9.0L Stroker Viper can't stop spinning on Dyno!!

  • Had a hell of a time keeping the car from spinning. It would hook up and then break loose as we came on the cam. Made some adjustments at the end of the video (haha).
    After we got the tires up to temp and put some weight on it we got 3 back to back pulls in the low 700 range. Highest was 727whp but we threw it out because we could see aberrations on tq (spinning again). I posted the graph from the second in-traction run. Made about 8 pulls total.
    As is, uncorrected numbers in this DA (-550ft) were 722whp / 671wtq. STD correction was 701/650, and SAE was 680/630 🐍🏁
    Modifications:
    Prefix 550ci Billet stroker
    Prefix Ported stock heads
    Prefix "X" Cam
    Belanger Longtubes (catless)
    Corsa Extreme 3" catback
    DSE heat shielding
    IPSCO crank pulley
    Drop in filter
    Car is stock compression (10.5:1), pump 93 fuel. Cam is a moderate grind for perfect street manners and big AVG power.
    I've dynoed the same car, on the same dyno for all 3 setups. Full bolt on (green curve), heads/cam (red curve), 9L stroker (blue curve). I thought it would be great data for the community to have the same car on the same dyno throughout the "big 3" stages.
    Power deltas over bolt ons on pump gas are:
    +85whp / +47wtq (heads/cam)
    +54whp / +89wtq (stroker)
    I have included the uncorrected as-is data to show the deltas between setups on the same car, same dyno. I've also included the SAE corrected numbers in case you want to measure penises over the internet with other cars on other dynos. Keep in mind correction factors attempt linear interpolation on non linear relationships and different dynos can be made to read so wildly differently (with a simple drum weight manipulation) that comparing different cars on different dynos is nearly meaningless.
    I'm super pleased with the new stroker setup, the curve is absolutely beautiful, it's a torque monster making insane avg power 💪

    Now that’s a proper powerband! Gotta love a big-inch, properly tuned naturally aspirated motor! 💪🚀🏎

    This thing had so much torque you might as well idle your way through 6th gear and still be effortlessly faster than most cars around you in the freeway while idling.

    My FBO/Cam 4.6 Mustang made ~360 wheel NA. It's neat that at basically double the displacement w/ similar mods your car makes double the power.

    Not sure why you are spinning on the dyno, my Hellcat made more power and torque down lower than your car did on a 275 pirelli and did not spin?

    • @dilsher12
      @dilsher12 3 года назад +3

      More weight over the rear tires would explain why your Hellcat did not spin . The Viper weighs a lot less and on a dyno you don't get the weight transfer when accelerating on the street.

    • @johndoe4528
      @johndoe4528 3 года назад

      The weight of the car is part of the issue as well as the dyno itself. Some dyno's when they are fairly new can have issue's with bigger power cars spinning because the paint/powder coat creates that issue. Some independent rear suspension cars can also have this issue based on how much negative camber is being used causing less of the tire to actually touch the ground/rollers. The suspension on the Hellcat's is honestly impressive. If you tried to put 600+RWHP to the ground in a 2010-2015 Camaro on a 275 tire it would only be possible with a worked over suspension and a drag prepped setup. The Hellcat does well on the stock tires and is about perfect with nothing more than a drag radial.

    Very nice. It's cool to see someone play with a Viper without going instantly to turbo's. That is a very strong power band. That would be fun roll racing where you and the car next to you lock in 4th gear at say 2,000 rpm and roll on from there.

  • @InTheZone85
    @InTheZone85 3 года назад +1

    one thing very noticeable is how much more torque you have on the low end. Was expecting more whp, but that torque number appears much much higher than stock at low-mid rpms, like twice as high.

      720s makes the exact same power, with better aerodynamics, better gearing, a dual clutch, and 300lbs less weight. No surprises there, hanging with one in this archaic steel chassis dodge is an accomplishment
