- Martello Caravan Park based in Walton on the Naze in Essex have recently fenced off many parts of the site and boarded up the majority of the entertainment complex, shop, swimming pool and arcade.
Absolutely gutted and saddened to see this. So many wonderful memories of my childhood days. Brought tears to my eyes. Funny how things can affect you after all these years. Loved this place so much! Gone but never forgotten Martello. x
Wow, so many memories. My Nan had a caravan and this was my second home throughout my childhood for over 10 years.
The Clubhouse, Disco, Brian & Charlie, Prize Bingo, the beach, the pool, Pie and Mash in the town!! Whenever I remember being a kid, I think of this place.
This makes me so sad. This place was my second home as a child, my Nan had No 1 on this site for years. Such good memories :(
We had caravan site 230 for all of my childhood, our weekend retreat throughout the 60’s and 70’s. How did it become such a dump?
Great video, thanks for sharing....popped into Walton yesterday 03/06/18 to show my kids where I used to go for holidays in the 70s, couldn't believe it was gone...had some great times there with family
Wow that was a trip down memory lane in the 90s from my school summer holidays as a child growing up! Very emotional, great memories x
Wow what a beautiful video although very sad, I have some precious memories like many Londoners, well done and thanks John Tyce
+John Tyce Yes, so very sad, had the best memories there. i have a tear watch this like all londoners will have :(
So sad that was demolished, my best memories from 2005 to 09 with the family, alot have passed away since...🥲
I holidayed in the 1970's here with my family. Great memories of Fay, the smoking ginger haired bingo caller, and Austin and his wife who lived in the giant double decker caravan by the side of the Martello tower. The little restaurant on site that served the best chicken roast dinners
The memories I have of that place best years of my life 93 till 2002 so sad
We had a caravan there in the 60's. I have happy memories as a small boy playing on the abandoned concrete D-Day barges.
kiddlesk my nan and grandad had a caravan there in the 60s
I love you Martellos and I miss u ken the DJ love helen
This place holds so many memories for me. I remember constantly holidaying here with my mum and dad when I was 4. (51 years ago.) And then my dear friend was murdered here in 2005. Sad to see it go. Sad times
Shame they let this camp get so run down. I came here on holiday as a child and later worked here for two seasons, such great memories of this place, Brian & Charlie who were the resident band in the late 80's, the miss martello, talent competitions, and staff.
Crappy wages, but the free beer, memories and laughter more than made up for it.
Rip Martello.
Would you know my nan and grandad
What did they do that was my childhood gutted
Gutted so many memories
oh wow its a shame to see whats happend to this site i had a caravan before it got robbed/trashed and had god knoes whom living in it. ! i used to love hanging outside the club LMAO good memories of years past.. it was only last year i was there on holiday in a caravan between shop and arcade and the shop and chippy was open ended up given birth on holiday and wanted to go back this year but no caravans to hire. and all closed down. just heard site will be closing down for good as of jan 2015! and the people i know whom have a caravan have lost them due to not being able to move them!! sucha shame!! Thanks for the video and GamingPillarUk showing people what its turned into considering last month they was selling caravans on there site!
Only thing you missed was crabbing 😢 So sad! We had the first caravan on the right at the bottom of the slope for almost 20 years from the early 80s to late 90s if anyone can remember 😊 was a bugger walking down pissed 😂
what a shame to see it closing, it was very run down and old fashioned, but we enjoyed many years here with our kids and family We 2 had caravans over a period of 11 years Pauline in the site office was a bit of a dragon, but ok when you got to know her. R.I.P Martello and thanks for the memories
what happened a tornado?
I had the best family holidays here...it is so so sad that this is whats left of the place :(
I stayed here at this site back in 1950s and 60s so is it sad to see what has happened to the caravan site, also sad to see the state of the old tower.
Sad to see it go but it was an eyesore the last time I looked around it 18 years ago or so, nothing like I remembered it, but much as you see it here, more industrial estate than holiday park. When did the Gartons sell it off? I went there every weekend for years back in the 60’s so it’s weird to watch you youngsters talking about how it used to be. Thanks for filming and sharing it. 🍻
My sister went Walton recently, she said she couldn't see,the Martello tower, anywhere.
They wouldn't knock that down,it must be protected, listed?
Yeah tescos is building on the front field and where everything is boarded up there knocking down I think I don't know they ain't telling us nothing yeah we like it for the privacy aswell and we find our own fun in the holidays so it does turn out to be quite good but in times like now it ain't good you are right it has gotten worse by the years it's deteriorated badly but you only videoed the part of the caravan site that doesn't belong to the council anymore if you had filmed up at the caravans which is what belongs to the council still and is the actual caravan site you would of found some nice caravans if you go right to the bottom and turn when the path turns there's some beautiful caravans and some not nice caravans and you will find that on the part of the site where the actual caravans are
No not any more there bluing something else
