      @@MrBjorn6 Currently, prime Novak vs prime (future) Carlos = Novak will always win, not saying that Carlos is not an excellent tennis player at his current age, just saying that..to be a legend first you need to beat yourselves, there was many talents in tennis history, but just a few of them were able to beat themselves first, and that`s the difference between legends and really good talents, time will tell

      WAY better nutrition and training and treatment available to him than any past player had, so Pete could never have predicted that big 3 would play this long.

    Who would have known that by 2021, Novak would be the player with the most weeks at no1 in history, have six year end no 1 finishes and 18 grand slams. But hats off to Sampras, without his contributions to the sport none of the big three would be this great. What a legend both Sampras and Djokovic are.

      Believe it or not, it is because of watching Pete Sampras back in the summer of 1995 that motivated me to continue playing tennis up til this point. Guys like Pete Sampras, Patrick Rafter, Andre Agassi, Boris Becker, Stefan Edberg, Goran Ivanisevic, and Richard Krajicek were some of the best players back in the 90's era and I will never forget them.

    - No one else won so much (without having a losing record against key rivals!)

    Would have been so badass if PETE stayed fit and trained regularly in his 30s so he could play a serious exho against Fed, Rafa and Nole. I know he had a series of exhos against Rog, but would have been cool to see how his game would match up against the other two - and if his advice about charging the net against Nole would be effective. *sigh*

    ...i don't Sampras is being serious...the way he played wasn't boring by all means! take his matches against Agassi! can you call those boring? ...i think with what he said he just wanted to pay respect to today's tennis and its champions, but its not his real opinion it cannot be!...player, who dominated the whole 90's era cannot seriously think that tennis of that era he played in was boring!...end of story!...

    I for one cannot watch modern tennis. What you call enjoyable, I call monotonous. The variety in the game is gone and that makes it boring for me.
    Granted, I think tennis was most exciting in the 80s, but I would still take 90s tennis ahead of today without a moment's hesitation.

  • @wordlyfe
    @wordlyfe 11 лет назад +1

    “Personally, to watch a Pete Sampras versus Goran Ivanisevic match, or one between those kind of players, is not enjoyable. It's not really tennis, it is a few swings of the racquet. It was less eye-catching than what we do now. Everyone enjoys the tennis we play much more. I am not saying we are playing better tennis, just more enjoyable tennis. For me, in the past it was just serve, serve, serve."
