on the inside with white oozing out 😳. It’s huge so will b difficult but I’m going to repot to heck for root mealys bc I see tiny white nodules but nothing else. My cactus I think for sure has scales after watching this video. hello thanks for watching boss. for the spider mites you need miticides ( you can order it online, pls follow the instructions on the label ). mites proliferate if the area or plant has been dry for quite some time. it also could from from other plants brought by insects or birds. if the plant is tree-like, you need to apply systemic Insecticides for the mealybugs. for rust fungus, there are many fungicides that you could use like nordox. but pls, with all these chemicals, exercise extra care handling them. use proper protective equipments.

      I can only control what I'm growing on my property.
      I've thought about what you're saying before.
      But I've come to the conclusion that you just can't fight mother nature. The pest from the neighbor's yard will come into my yard. The birds & wind will drop weed seeds into my yard no matter what.
      As a gardener, you just have to constantly keep up on your own garden & fight your own weeds & pests & dont worry about the neighbor's.
      By the way, it's funny, that every year when we buy and release lady bugs into our garden as natural aphid predators, they tend to fly away into the neighbor's yards. I don't get upset about wasting $20 on ladybugs because I know they are helping to control the aphids in the neighbor's yards as well, which in turn is a win win situation.

    I just don't understand why even talk about the "old instructions". Every video goes on and on and on without getting to the point......🤐
