It's my sincere hope that, you, General Martin Dempsey, read this post. This is also meant for the public at large: it was our honor and privilege to serve you and we, those who have served, say that your 'thanks' means a lot to us, and goes quite a long way with us. Semper Fortis, Semper Fidelis, Semper Paratus, etc., and, so forth. God bless you all.
It's always good to catch the Armed Forces medley on Memorial Day. Where once it was expected that son would follow dad into the service of his choice after high school, today damn few of our youth feel compelled to surrender a few or so years to give back to the country, where so many opportunities are open to them. The remaining youth need to be reminded that there are forces out there who'd destroy their freedom in a heart beat. However, young men and women across the land stepped up, chose to wear the uniform and act as a shield against our foes. As Winston Churchill said of the airmen who defeated the Luftwaffe, "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few."
I totally agree. I plan on following in my dad's footsteps by serving this great country by commissioning into the Air Force in two years. While today's youth are more "entitled", there are still some good ones out there.
Couldn't agree more !!! I ship out for Army basic training next week and I wish that all of our youth would be more willing to serve their country ! Heck if only we had mandatory service now that would benefit everyone !!!
Two comments. First, the draft was a casualty of the Vietnam War. Second, too many bases have closed and too many weapons/weapons systems cost too much for the US to have compulsory service.
shighberg, what's wrong with these marines and their fanboys like you? Always with this arrogant, we're better than anyone else attitude. Show some respect for all branches of the military serving for a common cause.
I can't stop saying this but thank you for your service I am so proud of all of you I don't know you but thank you and may God bless and keep you all safe and come home soon
I love this , Gary Senese I thank you and all the soldiers , sailors and airmen and women who are and have served our country in peacetime and in the wars we have been in ! Thank all of you and God bless America !
I'm pretty sure that right at 2:48, when they sing "...give 'er the gun!" the woman standing and clapping is Colonel Nicole Malachowski, the first woman Thunderbird pilot. If I'm wrong, I think I'm close. She is wearing an Air Force T-Shirt.
Brian Liu, God bless you Mr. Liu, it has been my honor to serve the greatest nation on earth! AMERICA, please enjoy your freedom and God bless you and your family always! OOHRAH
Wonderful introduction by Gary Sinise, and great singing of the services' songs, from an Air Force veteran who served on active duty from 1979 to 1999.
I look forward to this day just like Christmas. I'm young but our armed forces can't be thanked enough. Thank you everyone for your service. GOD BLESS YOU AND GOD BLESS AMERICA!
I'm proud to say I'm a veteran. March 12 1979 to October 1 1997. Mos 19 delta , 19 kilo, 64 charlie. Unfortunately I was critically injured in a non service related accident in 1995 that eventually caused me early retirement medical. God bless our military
My brother and my dad both served in the United States Navy. My brother served aboard the USS Saratoga CV60.and I had the privilege of being given a tour of the great old ship when my sister-in-law and I went to bring him home to see our parents in Maine. I watched the decommissioning of that famous aircraft carrier, and it brought tears to my eyes. She was a mighty vessel and served our country well though she no longer sails the ocean.. We can be so very proud of all our servicemen and the fact they put their lives at risk to keep us safe. God Bless America!!
