Just changed mine on my 147, it was so much easier using your method. Thank you.

Thanks for the video , just did this as I was replacing the spring , unfortunately the alu mounting was corroded to the strut, not only that some geezer had included the upper arm housing to secure the strut and spring top! Hope the other side is better .

Always found getting the bolt out a pain too as it hits the spring.
I’ve had success using a spring compressor at the base which creates room for the bolt to sneak by.

    Hi Neil, love your channel!
Would you happen to have video on replacing piston rings on a twin spark?
I’m also looking to change my valve stem seals and would gladly watch that as well.
Many thanks for your videos thus far and I am looking forward to seeing more.
    Cheers, Stephen

It's enough to remove the ball joint and the bolt holding the wishbone, after removing the liner. Changed both on the parking lot on my 156.

Thanks Niel. I'll try this method out soon! 🤞🏼
Do you happen to know the size of your ball joins splitter width? I have 24mm offered at the store. Will that work?

Good way to remove the upper wishbone, but with high risk damaging the fender or at least the fender coating, causing corrosion.
I did it similar already several times, but pushed down the strut a little bit against the rubber of the lower wishbone and removed the complete upper fixing, together with, the wishbone. In this case you easily can do the following work using a vice.
Unfortunately the upper wishbones on 147, 156, etc. are still troublemakers, especially with noises at colder temperatures. I tried already several brands, but all of them have the same issue after a certain time. Independent using, Monroe, Lemförder, or others.
The last one I tried are from Alfisti Shop, internally greased. But these one made trouble with knocking noises after less then one year.

+1 This is how I do it also. I would think not removing the assembly, it only lifts off when you have it that far, save any time at all. Upper wishbones are a yearly maintenance item almost, especially on V6.

I find these easier to do by taking off the top aluminium housing,(which just lifts off the studs, once you have picked out the o ring)with the arm attached, then it’s easy to just undo the bolt on the bench.

totally agree but sometimes its corroded its self to the shocker and it isn't coming off in place.

Another easy way save stripping everything down is to remove the wheel arch liner and bolt can be easily removed

No, you cant´t. The screw is too long. Tried it already without success.

Sometimes it's possible but 9 times out of 10 it's a faff to get the bolt out so always spent 5 min making uour life easier.

@@Brisbane2024no it's not. Remove the liner there's more than enough space. I fitted an impact gun up there and removed the bolt.

Unfortunately, it's not that easy for me. The lower arm does not go down like in the video. I have to pull the damper spring or I won't get the horseshoe bolt in there.

Anybody know what a 18inch turbine style alloy for TI with tyre weighs? Ive just had to carry 4 of them up 5 flights of stairs to swap them for my winter tyres. Thought i was going have a f**king heart attack. Just wondered if im really unfit or they are heavy they seemed at least 25kg to me??

You don't have to tighten the upper wishbone bolt loaded, it is designed to rotate, so it doesn't matter. Nice trick tho, saves some time compared to intended way, I'll try it when I have to inevitably replace these stupid wishbones again.
