So good. That guitar just screams and cries, it couldn't match the tone of the song any better. It's like the whole song slowly builds in emotion trying to keep it together until it can't hold it back anymore and just explodes with emotion.

This is a killer performance, isn't it? So raw, so tender, so true, so screaming and weeping and ... Actually I am a classical opera singer (bass) and as an instrument I just play piano (mostly J.S. Bach). Usually I detest pop music. But not with John Mayer, and especially not with this very performance of Slow Dancing In A Burning Room. That guitar solo is an emotional eruption, and after 25 times it still transports me into space.

When I grew up everyone in my age group hated John Mayer and saw him as cliche girl pop music. Fast forward a year after high school I survived a serious car accident that almost killed me.
Still recovering from multiple fractures in my spine, a relative of mine convinced me to go see John Mayer in San Diego during the summer. They wanted to get me out of the house to boost my mood.
Mayer went on to put one of the best live performances I had ever seen. I was literally left speechless and had my mind blown by his guitar playing abilities.
Like the girl in this video I started to cry during his solo of Slow Dancing In A Burning Room. The climax of the song just reverberated throughput my entire body and made me emotional.
I was so grateful to be alive. To be a survivor. To be in that moment under the stars experiencing the raw expression of his musical talents.
I'm in my 30s now and every guy from my generation now reveres Mayer and is their favorite technical guitar player.
Sorry to ramble, I randomly stumbled on this video and it made me emotional. Wanted to just put my story out there and tell others that life is incredible and worth fighting for. As someone brought back from deaths door it truly gave me a new take on life. Even 15 years later. Hope everyone out there gets the love they deserve.

I've watched this video many many times, always focusing on that amazing set of licks at 5:35, which I have always thought are some of mayer's best. Did not realize until recently that the lick is a note for note recreation of the vocals in the outro of Aerosmith's "What it Takes," and that the lyrics of said vocals are "I don't wanna burn," in a song called "slow dancing in a burning room." Not only is it really really clever, but the execution is so perfect; you can hear the guitar singing that lyric
