    SHOULD DO VIDEO ON SETTING THE TDC LOCATOR AS I HAVE FOUND SEVERAL OF THEM BROKEN OFF DUE TO PEOPLE FORGETTING TO PULL THEM BACK OUT BEFORE TURNING ENGINE. I DON'T NEED IT PERSONALLY BUT IT'S NEED TO KNOW IF SOMEONE DOESN'T HAVE A WORKSHOP MANUAL.

    You gotta tell people what those wires are for and how to hook them up cause if your fuel shut off Solenoid works then in will never start it isn’t hooked up to power (blue wire). I fought this for an hour one day.

    Hello, I am writing to you from distant Kyrgyzstan, please tell me the tube, which one goes where, on which cylinder, on which pump outlet, please write everything in order where to connect the output tube from the pump

    Great video. Thank you. Did you remove the pump without removing the timing cover (just letting the gear sit in there on the other gears)?

    • @PGFuelInjection
      @PGFuelInjection  Год назад +1

      Yes, you only need to remove the oil filler to access the drive shaft nut. The gear will just sit on the cam gear and not fall out of time.

      @@PGFuelInjectiondid you need to set it to TDC first?

    • @PGFuelInjection
      @PGFuelInjection  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@cameronlafond820 Yes, there is a plastic timing pin under the pump that spots the engine at TDC #1 cylinder. This pin engages into the camshaft gear.

      @@PGFuelInjection thanks. I just found a write up about it and they say to use a gear puller to pull the gear loose from the pump drive shaft. Is that necessary or will just removing the nut be enough ?

    i'm writing you on a question in regards to the square electrical component on top the the pump with the assembly number 8616054, i was wondering if you would be able to tell me what it is?

      Garrett Bump TPS sensor it's garbage, when it fails or acts up or doesn't get correct voltage it screws up your 3-4 shift. Mine did it bad and I deleted the TPS with a $50 kit that you can make yourself for $5. The TPS is like $200 and known to fail repeatedly. Literally all I think it does is control the 3-4 shift. So it's nice when you goose it and it downshifts for 3...but when its failing it makes 4 a random occurrence. Deleting it makes you able to control the 3-4 shift. I set mine for 4 gear shift at 40 miles an hour. Then when I need to goose it to race or pass I just hit the overdrive turn off button. Only autotragic 1st Gen Cummins have the TPS.

    What can I do if my truck doesn’t have a lift pump? Because it has a bypass lol

  • @Sproutt
    @Sproutt 6 лет назад

    So no need to set pump lift at all?

    • @PGFuelInjection
      @PGFuelInjection  6 лет назад

      When the injection pump is rebuilt it is locked at the proper lift to achieve the correct timing. This is common on Cummins engines running Bosch injection pumps. If the pump was not rebuilt or locked on removal from the engine, then the lift would have to be set.

    Hi, new to these diesel engines.
    I Used two screws to lock the pump drive shafts cam plate....I only marked everything with tipex and didn't put the engine at TDC before pump removal....
    Once I get the rebuilt injection pump back am i right in thinking that as long as the offset keyway on the injection pump drive shaft is rotated to fit back into the cam plate and I twist the pump back to its tipex marking then the timing is how it was before?
    It ran very nice before and didn't really want to reset or touch the timing. Just wanted it to be a remove and refit job..... I would really appreciate your help. Thank you for sharing this video, it is so hard to find people who are interested in diesel vehicles....
    I am in the UK and working on a DAF truck with this exact engine in. Many Thanks.
    Ron.

      I am not sure what you are referring to in this statement.
      "I Used two screws to lock the pump drive shafts cam plate."
      There is one bolt that locks the injection pump driveshaft as you can see in the video. Regardless, the best way of installing the injection pump is the method used in the video. You can install the pump the way you have described and you may be close but there still is the possibility of being out a few degrees which may cause a slight loss of efficiency. Even if every mark you have made lines back up, when the injection pump is rebuilt the timing can be slightly different from when it came in. Changing parts such as the hydraulic head or camplate can alter this. Also gear backlash in the engine can cause a slight drift in timing.
      Since the pump comes locked in time, you really have one shot at getting the timing right without using a dial indicator and measuring plunger lift.

      Hi thanks for getting back to me so quick!
      If you go to 1:07 on your video and pause it, Theres two threaded holes near the 'tapered gear', (sorry got my terminology muddled up!) the video shows only one but directly opposite is another threaded hole am I right in assuming that by putting two screws/bolts in them the timing isn't disturbed or altered when you undo the pumps drive shaft nut? I'm not 100% sure what the purpose of them threaded holes are....
      Ohh I see what your saying.... It has been fully rebuilt to my understanding by a reputable company... So i best do it right..... We had good low pressure circuit and loads of diesel going into the injection pump but absolutely nothing coming out to the injectors. I received news today that there is normal wear and tear found inside the injector pump but there was loads of gunk and slime that had got inside the injector pump and blocked everything up inside.
      I have already removed the injection pump and the engine isn't at TDC on #1 cylinder....
      Is it safe to turn the engine over to get it to TDC with the injector pump out? So I can then time it how you have on your video?
      Thanks for your help really appreciate it.

    hey my key on the drive shaft doesnt match up at the 5:30, its passed that, does that matter or do I have to reopen my ve pump and get it to the 5:30 position

    • @PGFuelInjection
      @PGFuelInjection  8 лет назад

      +Jerardo Ayala Are you installing a rebuilt injection pump or did you just have the original pump off for other repairs? A rebuilt unit is locked in time. If the pump was not locked, the driveshaft can turn due to spring pressure on the cam plate inside and be out of time.

      +PGFuelInjection orginal, I have broke a folcrum lever aka governor lever so right when I sealed everything back and put the lock pin at TDC which was at 5:30 but my drive shaft key was way off, so took everything apart and removed the horse shoe washer off and put the key aline with the line which is were TDC will be and tighten it up and reseal everything. just waiting till tomorrow to see if it goes in right. do you happen to have an instagram

    • @PGFuelInjection
      @PGFuelInjection  8 лет назад

      Jerardo Ayala Sorry, no instagram at this time. The timing is set with a dial indicator to a specific plunger lift. If you do not have the tools you could align the key with the mark on the housing next to the driveshaft seal. This will get you close. For best results it should timed at some point but this will get the engine running.
