I took Norm's comments with a pinch of salt about him being one of the best to step foot in the store, but he wasn't lying! Killer player, I hear a lot of Django in him, but with four working fingers
Me, the Wife and Kids went out to Colorado and stayed at the Stanley Hotel. I was writing a book and started to go crazy and imagined Frank Stallone was the bartender.
Jonathan Stout coming in and playing the swing music was awesome! Norm you bring just pure talent into the shop and every day I get to enjoy a little free concert at Norm's rare guitars right into my living room. Imagine that?
I've been watching videos from Norm's Rare Guitars for over seven years now, and this guy (Jonathan Stout), with few exceptions is by far the most talented guitarist around.
“Man-size body” Absolute freaking unit right there, but I guess it HAS to big to be able to house an entire time machine inside- it sounded just the way I imagine the 1930s sounding. Great playing!
Excellent guitar playing!!!! So good to hear Swing playing because the picking is so intricate so you have to be really good to play this style for sure! Thanks for posting this.
So grateful for what Jonathan does - that style needs to live on and he is the standard bearer. That tune just NAILS the best of it and I don't think I've seen THAT much binding on a guitar since :-)
Wow! Lol - he went from Metallica and Slayer to playing some real guitar. Not everyone could do that. Great song. Wonderful Epiphone! Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful playing! A friend sent me this because I've got a 1935 Epiphone Spartan which is a smaller version of that guitar but it still has a huge sound. It really works amazingly for that kind of style.
In 2004, me and my girlfriend at the time, were staying at the Yellowstone Lake Hotel, in Yellowstone, Wyoming. We had a fancy dinner and lots of cocktails. After dinner was over, a small band started setting up and played this '30's nostalgia in that beautiful old hotel that began construction in the 1890's. One for the memory banks for sure. ruclips.net/video/q4HqIdbfoEY/видео.html The fancy smaller dining room is upstairs and has a large piano.
A great player, but I wouldn't say "unique," as his style is very closely modeled after that of Allan Reuss, whose heyday was the '30's and '40's. It just sounds unique in the surroundings of the music of today.
@@EdKirkpatrick10 It's great that you're interested! You might want to check out Jonathan's channel, which has a load of videos of him playing in this style, along with some excellent tutorials: ruclips.net/channel/UC4zBo6gOZrb9S3H5NnCg-3w If you want to hear what Allan Reuss sounds like, I have a playlist of his chordal solos and swing rhythm with a variety of big bands and small combos from the '30's and '40's: ruclips.net/p/PLfD8BaHJ530GWghTxe-9DDYvE69ZWhxEA
Displaying all these great players may backfire on you. I am discovering that I suck as a guitar player. Is that how you guys get all of your vintage instruments back?
His picking hand is magical! So smooth it looks faked!

@@NoOne-kr4jc most of norm's audience only know django.
@@peterchoe Yeah.
this guy is ridiculously good. those chord voicing with the melody are a pain in the ass on guitar. especially when swing to a rhythm
Fabulous player, preserving an art form.

After hearing that, I'm not sure anyone else could ever do that guitar justice. Wow!

I love seeing this guy come in the store! Great playing!

Yep, I had a '54 Regent Deluxe strung with 13's and it would sound like a grand piano when you played a full chord, a fantastic instrument!
Hard to believe how good these guitars sound for that era of technology
Ouch!!! So good!

The great ones always make it look effortless. Dave Mathews makes playing a G chord look like passing a kidney stone.
Great stuff. Great musician. Love to hear a player who can bring out the best in those big bodied arch top guitars.
J Dove UGA football sucks dick
Insane Shane
GET LOST LOSER
Hammet could use a little time with this guy now.
