Thanks
How you are not a TV star yet blows my mind. I simply can't believe that this content is free. Thanks Jeff, for all of the awesome content you have provided over all the years.
He'll have a bigger audience here
He makes plenty of (well deserved) money with 3m+ subs, doesn't have anyone to answer to except his audience and makes his own hours. I'm sure that's why lol
Tv is old news you much rather be a RUclips star unless you making millions doing big movies
I love your teaching style. Thanks for sharing the small tips and tricks as you go. You've helped me so much in my DIY home renovations. I appreciate you. 🙏
Absolutely love your content. Thanks to you ive rebuilt my basement bathroom from the ground up, tiled floor, custom tiled shower and all DIY.
Your videos give people the confidence to do these larger projects.
Coming from Sudbury Ontario area, we love you here!
Jeff, your videos are awesome. You remind me of all the great videos that my grandpa loved, but I was too young to appreciate.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching the HGTV/Magnolia Network/etc as much as the next person, but they're entertainment. You sir, you are a teacher. Thank you.
I watched him for so long I’ve actually grown to care about this brother like he’s family!! With that said no matter how small or huge the job is please don’t cheat your family or us
(your other family) out of life please please PPE 🙏🏾
Was about to say the same thing. It only takes a few minutes to put on a mask and I'm saying this a as a former smoker.
Yeah, but you should see the finish on his lungs, a real nice modern look, lots of added value.
DIY tiled my kitchen backsplash, watched all your videos on that. So helpful. We just bought a cabin and the kitchen needs a facelift on a budget. This video is for me!!
Glad it was helpful!
Jeff spraying the doors was the best tactical move and shoot course I’ve ever seen😂 love your videos!!
Let’s go! Right when I’m planning to do this at my house. First time owner and needs updating
Awesome. Cheers
Beautiful job. This is how the pros do it
I so enjoy your content! I always learn something new 😊 Thank you 🙏
Awesome! Thank you!
I am just happy you went with a color other than stark white.
A favorite color and a classy look
I actually appreciate the grit/thicker paint mistake and recover.y. Thats the same kind of mistake I have made before and so easy to forget lol.
Cheers , when working on a large project it is easy to forget a little detail.
Thanks bro. Good job.
I know this was a painting video but I liked how you did the waterfall effect w/ the butcher block counter top over the end lower cabinet......🥰
that video is coming up next week. Cheers!
So knowledgeable. Thank you!
Cheers Sue!
thanks n God bless u for share this.
Happy to be of some help. Cheers!
You can also do a TSP /ammonia wash To help with the sanding process
The cabinets look great!
Cheers!
Tack cloth is good for removing the dust and waterproof shelf liner can help afterward.
Maybe its just me, but I prefer the inside of the cabinets to be lighter so you can see inside more easily when looking for things.
The hook thing to hang the doors up is interesting. Wish I'd thought of that for my vanity doors but they are old plywood. Another way to do it would be to have two hooks so the doors don't move around so much. I don't usually paint the insides of the doors so I'd probably use loops on the back and S hooks to hold it on the bar.
I don't have strong fingers so a drill bit or screwdriver would be good for moving the hooks.
I'll have to see if I can set up something like this in my workshop but I'd use regular spray paint as I don't have the fancy paint sprayer. I'd probably hang stuff a little bit higher up so I wouldn't have to bend as far to spray underneath- I don't bend well. LOL. I'd rather have to use a stepstool or ladder to paint the top than have to bend down.
Here we go with another banger!!!
Cheers!
Glass top stove ranges are highly underrated
For a guy who hates Behr paint sure loves Home Depot buckets. Love to instruction Jeff.
I used the same hooks but I used 2 per door so I wasn't chasing the doors as they swung
Always great content
Thank you.
Painting the builder's cheap pressboard kitchen cabinets white to cover the ugly dark stain was my first major reno project. Primer was my friend, I used a sprayer on the doors. It looked good for a decade and a half. My budget was miniscule so I used $1 sq. ft. tile on the countertops. No one told me I could rent a wet saw so the tiles were cut with a breaker bar.
Loving the can do attitude. Mix that with a little experience and voila you got yourself a real handy person. Cheers!
Jeff, I absolutely love watching your videos! The worst part is, you make everything look easy, then I get ideas that are beyond my reach. 😂 Regarding this kitchen paint job, I would love to do something like this in my current kitchen, but dust & overspray would be an issue. Yours was obviously a complete kitchen renovation - did you tape off much or have issues with overspray? Other than for the videoing purpose, did you not need a face mask or was there not much spray blow back? Thanks so much! Keep up with the great videos!
