  • This week we enjoyed a wonderful SUP on Buttermere in the Lake District! We had arrived with our paddle boards in the morning and planned to do a loop of Buttermere before brunch. The calm waters and stunning scenery made for a beautiful paddle and we even bumped into a film crew along the way.
    The Lake District has many beautiful places to Stand Up Paddle Board and I look forward to being able to take you along on more paddling adventures. If you have any ideas as to where I should explore next I'd love to hear them in the comments below.
    Thank you so much for watching, have a great week and hopefully see you all on the next adventure, until then happy wandering :)

    Went paddleboarding first time last week, Windermere on Tuesday, fell in four or five times until I was able to stand up good, had a good five hours gliding about, really enjoyed it... Went Ullswater the next day, hated every second... The wind was up enough I couldn't paddle stood up as I was acting like a sail, water was choppy with little rolling waves I couldn't get used to, we had to paddle pack to our start point on our knees, it took ages, top of my toes were grated, cramps in my feet, even my knees started feeling bruised and numb from lack of blood flow, was aching from the day before, you know, using new muscles, so yeah, the second day sucked... Annoying even more was the next day was calmer than the first day, it would have been perfect.
    So note to self in future, don't do two days in a row unless it's great weather and don't even think about going in in windy weather.

      Sounds like you had dreamy conditions on your first outing, least the water at the moment is warm enough that falling in you can dry out quick! Sure sounds like you got the hang of it though pretty quickly! Sorry to hear your second day wasn't as smooth, seems like it was quite a mission to get back against the waves. Hope you've been out since or got plans to when the conditions are good again!

      @@TheGirlGoneNomad Lol, sure makes you stand up quick when every dunk comes with the dreaded wind chill across the front side...
      A neoprene vest on underneath and a quick wind check next year for sure, but, my board is coming with me in future years definitely.

    Love this! I’m settling down now, lived in Oz for 2 years driving half way around living in a 4x4, moved to NZ for 2 years and lived in Canada for 4 years. I’ve just returned home and learning how to love England again. Mini brakes keep me sane but my heart aches for the road, the unknown, wilderness and adventure. My brother took me to the lakes recently and I was very happy. Love countryside, kind people and nature. I’m purchasing my first board to mix up with wild camping and find solitude when I’m not caged in my office.
    Stay safe and keep up your adventure! Subbed! Ash

      @@TheGirlGoneNomad I'm only doing a lake every now and then so not that challenging!! I like the South end of Derwent water - you can go a little way along the river Derwent into Borrowdale (gets very shallow in places!) and then back along the shore below Cat Bells is beautiful. Around Peel Island on Coniston Water (Swallows & Amazons territory!) and the Patterdale end of Ullswater are beautiful to. Windermere is too busy for me, with too much boat traffic. Definitely doing Buttermere next!

      @TheGirlGoneNomad  2 года назад

      Hi Matt, thank you for your kind comments, really glad you enjoyed this adventure! I am a relatively trusting person, and will leave my bag on the shore, particularly when it's quiet. I always carry any valuables in a dry bag on the board and there is nothing in the bag but the pump. However I can fit that and the bag in a dry bag on the board if I am doing a one way trip. Otherwise most of the time the car is not too far away to return the bag to before a paddle. Hope this is of some help! 😊

    I have just bought an inflatable paddle board, which I have tried out twice so far, with great success.
    The only problem, is carrying the board to the launch site (the North Sea)
    Although the board isn’t particularly heavy, it is a bit awkward to carry.
    I’ve been looking online for carrying straps and there are a few, ranging in price from less than a tenner, to some much more expensive... they seems too good to be true.
    Have you used straps to carry your SUP .. if so, which one did you buy ?

    • @TheGirlGoneNomad
      @TheGirlGoneNomad  2 года назад

      Hi Brian, glad to hear you are enjoying your time out on the water, the North East coast has some truly beautiful spots, I loved the Northumberland Coastline. Ah yes they can be a bit cumbersome with their size, particular if you have a bit of a way to the water. I don't personally have a strap, but would probably go for something from Northcore or the like. Though I'd say the £9.99 option from Decathlon would probably do just as good a job.

      @@TheGirlGoneNomad Thanks for your reply and suggestions. I actually bought a SUP strap from LOMO. On their website for £7.99, so not a bad price at all. Better still, my mate bought one too, so we could share postage. Worked out at less than a tenner each. Soooo much easier to carry now. Only one more problem .. the North Sea is freezing.

      @@brianmorrison9168 Ah great find and an absolute bargain! Always good when you can share postage. Glad to hear they are working well for you, I might be tempted to invest in one myself. Ah I can imagine, the North Sea is not know for being tropical 😊Are you still paddling in wetsuits? I think the lakes are warming slightly but still not warm!

    • @brianmorrison9168
      @brianmorrison9168 2 года назад +1

      @@TheGirlGoneNomad Thanks, certainly worth considering the strap.
      I did look at the Decathlon one, but some reviews mentioned dye coming off and staining the board .. so I decided against that particular strap. My mate said LOMO are a well known brand, which is why we went for their strap.
      Yes, still wearing a wetsuit .. don't really think the sea here is really ever that warm. but I suppose as I get better, the chance of falling gets less, so we'll see how it goes, when summer arrives.
