  • Amtrak, Coaster and BNSF train footage from Old Town, San Diego back in 2002... back when the Surfliners didn't stop at Old Town, instead ripping thru at track speed 65mph! Also CP Friar searchlight signals still stood at the West end of Taylor St along with all mechanical bells at the crossing... and the pedestrian walkway was still there connecting Taylor street to the Main Track 2 platform. A lot has changed over the years at Old Town!
    Thanks for Watching!

What a great look back to a time when 24 hour quiet zones have yet to creep to every part of the United States and the F59PHI locomotives still ruled supreme on Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner as well as the two engines on San Diego coaster working alongside the fleet of F40-2C locomotives I am thankful that two of those engines have been preserved one is now in operation at the Pacific Southwest Railroad Museum in Campo although not operating on its own power but still putting on a good show

Wow! Now that was a different era! Reversed set surfliner that does not stop a freight train and a bnsf daygo and to top it all off the phi's for coaster in their prime! all in the same day! That is what i call incredible! Incredible video and how do you get so lucky?

It’s shame the all the EMD power for Coaster and Amtrak no longer exists.

It’s a shame that everyone of the locomotives from Amtrak is gone to Metra :(