50 grit too rough you will never get rid of those sand scratches. The old paint isnt peeling so id just sand it smooth and call it prepped. If removing old paint was desired then chemical paint stripper is your best bet.
If you must sand use your shop vac equipped with a dust bag. That sander will easily accept the hose and boomski dust extraction.
Cost of great cabinets?...,lungs baby, LUNGS!
This guy *never* uses appropriate PPE. It’s frustrating to see
Some good tips for dyers, all ill add is if you're young and spraying, if you touch that trigger you better have an actual respirator on if you want to dodge the risk of cancers at a young age, just cause you see Jeff over here winging it doesn't mean it's okay for you to also wing it and be as reckless as this. Jeff you're a mad lad for 22:30 lol, that sticky chemical overspray micro paint particles going right into your lungs. Well anyways, besides the health risks the end result looked like a great improvement, great job =)
Vacuuming works much better with a natural bristle brush attachment on the vac.
Why would u not do all the sanding at one time instead of priming then sanding, getting dust to get onto the primer?
I was actually working on this over a few different days. Cheers!
I would have started sanding with a small belt sander and 120 grit paper then switched to a palm sander with 120 then moved up to 180 then 220. Much faster that way. At least set a box fan in the window to blow the dust outside. Even better is to attach your shop vac to your sander.
HomeDepot has a citrus paint stripper that comes in a spray can. Works like a charm but be careful cause whatever you spray it on or over spray on it is coming off.
If you attach the vacuum to the sander outlet port there will be a lot less dust.
Very nice
I would have used the fine finish tips if using an airless sprayer, and a much smaller spray pattern to reduce wasted paint in over spray. Also, the Sherwin Williams Gallery Series paint is specifically designed for cabinets, especialy kitchen ones.
What store were the doors from? Looking for options for our kitchen reno, either paint what we have or update to new doors and paint.
Note that may have been missed is to put the hole that you drilled out of sight. So on the top for uppers and bottom for lowers so no one will see those little holes.
Should definitely use a blue housing with a fine finish tip much better finish
I've got a modular home, the cabinets have some kind covering on it that came from the manufacturer. Do I need to try and remove or lightly sand and primer it
Love your videos 🎉❤
when in doubt scuff and prime with a flat oil. Cheers!
If you’re around the corner from Home Depot it is definitely more efficient to hold off on starting to sand for 15 minutes while you run out and get proper grit sand paper instead of wasting your time pushing through with 220 to tear through two layers of paint one of which likely being latex based
Also never sand material directly beside wet paint or primer… that’s a simple one even a diy guy knows that, you’re kicking up dust and particulates and they’re falling in the wet paint now you have tonnes of floaters and spots that to get a professional finish you have to sand out or in your case, landlord special and paint over
He did, just didn’t mention it, see 9:09.
This reminds of that Bruce Lee movie, No Retreat, no surrender, when he throws the wood blocks back at the trainee
All your videos are fantastic! I have been learning lot from your videos, I wanted to learn painting cabinets and you showed hot these cabinets are painted, I have calling for painters for cabines, they are asking ton of money to paint my cabinets, I recomment anyone who is looking to get paint cabinets. Please can you list your paint machine and what kind of machine we should buy? It is important to know about machine what to look for in machine specs. Thank you very much!
Our garbage company in Wash State requires us to put cat litter in empty paint cans. The litter absorbs all the paint and hardens, making disposal more eco friendly.
Can't you just leave the lid off a few days so the mostly empty can will air dry?
Where did you get the door and drawer fronts? did you measure and custom order or did you make them? I missed that in fo but am very interested in this project…..the wife saw it and guess what…..yea…..i’m doing ours to shaker style also….argggg!
The airless gun seems to be much more maneurable, perfect for this situation.
like a dream!
Dust mask and kitchen enamel work for me
Could you tell me why can’t use a brush to paint? must use a sprayer?
What brand of paint? I was going to use the Behr paint from home depot since we used it on our trim and I have leftover (semigloss) but sounds like you think that's a bad idea
He is using Sherwin Williams paint
find a good smooth finish with enamel.
I have problems with my particle board faces. Like in the kitchen when washing dishes water drips down and warps it. It's awful
What brands of primer and paint did you use? Thank you
sherwin williams , prep rite and latex enamel.
