This should be my last comment on this video, just wanted to let you know I came on your channel by accident and I'm glad I did. It is one of the most enjoyable video channels I have seen. I'm 75 now and unable to work but I moved heavy equipment and oversize loads all over North America for about 45years and to be able to sit and watch something I thoroughly enjoy is very soothing. Thank you for your time doing these videos and I'll be sure to look for other ones. God Bless!
Thank you sir! Your comment really touched my heart. I'm glad you like them as I share my tractor seat virtually with others. Who would think that people find this interesting! May God Bless you and your family!
Wow 45 years!! Thank you for your service to your country. I know thats usually reserved for military members but people like you make America the great country it is. Weather you are keeping the roads clear for the trucks that transport food and merchandise or driving those said trucks without you America would collapse so thank you for 45 years of your life in service to your country and fellow Americans!
My Dad pushed snow off of the roads in northern Utah for many years. He died 30 years ago this fall. On occasion, he would take me with him. This video reminds me of some of those experiences. Thank you for making the video and allowing me along for the ride. Be careful out there and get back home safe.
I found this so relaxing and peaceful. A world away from living in the big city but a reminder of some times spent in the Sierras in my youth. I felt like I was there on your mountain, or God's mountain really...it felt that way. I can still imagine breathing in some mountain winter air. Amazing sense memory that is just a breath away. Thank you!
Really nice report. However, after watching you clear snow with your hands, I'm hoping that someone gives you a broom for your birthday. It was great to see how beautiful the whole area is. You gave us a unique tour of the gorgeous Sierra foothills.
Same thing I was thinking. I am also OCD. I would have removed all the snow off your vehicle to reduce weight. I agree with the person that said to plow drifts in opposite direction so winds won’t cause increased height if your drifts!! Is that ALL YOUR LAND??? It is gorgeous!!! Looks like you live in Gods Country!!! It takes a lot of machinery to take care of a spread that big!!!
I lived in the mountains for many years, both Sierra Nevada, and then Oregon, and this brought back some dear memories. I used to commute 40 miles to work, over the summit on I-80, and many times while the hwy was still being cleared. (Even closed, they let me, a local through.) It made me smile when you said you moved there from North Dakota, while I moved from there TO se ND. Thanks for taking me along on the trip. I LOVED being on the mountain roads in winter.
Thank you for your memories. What I find amazing is that it changes all the time. God's handiwork produces some amazing views and some wildlife along the way.
So nice to see someone who knows how to properly plow snow a real rarity on RUclips videos. Dealing with drifts can be challenging . Nice plow set up too.
Thank you for a wonderful video! You have an incredible tool for moving snow quickly in that John Deere tractor and plow, and you certainly have need for it, with where you live. Beautiful scenery, awesome country. You don't have many neighbors, I imagine. You are very blessed.
Beautiful country. BTW: Your plow blade is engineered to push the snow off to the right. The ‘funnel’ end will discharge the snow further away from the edge of the road with a sloping bank.
I'm going to have to agree with the original comment. Use the blade and push the snow to the right or down wind side, to start. The drifts will be smaller in the future with less snow on the upwind side. Good video, though, fun times and interesting. Minnesota plains home here, so we deal with snow and winds all the time.
Totally agree, Idaho here. Definitely going to drift over worse and deeper pushing snow into the drift because it's just going to blow it full again. @@TheRealinfidel
This is a great video. Shows me how big and deep the valleys are I didn't get to go on many trip to visit places when I was younger so it is good to see them from on videos or how ever I can. Thank you for the scenic route. Lol
I love watching this. I live in northeast Ohio and my mom’s mom was born and raised in West Virginia and I got lucky to get the love of mountains from her. I said I live in northeast Ohio. I’ve spent my entire life here and we used to get a respectful amount of snow and now we don’t get any these days. I just miss playing and driving in the snow and watching it fall and accumulate and watching this video lets me live vicariously through you!
@ people that live in Ashtabula, Lake, and Geauga counties try and say that we still get snow. Lake effect snow does not count and they don’t even get as much snow as they used to either. It’s very depressing.
What a great video, I'm from Cowansville, Quebec, Canada, its nice to see snow, we are in an open winter here, milder than normal temperatures ,very little snow ,good luck with the plowing, i am in an apartment complex now, but have opened up many driveways, back in the day when i had my property,,,,,
I've been assigned snow plowing this winter for my car dealership, I'm really excited. We bought an older (mid 2000's) Hyundai 780 wheel loader (I believe it's a 780..). Anyways.. I'm super excited! This is my first time operating heavy equipment at this scale. They've already shown me the controls of the machine and taken me for a few test runs around the parking lot, got me familiar with how it operates and moves, etc. Can't wait for the first snowfall! Thanks for the great video :)
If you can still get it through your gate, a cheap trick we used to do is scrounge a piece of conveyor belting to bolt onto your plow blade at the left edge. Heavy belting in an arc is surprisingly strong and will grab or kick quite a lot of snow. Thus widening your path but still flexible around trees, posts and rocks.
