One important event I think should've been included in today's Almanac was that on today's date in 1977, the musical "Annie"--which is based on the comic strip "Little Orphan Annie"--opened on Broadway, won the 1977 Tony Award for Best Musical, then closed on January 2, 1983, after 2,377 performances.