Is that the trailer in Florida
Great job , What tip did u use Jeff ?
the one that comes with the sprayer. Cheers!
Is that the project plus or x5, x7
It seems that sprayer does not produce paint breeze, is that right ?
Watching this reminded me of the misery of refinishing my kitchen when I sold my house, sure looked good after though but man sanding and painting inside cabinets is just not fun.
Or you can do it how I did. Wipe with Dawn and slap some old paint on them you find in the garage. 🤭🤷🏼♀️🙋🏼♀️🤗
oh ya did! haha watch whole episode then comment. I get it
Curious why the vacuum isn't used with sander ...
Suburban red green
If it cost you 600 on a 4000 quote...how many hours did you spend and what would you bill yourself out at per hour?
Is there a good way to paint cheap laminate cabinets? I tried this expensive stuff called *Beyond Paint* that claimed no sanding or primer was needed, But the paint peels right off 🤦♂️
always scuff the surface and then prime with a flat oil. Cheers!
Welcome to the U.S. brother enjoy sunny Florida!
Thanks! Will do!
Looks great... but no masking of the windows?
Jeff loves to live on the wild side. You'll see when you get our age lol.
just don't spray at the window no problem. Cheers!
Drink when he says
- Less is more
- That's not goin' anywhere
- Know the end from the beginning
Any other Jeff sayings??
Perfect every time!
That's money in the bank
60 grit for the prep? 220 grit for the finish. Correct?
yup!
Maybe a 4 grand paint job would get you a better color? 🤣
There's no accounting for taste.
It's not a terrible color
My Lord brother what size nozzle are you using looks like a 415 you should probably be using a 3:10 on
N0 -if you change colors by just shoving the pickup in the new can the paint ends up being a blend of the 2 colors. You end up with a paint job where the color is a gradient changing from the old color to the new. It can take 1/2 gallon to get all the old paint out. You'll end up with a different shade until all the old color is gone. Just clean the machine, or have your primer tinted to the finish color. Also, you really ought to wear a mask. Breathing aerosol paint, even latex, is dangerous. That is a stupid way to save a few dollars.
Most people have know idea what the color is in side their cabinets.
Anyone else think his voice is the exact same as red green 😂
I do !
Bring your left over paint to the recycle rather than let it dry out. It is free to you and the solvents get reused.
Can I repaint melamine white cabinets??
yes. sand and prime first with a flat oil!
So how much do you price your time? 0
👍👍
You say home depot paint is bad, but what paint is good? What store do you go to?
He is using Sherwin Williams paint
I like C2, Sherwin Williams , Dulux, PPG, Pittsburgh paints, Benjamin Moore
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY Thanks!
Jeff, an airless sprayer is not ideal for kitchen cabinets, pressure at nozzle is above 1000 psi, which is too high for fine finish.
i turn down the pressure to almost nothing. works great
Lets see what they look like in 6 months.
😎⚒️😎⚒️😎
Yup costs 3 to 10k for a pro to painylt kitchens we have living costs we dont have a salary making 100k a year with amazing health plans and retirement we need to our asses off.
Use boat paint. It will never peel.
Holy crap! So many triggers in this video. The worst being the dirty spray gun and then switch from primer to paint. Such sloppy careless work
As a contractor you should be setting the example by using a respirator homeowners are going to be spraying and inhaling paint over spray which is not good for them
People should take care of themselves. They really don't need a babysitter.
First things first he's trying to teach DIY people how to do this. People don't know you should wear a respirator and are unable to take care of themselves due to ignorance. If you want to spray without a respirator and inhale multitudes of chemicals that are not good for you go ahead and do it but if you purporting yourself as a teacher you should be teaching the correct thing I've been a painting contractor for 40 years oh my guys wear respirators I tell everybody that I interact with to wear a respirator Read the paint can and it'll tell you the same thing
Guess you didn't even watch 2.5mins in...
@@urloverbaby219I did watch the entire video and he uses the dust mask for sanding and not spraying. Did you bother reading my comment about spraying. And do you understand the difference between spraying and sanding?
spend 1/2 hr going to get 60 grit. haha
How do I avoid sanding too much?
use a finer grit. you will never oversand. Cheers!
Thoughts on Benjamin Moore Advanced cabinet paint?
Did u try it
Good
have not used it yet, but I am sure it is a good product.
Did anyone hear the part where he told what paint was used?
I was wondering what the sheen is.
