If you don’t mind showing how to master it properly. I’ve been making mashups for a while but just started DJing and haven’t yet found the sweet spot on how far to allow my master to red line. Sometimes it’s too quiet and sometimes it just sounds really distorted
hey man I am totally new to this and I wanted to ask where do u get those samples from? Like is there some page where I can find instrumental versions of songs or just vocals and so on or you just type it in to google and look for it randomly?
During the mashup, the volume meter in the master channel is red. Does that matter? I know using a limiter would fix this but you advised against using a limiter but does the red mean its unsafe for speakers or something?
This is how I busted my laptop speakers when I first started mixing. I was curious about basically the same thing. Why not use a limiter? I'd think that it would peak way too often, therefore you'd have to reduce the volume of the track. I'm a noob, but if you could explain it'd be appreciated. Thanks for the tutorial!
I find if you don’t put a limiter the track renders low volume. And when you try increasing the volume of individual tracks you clip red. Even when I add a limiter my track is low volume compared to the original file. Any tips?
this was a great help, nothing like learning new tricks in your 40's. I am using ableton to recreate some of my mashups i used to do live using vinyl 20 years ago, however I want to do a bit more with the vocals than just pasting them to a track, as effective this is, do you have any videos on this?
RE: Phase cancellation. It can mean you're doing it right with your acapellas but it can mean you're doing it wrong if your synths or subs are phase cancelling.
Great video! I just started my 90 day free Abelton Live 10 trial today! Obviously I’m not a master yet but it seems to be coming fairly quickly for me. My main struggle is finding a cappella . Is there a way on Abelton to put a song in and separate the vocals from the music so I can use the vocals from song A and beat/instruments from song B? Or do you have any website recommendations for downloads? Thank you!
Thanks so much! Stoked to hear this was helpful and you are on your way producing on ableton! I get my DIY acapella's from digitalmusicpool.com or just search on youtube for them. There is a way to seperate the vocal from the original track. I would look up on youtube something like "How to crate a DIY acapella" Hope that helps! Thank you for subscribing :)
Why when I use "warp from here straight" in some songs it just fucks up the whole song, it somewhat fast forwards it? Anywho, I'm new at this, but i'm just trying to mix some songs i like and learning along the way. Thanks for any help !
Sir, you have a new subscriber! Amazing video! There is not much videos about making a mashups out there (at least not good one). Thanks for sharing this tutorial. I just have one question. I also heard that it's not good to put a limiter on the master channel. But what should I do when it's clipping? Usually it's not clipping during the breakdown but it's clipping during the build up. Sometimes even 2-3db. What am I supposed to do? You also faced some clipping in this tutorial. Is it going to sound distorted once when I bounce it out and play it in the club? Any advice? Thanks in advance! 🙏🏻
Thank you so much for the kind words! For mashups I never use a limiter on the master and just go to ear for levels on the acapella. My process is more detailed for actual productions but I don't spend a lot of time on mashups :)
Loving these tutorials man! I always find a touch of side chain compression on the acapella works wonders too especially if the vocals are over a really busy super saw type breakdown. Let's the instrumental breathe a bit more :)
Anyone on here know if a midi controller helps with making a mash up? I’m just starting out so wondering if a controller is more for speeding things up, which I don’t need yet as I’m still learning. But if it would save some frustration, maybe it’s a good investment.
J-Dub Music cool! That would be awesome! One thing I think might help (me, maybe others too) is making it a bit more textbook. Providing an acapella and an instrumental to download. It’s up to you, you’re the pro, but for me, then I would have something to copy and it just takes away a few frustrating hassles so the focus can be on the exercises (phasing out, eq etc). Just my two cents, either way, I’d be keen. Also looking forward to going to one of your shows. Cheers
That was really good! I really want to do something like two friends do for "Big Bootie Mix". I don't know if you know about it but is insanely good their mashups in the mix.
The warp "compress pro" sounds really bad compared to the "beats" mode. How can I fix that? my songs (and kicks) sounds in low quality when it goes from 126 bpm to 128bpm
When you go 'Complex Pro' - make sure the formants is set to 0.00 / It does smooth the transients a little, I do use 'Beats' mode on some percussion + always kicks when I produce to preserve the transients. I hope that helps answer your question 😊
Dope shit. I wish you did 2 tracks with unmatched keys where you change the keys to fit together or change them both to 1 key.
I wish you the took your time, explaining the stuff you powered through this like everybody’s on your level
alot of it is just being creative and doing what sounds best.
Should I make a 2022 updated tutorial on this? 🤔🔥

2024 version ey?

Search up Digital Music Pool or DJcity 🔥
Please keep going, amazing tuttorial!
Thank you so much! More tutorials are on the way!

Wish you went into the mastering part for quick mashups that add acapellas over drops. You were clipping on your master still at the end
Time for a Part 2 on this? 🤔
Did he ever create a part two for this?
@@musicbyjdub any update on this? I was waiting for you to go over this but you never did! Thanks in advance
Just throw a limiter on the master.
I find if you don’t put a limiter the track renders low volume. And when you try increasing the volume of individual tracks you clip red. Even when I add a limiter my track is low volume compared to the original file. Any tips?
Where did you get this clean vocal from?
I think this one was from literally typing song name + acapella into RUclips 😊
Can't stand EDM, but absolutely awesome video!

How do I place the marker?
@@aalizaewhite9716 Make sure warp is turned on, and then double click
its 3 years ago but its very easy to make a mash up very good can you make a mash up techhouse or techno mash up
RE: Phase cancellation. It can mean you're doing it right with your acapellas but it can mean you're doing it wrong if your synths or subs are phase cancelling.
Spot on!
can this be apply to mash up 2 songs, changing drops and stuff?
Most definitely! As long as they are in the same key
When I drag my song in, I don't get any transient points like this or see that row where the transient points go. Anyone know how I get this active??
Are my mashups good?
i give you a like and a sub
I want to learn more J 🔥🔥🔥
Please if anyone is seeing this can you send a link of the diy acapella please and thank you!
How are you recording the output of Ableton in your screen recording?
It took a lot of testing to get it working but there are some tutorials on it. I did it via Soundflower on mac

Virtual DJ can separate instrumental from accapella,. Or check out AI from Algoriddim neural mix they are pretty cool
I had the same question with a similar situation!
i love your intro
I have no idea what youre talking about transients, whole number etc around 3:00. What is the purpose of this and what does it do?
Transients are the short burst of energy that you hear at the start of any sound. Hopefully that helps! 😊
Thanks for this tutorial for mashups in Ableton 🔥 for Dj’s
hahaha you talk really fast! thanks for the video!
also i exported my track and played it in serato and the song and wave forms were quiet i bounced it out at 16bit can you help us with that please?
So dope
hi guy, u've been so good at this video. Keep it up ^^

heeeaaaaaaaaaa!
Thanks J! Video helped me a lot. Watched through it a few times now to get it down.
I dont know why but when i make mash ups they sound sooo much louder than the original songs and a bit more distorted. nothin is over lapping.
Hey you, I am doing the mashup's from now on, think it's a pretty good way, Thanks for it
Yes super easy. Let me go make a hundred tracks. 😂
Mate this tune is sick
bro what is that intro song??
That's my record "About You" - J-Dub.
Stoked you vibe!

In my experience I would say no. Get good at all your shortcut keys I think would be the best way to fast track!
@J-Dub, thanks so much! You just saved me $400 nzd.

where is hot bummer acapella
Isn't there clipping when adding vocals?
Dope video! I always have so much trouble when warping to the same bpm so I’ll try your method and see how successful I can be