Alan, I really like this idea! Do you roll a belt around a loop and bolt it back to the blade? Do you have any pictures as this is a good idea. thanks so much!
@@almosthomeranch8447 The application really depends on what width and thickness of belting you can locate. Typically, it runs about 3/8” to 3/4” thick and can be a myriad of widths. Let’s say you found some 3/8” thick x 24” wide. That would likely be pretty flexible and you might not be able to extend it very far. Let’s say your plow blade arc measures 40” from the top of the cutting edge to the top edge under your rubber flap. You would want to cut a 40” x 24” piece and lay it in against the end of the blade, with the 40” length running vertically. Try clamping it down temporarily with a couple large welding type clamps near the top and bottom. Then experiment with how much you have extended out beyond the end of the blade and still have it quite stiff. Remember, the snow exerts a lot of pressure, so the thicker and stiffer the belting, the better (to a point that is). We found it’s best to use a piece 3/16” or 1/4” steel strapping, hammered to match the blade arc to bolt thru on top of the belting to help prevent tear-out. Keep your bolts fairly close together (like 6”), but that spacing will depend on the belting’s thickness. Also, you don’t want to bolt very far away from the inboard edge of the belting to prevent snow from wedging underneath. Sorry, I sold my plow so no pictures. Hope this helps!
I just thought of another pretty important tip, be sure to bevel the inboard edge of the belting to help snow slip up and over the belt’s thickness. If the belting does not have steel reinforcing in it, you can bevel that edge with a circular saw. Cheers!
New to your channel, thanks for sharing your video's. I use to plow snow while in the seat of my D4 open cab 4 miles every winter as a necessity for us and others on an unimproved county road. Thanks again for sharing your seat time with us.
Hello from a former North Dakotan, I grew up in the Red River Valley. I too remember a few good blizzards growing up! Love the Shelter Belt reference, if I remember correctly at one time Grand Forks County had the most Shelter Belts than any other county. I do know that a lot of farmers have removed quite a lot due to age/die off and for more tillage.
You've got the longest driveway i've ever seen, good thing you have a big tractor, shoveling that by hand would take you to July/August of 2026 . Lol. Great video, thanx for the ride along.
One more good reason I need a full on front loader. Although my wife might not agree since our drive is only about 200’ and is mostly plowed by the town. But still!
That blade is designed to be winged to the right at all times. The funnel helps throw it farther. Looks like you would really benefit having a snow blower in that machine. Would take longer to clear the road but the benefit of throwing it far it always a huge plus. I habe a little 4066r deere with a pronovast cyclone blower. Throws it about 75-100’.
It's nice to see you running chains buddy. So many people out there don't have a clue how much difference between with or without chains. I setup an old Case with a 10ft on the front and I put a 10ft wing on the right side to counter act the push and it worked really great. Just thought I'd share that with you because it is well worth it. Take care chum.
Very similar to what we have up here in B.C. I plowed snow as a kid on an MF 135 with a blade on the loader attachment. Love looking at the Cascade mountains!
Stumbled upon your video of pushing snow. Most enjoyable, thanks for taking us along. Your location is very interesting, would like to follow your road on google earth. At 77 I and living on east coast I doubt I'll make it back out that way again. Pulled our camper through Oregon and Washington in 2018. Best wishes.
Fellow North Dakotan here, that is a lot of snow to push. Good choice of equipment. Looks like you're doing a great job. If I have one piece of advice that will save you lots of time, let the wind do the work. Push the snow to the side of the road to where the wind does not blow it back onto the road. ... On your second pass, try to only use 75% of your blade to push the snow. Otherwise you end up pushing snow onto your cleared area.
Some good comments and here's a shout out to another ND neighbor. You know how hard those drifts can be back there. I remember going snowmobiling in the ditches thinking it would be soft but it would be like concrete. What memories!
We have an old-time V-blade on our 1960 Hough loader...not that new hydraulic "split" kind they have for trucks. It works best when you maintain speed..We make a single higher-speed pass downhill and the snow curls up a good 4-6' high before coming off the blade. If we need to do pushbacks..we'll take a pass up the hill again with 1/2 the blade and down again on the other side with the other half of the blade. We just got lucky that the V-blade came with the loader when we bought it. It's the single best implement we could put on it. We plowed prior with an IH tractor and plow, and it was tedious but do-able. If you can find an old V-blade..I strongly suggest you get it and have a shop weld a QA to it for the loader.
That's a good suggestion and if anyone comes across one setting in a field I'l love to know about. Or, of course if someone would like to donate one that would be even better! thanks for the comment!
suggestion you could add a curl-out on the left of your plow similar to your right. that would help you to throw the snow further since you like plowing to the left side.
A few more very heavy snowfalls and high winds filling in the roadway and even that machine won't be able to clear the road. with the blade. Only a snowblower can move the material far enough away that the machine is not working against itself.
