Amtrak P42DC #23 with New Nice K5LA!

- The AMTK 23 has sounded terrible for many many years until now... It had a nasty fouled raised letter K5LA, now it has this unique sounding one! Not sure when it received this new one but I'm a fan! I think it sounds great! Not too many sound this way... Amtrak 23 is seen here leading Amtrak Sunset Limited 2 thru El Monte, CA

@@AmtrakCal462With 23 now having such a BEAUTIFUL K5LA, I wouldn’t be surprised if we were to see a ton of videos on 23 going forward especially since I caught him in person yesterday (8/21/24) leading NB Northeast Regional #138 here on the East Coast in Virginia. Great video of #23! I saw it on the Coast Starlight 11 last week and was very surprised when I heard the new K5LA!
Ok that actually sounds really good. That fouled one 23 has previously sounded terrible, almost like 156

Amtrak P42DC #63 has a really nice K5LA too. There's too many P42's with RL horns now honestly. I miss AMTK 59's old NF K5LA too. That one got a RL unfortunately.
I'm definitely aware of 63! 😄 That sucker is arguably the best along with 206, 54, 46, the wrecked 816. Ya I'd say like 80-85% of the Genesis fleet are raised letters, hard to find a narrow font let alone a good one.

@@AmtrakCal462 I would like to add 60, 123, 181 and 835 to that list of great Genesis K5LAs, all are worth looking out for if leading
I would also list 105, 117, 164, 183, 193 and 817 as being not quite as good as the above but still very solid, 176 and 184 were also pretty good but I haven't seen either recently (184 has practically disappeared since Phase V repaint, I can't find any recent videos of it!)

Hehe, 23 sounds absolutely fantastic! 196 and 44 also had very fouled Raised Letter K5LA's for a while too previously, but 44's was worse than 196. Great video Chris!

23 is officially on the East Coast now and is leading a 5 hour Amtrak Cresent 20 into DC today (8/17/24), I too have been waiting for him to return and I’m looking forward to catching him in person soon
