Camber Adjustment on Alfa Romeo 147 - How To

  • I read a lot to try to fix a problem that plagued my car for a long time. The anomalous consumption of the tires made me throw 2 new tires .. having converged several times without success I shifted my attention to the camber, which according to all the tire specialists in my area is unchangeable.
    The front camber of the Alfa Romeo 147 is fixed.
    They are right, how to blame him. But how can I solve the problem?
    Slowly some hope, but never concrete solutions.
    After various tests and a lot of time spent thinking about how to intervene, in the end I solved it with a very simple change.
    I have documented everything and I hope that my experience can be useful to those who need it, even if by now owners of 147 there will be very few I hope the video is as useful as possible! 😏😏
    For me it worked, and I solved the abnormal consumption on the front tires. Without Eccentric and without asole.
    Changing the camber on the alfa romeo 147 is possible!

    Bzt puting only the washer there is not gonna be a full cobtact bewteen suspension and suspension tower isnt there gonna be damage and deformation in suspension tower becaus there is so smal contact presure only on the washers

    This a bit confusing - hopefully its just me misunderstanding the descriptions:
    - the explanation of what negative and positive camber is wrong: negative means bottoms out, tops in?
    - 2nd, for the two different wheels, you apparently need to go in different directions with the camber adjustment, yet the washers go in the same place?
    Would really appreciate some feedback here guys.

      yes I know the washers are put in the same way but the camber was in 2 different directions.
      I don't know why, but it has realigned itself. perhaps because of the shape of the suspension. this was my experience, and so I solved an abnormal tire wear. if you have the same problem this can be a way to try and fix things.
      now I have changed the shock absorbers and I have to recheck the camber. I will let you know if this technique has been useful or I will have to change something. but it will always be the result of my experience and various tests made.

    Ugear, great idea and only one question...
    If initial camber on left wheel was +0.01 (according to tires workshop), is it necessary to make more negative camber and obtain negative camber between factory limits (i.e. between -0°28' and -1°08', ideally -0°48')?

      is between limits, is important the value is in this limit. the effective value is not so important, your tyre should consume properly

    Thanks a lot for the idea I will try it out on my 156 for shure...currently I have -2°45' left side and -3°05' right...will see the result after inserting the washers...

      @@PassioneTutorial It helped a lot, I ended up with about -1*45' both sides with a few tries with a few washers on each side as you described!

      After watching the video about 3 times, it is not clear to me where to put the 2 washers to gain negative camber ( /----\ ), and where to put the 2 washers to gain positive camber ( \----/ ). I do not know if it is due to a problem with the video editing, but there is no way, first it is said that the negative camber is positive, then the data of an alignment machine with negative camber is shown, and then washers are installed in both equal sides and the final result is not very well known

      What I want to know is that they clarify for me where I have to put washers to gain negativa camber ( /----\ ) ¿ on the inside or outside holes ?
      And where I have to put the washers to gain positive camber ( \----/ ),¿ on the inside or outside holes ?
      Also what thickness of washer is necessary to modify for example 1º degree, 1.5mm? 2mm? 3mm? some approach not to do the job many times, thank you

      @@norteluz7129 you have tu put the washers inbetwen the chassis and upper whistbone mount...
      If you are aiming for more positive camber you will be putting them under the inner (closer to the engine) screws and if you are aiming for negative one you should put it under outer screws...

    Hello, my camber is -1°27' on left wheel and -1°27' on right wheel...my 147 was lowered and now is back on stock but camber is still bad..
    Does your trick really works?
    How thick were those plates that you put on and did you put them to right place?

      I only reasoned about the geometry of the suspension. it worked on my car and I'm very happy with the changes. I also asked the opinion of an automotive engineer and there is no risk. I think it's a change to try if you have abnormal tire wear. no mechanic has ever recommended such a change, I did everything myself. so there are no guarantees. try and let me know how it went.

    Hello .. I Lowered my 147 by using Eibach sportline springs? And the camber increased like / \ .. but the car is straight on the road after I did wheels alignment.. I'm worried about the tyres that will be damaged soon because of this camber , what your advice??

      When you do the wheels alignement you should see camber values too. Then evaluate the situation

    According to results of the right side, shouldnt left side be more positive if you also put washers there on same place? I dont get it how you have equal values with same washers on both sides if at start you have very different results? At the start you have almost straight left wheel 0.01 and very negative right, -2,xx and at the end you get almoust same values with same mod on both sides'

      I ignore that too, i don't know how, but i solve the problem. I was ready to inverte washers on the other side but the measures makes me stop before because of the results.

    E invece se per fittare dei cerchi che stanno un po' troppo precisi sul passaruota dovessi volere un paio di gradi in negativo?

    Hello you have corrected the -2.34 camber with only two washers, or have to try with more washers then? I have the same camber on left SIDE, and cant pass mot.

      @ruicaldeira8356 i had this setup 4 years until i sold the car, but i explain how that works to the next owner. I had problems without that, and i continue to hold the setup also after changed the shocks absorbers. I think washers are still on car

      Sicuramente è una geometria più malleabile. Se sono modificabili il gommista mentre fa la convergenza le sistema, altrimenti va alesato il foro sugli ammortizzatori e messo un bullone eccentrico. Avevo visto dei kit online per la panda

      I have not found a real "rule", it was an empirical work. I thought about the geometry of the suspension and looked for a way to make it work better, I expected some effects but the result was slightly different and in the opposite direction between the 2 wheels. perhaps by doing what I have done the suspension work is centralized and therefore both the positive and negative camber are changed in favor of a more central value. the only way to tell if it works that I can recommend is to try and measure the camber again every time to be sure. one thing I am sure of, once you have found the right setting you can keep it even after replacing the shock absorbers. on mine I no longer had problems with abnormal tire wear.

    The descriptions for positive and negative camber are wrong . Negative = / \ Positive = \ /