It looks flat to me.
Or eggshell.
5:08 in the video
11:05
This is Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane. If you were to use a sprayer, you would not want to switch the dirty intake into the paint like he did. Secondly you would want to use a much smaller spray tip than he used. He has spraying experience, which is probably the only reason he doesn’t have big runs.
Sherwin Williams Emerald. Sprays like a dream!
What in the absolute heck is this painting method
Let's see your video on how to do it properly
He is so smart about remodeling and then shows us this spray paint method with is absolute lunacy. He isn't even wearing a mask, and ducks down right where just just sprayed to get a face full of paint particles. This video should be removed. It is downright hazardous to encourage people to spray paint like this.
@@jackt6595 blood sweat and tears win every time
@@jackt6595 Try to notice that there was very little overspray and no fly away particles. Also, STFU what are you the f'ing video police? Maybe you stop trying to be a f'ing authoritarian ass. People can make there own decisions about safety gear.
Step 1: Wear a respirator
I agree with a lot of the comments on this video. This is a pretty poor how to video, and there are plenty out there. I like a lot of Jeff’s videos but this one is a bit hard to get behind. Sanding after spraying primer…seems like he realized after the fact that he should’ve done this. Moving the intake from primer into emerald urethane without cleaning, and at the very least it should be flushed with water, but the proper way would be to clean it completely. Using a much too large spray tip, looked to be in the 500s, and not wearing a respirator when spraying, especially into a cabinet opening which ensures blowback. Why not spend a little extra time to teach viewers the correct way? Because he’s a smart guy and knows how. Not great on this one.
I hadn’t even got to the door spraying before this comment. My god man. That might be the most awkward set up, not to mention the single hook, the drying right in the spray zone, and the height. Despite saying “plan it out to make things easy, it just makes sense,” nothing makes sense here.
He's not a painter. There's a very big difference between someone who does it for a living, and someone like Jeff.
@@muzic4lyfe2005you do know Jeff started off his career as a painter right? The thing op doesn’t realize is yeah he cut some corners but that’s the whole point of this series. He’s renovating under a budget and under a time crunch. He’s showing people it’s okay to do some things and it’ll be alright in the end. He said that when he put the white primer filled pump in the green canister. Op didn’t listen clearly. This series isn’t really a how to step by step. It’s a showing the process to make some people more comfortable with the idea of doing something without a big budget
Jeff, completely off the subject. But tell your Camera man, this is an old trick I learned when I was a camera man for 2 years at a local tv station here in San Jose, Ca when i graduated from High school. Tell him to Zoom all the way in, focus the camera, then turn off the automatic focus, and he will never be out of focus again. Also, you should put your remote mic closer to your mouth, it's hard to hear you most of the time. Don, CA. 4-21-2024.
I’m assuming mask and googles are a good idea for this?
For something this small?
Good for you.
@@joseph7105 I’m not sure, I’m just asking. I’ve never used spray paint before.
@ryantaylor5297 don't worry about the comments. If you've never done this before and never used an airless spray machine then yes, put on a mask and goggles (especially in a room this small) no one likes to account for the overspray or the paint bouncing back or dripping into your face and eyes... Protect yourself. Get experience. Get confidence and then decide whether you need the protection or not.
@@thefertilemind thank you! Very helpful.
What am I doing wrong with my X5? I need to mask everything and wear a mask and goggles. Used it plenty, so it's not my first rodeo.
What is your question?
I think, you can clearly see he doesn't wear a mask and goggles and tapes.nothing off so the question will be why doesn't he wear a mask
His question is likely: “what’s the trick to spraying without needing to mask up?”
Lower pressure Jeff mentioned
@alrasekhoon1 He is just spraying cabinets, not entire walls, and using low pressure so you don't really need a mask
As for masking off, not necessary if you're cutting in and painting afterwards
Where's your safety glasses, and maybe hearing protection?
You must be new here
Ok mommy, thank you mommy.
The not so handy handy-man
The materials alone is a few hundred. How are you quoting this 600? Thats a joke dude
Like your channel a lot. I do wish you were wearing a mask. Even latex overspray isn’t good for your lungs.
Maybe Ai can translate or maybe people should learn Spanish 😅
To people complaining about the guy not wearing dust mask. Are you reallly expecting to get clear instructions from someone who wears a dust mask and just mumbling something through DIY educational video?.. Are you serious? Gìve him a little appreciation for his efforts to teach us.
Cheers Andy.!
