"F*** HIP HOP" Was MC Shan A Sacrifice? 3 Reasons His Growth Was Stunted!

  • Today’s feature is a legend in hip hop, but not for all the typical reasons legends are. Mc Shan’s story is much one of sacrifice. He was a casualty of rap and the music business evolution, that never gets credit for his actual contributions to hip hop. DJ Akademiks, hip hop blogger not long ago made comments about the older rappers not reaching back to the younger ones and giving them game on how to move correctly and what things to do and not to do to preserve and push the culture forward. It’s a comment you hear a lot when the conversation turns to what happened to the essence of hip hop and why the music is what it is today. But in Shan’s case his story is all rappers to follow need to know what not to do in the music business. Older rappers shouldn’t have to sit down with and coddle the new era because they each have stories and a particular journey through the rap game and business, that you as a rapper can choose exactly the path you’d like to follow or not. The mistakes and miss turns that derailed or furthered their careers should be the biggest example, but they’re not received. Instead they are casted away as the old way of doing things and irrelevant because their voices aren’t as strong as they once were. Mc Shan Journey through the music business went from one of the pioneers to him at 53 years old saying F Hip Hop! "F*** HIP HOP" Was MC Shan A Sacrifice? 3 Reasons His Growth Was Stunted!

MC Shan was one of the hottest artist from the late 80s to early 90s, but he took the business industry arrows for those to follow. It's his biggest contribution to hip hop culture outside the inspiration he was for Queens and New York musically. His career was interrupted by bad business and never reached the potential it could've.

MC Shan is actually one of the best lyricists. I think his falling out with his cousin, Marl, had a lot to do with his stunted growth. But I heard he also had a coke habit. One could even argue, wrong place wrong time. The industry didn’t take the culture seriously and plus a lot Titans were out at the same time. MC Shan had Russell Simmons begging him to leave LL alone in the early days. Let’s give him his props.

MC Shan (The Cousin Of Marley Marl)....I admire him for not compromising his moral & belief systems, play 2 gay, or engage in some weird rituals to achieve stardom & fortune. We all heard the story about how he was supposed to be the lead on "Fresh Prince Of Bel Air" before Will Got the part. He claimed that Benny Medina, the shows witer & producer, proposed him wanting Shan engaged in sexual activities to win the part as lead actor. Shan, wasn't with that so Benny gave it Will Smith. After allegedly Will dun did what Shan wouldn't..,..,So Shan is my hero for keeping his morals. Question, what rapper that but MC Shan's style ? I give you a hint.....this rapper is world renown, love the ladies, & now an actor ?

We don’t really know if Will did it or not. Sounds like regular casting couch stuff. How that usually goes is they have a person they are thinking about going with, but if you could “persuade” them, they will pick you. If not, they will just go with the person they had in mind. Will might have been a better actor or just funnier at the time and that gave him the edge.
But think about it, if Shan or Will didn’t do the gay act, what would have happened? Would they just keep propositioning random people until someone did it? Lol come on. So Will probably didn’t even need to do it…at that time

How many of us are fallen soldiers in this thang that was mainstream labeled as Hip Hop.
As soon as I realized as a kid in the 70's that what we did, M.C., D.J., Breakdancing etc was being labeled as Hip Hop by big mainstream corporations.
See back then in every rhyme we said Hip Hop and Don't Stop!!!!
Mainstream observed what was being said in our rhymes then conveniently labeled what we was doing as Hip Hop.
I knew what we enjoyed doing as kids was being stolen from us,,, right before our very eyes.
The business aspect of this so called Hip Hop actually destroyed many young artist.
I see where M.C. SHAN is coming from.

Son, smoking Crack in the 80's was NOT the same as smoking weed these days. Crack has ALWAYS been a hardcore/stay-away from drug. Please don't mislead ANYONE, especially the youth, to believe that this drug was common or used casually amongst the masses. Anyone who used it, was considered a disgrace. To be a "Crackhead" was shunned upon.
