They were doing that over 20 years ago, at great peril. That's when many women were executed in the soccer stadium. Women were going to school in secret, meeting in secret to put on makeup and nail polish and trying to find some life and light in that darkness. I hope there is not backlash for this report and that CBS was careful. It will not be good for them if discovered.

You are right. These reports do not care they just want a story. They want us to go back to Afghanistan. We already tried that for 20+ years.

Please don't fall for this. Our country was in Afghanistan for 20+ years. As soon as our troops left Isis took over again. That tells me 2 things happened. 1 the US military never trained their soldiers like they said they did. 2 They tricked our military and most of them were Isis we trained.
We have the best military in the world. There is no way we trained them for 20 years and gave up the way they did. Our education system is well below average even in rich areas of the country.

It's a problem. The 14th century butting heads with the 21st century.
Culture includes language, and religion. But Culture will change from generation to generation. Now we have a modern world with pockets of regressive cultures. Are they wrong? There are issues of the break down of society when traditional roles are broken.
A modern society does seek to educate women. But that comes with repercussions. For one, educated women are often more aware of their place in the world and less dependent on a male guardian like a father or husband. This independence also changes the women's expectation of her own life.
For one, she will want to pursue a career outside of the home. Two, she may delay or even forgo marriage and three, she may delay, reduce or forgo child bearing. It's her body? It's her life?
Yet in America the Rowe V Wade decision was reversed by the now conservative US Supreme Court. Why? Is there a hand in the government in America, some kind of conservative Evangelical Christian missionary zeal to make America in their own ideals based on some rigid interpretations of the Bible?
Is the Taliban any different than Evangelical Christians or Hasidic Jews or CCP Party members?
It's dogma, and beliefs that are guiding powerful people and groups to usurp personal freedom not just in Afghanistan.

What I find really abhorrent is the retaliation acts of violence.
I have watched the news from time to time. It usually comes from some 3rd World ultra conservative country like Pakistan, Afghanistan, or even India. The acts of violence perpetrated by men or even younger teenage boys against girls and women.
The rejections reprisals I find the most disturbing. A boy maybe 15 or 16, wants a particular girl from his neighborhood to marry. He makes his intentions known at some time, maybe a few months of watching and waiting. But she declines, maybe she is too young or she also has other plans for herself beside being a teenage mother.
Then one day he walks up to her maybe outside of school on in the street by her house and produces a jar of acid and splashes her head and face with acid. She of course begins to feel the intense burning pain.
Then when she is rushed to hospital and the grotesque disfigurement is revealed. Whole parts of her face are distorted and burned, scalp burned and hair gone. She is reduced from a healthy, young intelligent and beautiful young girl into a tormented and twisted wreckage of a face that bears permanent scars and she may have lost vision or hearing or lips or nose. She is in pain and suffers and can't even go out for fear of the taunting and disgust cast upon her.
And even worse now, she is unwanted and a burden to her family. Even her father or brothers look upon her as an embarrassment, a curse upon the whole family. She has brought dishonor to them all. She is unwanted and unloved and might be cast away to the streets to beg or to a brothel to be beaten and sexually exploited for small coins.
Her life is over and she wishes to die.
This is such the power Men still have over Women. The Traditional World of ancient cultures and Patriarchy and rigid and dogmatic religious beliefs bordering on superstition and witchcraft.
This still exists now in the modern time. Imagine that.
