It wasn't just one quote from Olivia. She also held the fork and said she'd stick it in his eye .....😮
Livia
Some people bought plastic covers when they bought new furniture. They were uncomfortable, but they kept the furniture in pristine condition. They were removed only for special occasions.
The modern version of that is keeping the thin plastic cover on flat screens. But you can't put it back on again.
To be fair to Tony and Carmella, this was also a period of time when kids were getting diagnosed and prescribed anything and everything
By saying "you're the real gangster" he was commenting on how he could see now how manipulative and deceitful she is in general. And not so much, if at all, about her saying she would smother him as a child.
Yes, but it is a really f*cked up thing to say that you would kill your own children. Even in a heated fight. Or to threaten your kid with a fork. Those things also reveal who she really is.
@@oslafoirausuebutuoy5457 yeah but that's a given. She was saying it was directly because of that he said what he said. And that just simply wasn't the case.
“I don’t think [Livia] was being literal. She wouldn’t have smothered them.”
You obviously haven’t been paying attention to her character. You’re being far too forgiving of her. Must be a new-mother thing.
It's interesting she's almost going through the same thing as Tony, maybe just a step behind in realising.
I love when Tony’s father says, “you’re like an albacore (a kind of tuna fish) around my neck” instead of “an albatross around my neck.”
Mary always looks so engaged during these Sopranos reactions. If shes this engaged in season 1 this will be her all time favorite show. 100%
Lol it's funny to see your Mom side defending Tony's mother, wait until you see the real her keep coming out
I'm curious to see if she sympathizes with Janice as well. Seems likely.
@@normie2716 Sacré-bleu! Where is me mama?
classi quote :)
Plastic on the furniture. Boy does that take me back to my childhood. In Miami, living in a house with no A/C you didn't dare sit on the sofa because you'd stick to it. I spent an awful lot of time sitting on the floor to watch TV. Actually, I wouldn't exchange my childhood with the richest family in the city.
No worries, nobody would offer to swap.
Grandma is evil incarnate
From what I have heard from interviews with the American mobster folk who aren't in jail or dead. I think since they often do not wish for their kids to get into the "life" and from what I've heard a lot of big mob guys wanted their kids educated, perhaps this is why Tony wouldn't want his son to learn of and start either fearing him or idolising his behaviour and then likely becoming a soldier for the mob. Perhaps it's less of a concern for daughters because they aren't going to end up as soldier (lowest ranking in the mafia families).
The concept of ADD and its treatment is still controversial in 2024.
The edits are amazing haha
Mary, it's hard to concentrate when our mind is distracted by the things we desire. We are required to concentrate on difficult but necessary tasks, but our mind is desiring other activities. Therefore ADD, what do you think?
Boogie Nights and Field of Dreams is far and away the best of the bunch in your Patreon picks.
Love the zoom-ins! Hilarious
👍
You are only 7 episodes in. Don't get locked into one opinion or view of any character. Things may change as more is revealed.
Except ”Paulie says weird stuff”. You can lock that one in.
I think it's so hilarious how you observe organized crime in America It's so adorable! :)
😊
Funfact: Every single interview I have seen with real Mafia guys...they always say what is said here: That they want their kids to have an honest life and do something decent..because deep down they know the life they have is crap and it will turn out only in one of 2 ways...
Disney Franchise:
The Love Bug 1968
Herbie Rides Again 1974

Please
Mary there is also a prequel movie made a few years back called "the Many Saints of Newark", which stars James Gandolfini's( Tony) son who plays a teenaged Tony
tony !!
❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
Even though we have free will, we are of the consequences of what happened to us in our youth for sure. I mean his dad was a old school gangster and Livia was a VERY difficult woman who rarely found joy in anything.
Mary i get the vibe you are now and always will be a good mother.
I love these reactions so much.
How would a therapist see Melfi today?? Competent but a little misguided. Her approach was common then... relying mostly on Freudian thought that unlocking & decoding your subconscious thoughts (dreams... fantasies... etc) was the path to diagnose & correct bad behavior. Today therapists are focused on conscious thoughts to diagnose & treat patients. Retrain the brain to get new behavior from people. Today they don’t focus on interpreting dreams or memories.
The show accurately portrays therapist 25yrs ago... half Freud & half behavior modification. Melfi slowly changes her style as the show progresses. But I don’t think the Melfi character is a critique on psychology. She’s the one who drags the show & the audience back into the real world. She delivers the hard & deep truths. She’s the avenue for the depth of the show. Without her the show would just be about a bunch of crazy mobsters with no understanding of the choices they make.
If you ever wondered why some people can kill without feeling a thing.... this is the show that will explain it all.
I always get a kick out of your creative little edits. But I laughed out loud at you watching over Dr. Melfi's shoulder.👀🤣
As for your worries about motherhood...when I was pregnant I worried about doing everything right taking care of an infant but my grandmother said "Don't worry, the instructions come with them".
Of course that basically meant that common sense & instinct will kick in (which, thankfully, it did).
You might think that adage is about the physical care of a baby & not about all the decisions ahead of you as your child grows & develops. But it really applies to raising children in general, assuming a parent is level-headed & a good person...which you most certainly seem to be.
You'll do fine. And I'm sure your son will one day look back on growing up & talk about how lucky he was to have you as his mom.✨️🌹✨️
5:53 A.D.D. is over-diagnosed now. It's kids being kids.
I just think you're cute.
My mother was a French teacher, she always told me that to speak French you had to bite your cheeks.
Now I see she was right.
Please continue with the Star Trek franchise.
My mum cured my ADD if I didn’t pay attention she chase me round the house threatening me with a shoe. It’s why I joined the military, a got University degree worked in pharmaceutical industry and was able to retire at 55. ADD is a lack of self discipline not an illness.
Have you watched Bridgerton yet? You should do a reaction of the show if you have not already.