@@kerrryschultz2904that thing can simply push back banks when they get high. Guessing that thing is good up to 2 plus feet of snow and no matter how hard it’s snowing they should be able to clear once before getting to that 2-3 ft range
What a beautiful window to look out of that is one awesome office doing a good job at what time did you start no one else about the best time when it’s deep like that in the grand canyon the should give you a blower 👍
This rig would be awesome with an 8’ blower instead of the blade! I use something similar to this in Alaska for 3 decades only difference was the blower! I was throwing snow 60 feet off roadways!
It looks like it'd be worth going up to reinforce & finish off your initial safety berm there; and then be able to come back downhill on top of the rest of the big stuff, and then finish going uphill, reinforcing the other safety berm you've just started. I drive truck, and try not to play in the snoobs like this.. 😅
24” in 24hrs is the record in a day where im located. Mtns of NC. Worst storm was Blizzard of 93’ we got between 36” & 48” in three days. Military had to do food drops for remote hillbillys/billyettes, and livestock. One very remote older billyette shot at one of helicopters that was attempting to drop her food. True story!
I only wish our 624s (rentals) had such clean cabs lol... They get a beating up here in the oilfield, though. Only six more months until our one day of summer! Lol
I see you’re putting the snow on the wrong side of the road where it is drifting put it on the opposite side. The way you’re doing it you’re going to get deeper and deeper snow drifts but I’m enjoying your video. Keep up the good work.
I was reading all the comments to see if someone was thinking this as well. Definitely at the top of the ridge it needs to go to the opposite side. Looks like fun time though thanks
Also, when turning sharp corners, make your blade straight until you straighten out again. When the road straightens, your plow, angled one way or the other, but while turning. If you make your blade straight, you'll actually plow a whiter swath of snow while turning the corntrust me. I know what I'm talking about. Try it if you don't believe me and measure it
Thank you for video my snow JD Loader friend 😊. I remember going out from are yard on to start are plow route. It was a very deep snow on city roads. We could NOT get a block. The people just abandon there cars in drive lanes. At 3:30 AM we were finally able to go three plows side by side to clear main highway. Those were LONG 12 Hour shifts. People just go out and drive in the snow, then just Leave there cars in traffic ( plow) lanes, then bitch why the roads are NOT cleared.
From someone who travels these roads doesn't matter where your doing this those people are greatly grateful that you all do what ya do. So thank you.

Mycket bra av dej ,,det ser jag framemt,,älskar att se dej i gen,, 🎵🎸🐺👍
Great video. Keep up all your hard work
27:40 Epic change of scenary! 😲😲
Very nice video! Greetings from Sweden
Greetings and how's the winter been in Sweden this year? I've always wanted to see that countryside.
What you really need is a big snow blower !!!
Reminds me of 40ish years ago with a 966xp cat plowing using a v blade and wing through 10 to 15ft drifts having to wing it off. Good times lol
I always plow everything so when the wind is blowing the snow away from the Rd.... Not back on the Rd..... But great video
That's a nice plowtruck
It looks like it'd be worth going up to reinforce & finish off your initial safety berm there; and then be able to come back downhill on top of the rest of the big stuff, and then finish going uphill, reinforcing the other safety berm you've just started. I drive truck, and try not to play in the snoobs like this.. 😅
wunderschöne Natur, cooles Video 🙂 konnte Stundenlang zusehen... Abo geht raus ❤
Lol
too funny... I didn't think my cap was that clean. Now I need to clean it!
JAN 10 2024...Thanks for Video! Kids lobe this
I see you’re putting the snow on the wrong side of the road where it is drifting put it on the opposite side.
Never push snow into the wind
I plowed roads for over 20 years.....he also should be driving a little faster to throw the snow off the road further
Yup sure is lmao
The man who showed me always said dirt up hill snow down hill that way it will dry faster and not spend weeks melting over the ditch
Wow sure is beautiful there, I just subscribed I’ll be watching more this is pretty cool 👍👍😎
thank you kindly!
Also, when turning sharp corners, make your blade straight until you straighten out again. When the road straightens, your plow, angled one way or the other, but while turning. If you make your blade straight, you'll actually plow a whiter swath of snow while turning the corntrust me. I know what I'm talking about. Try it if you don't believe me and measure it
We is all 412K sat in the seat with you.
Working at a steel mill. U should've seen the chains. We had to use on our loaders. Cleaning the pit out. Where the liquid slag was.
Yeah, I'm sure they had very heavy chains. It really saps the power though. When I have them off in the summer it's like I'm free!
People just go out and drive in the snow, then just Leave there cars in traffic ( plow) lanes, then bitch why the roads are NOT cleared.
thanks for the note. Very little traffic up here (especially when the road get's snow shut). Very peaceful sometimes in the solitude. :)
WoW! Just beautiful!
I've got another video in the sun that you would love. It premieres tonight at 7pm. stay tuned!
May 8 2024 leadville,co we got 20 inches overnight it was like moving cement.
thanks used to plow snow with a Gallion road grader
