Great video! I didn't wait for this update in order to use the Mic Adapter. I bought the Media Mod so I could start using an external microphone. What I like most about the Media Mod is that it is less cumbersome when I do how to videos without the Mic Adapter dangling in the way. I still use the Mic Adapter and attach it to my helmet when I do motovlogs.

Hey, I have this same set-up, but my playback has a low white noise in the background using the cable that comes with the Rode VideoMicro with the 2 black bands on each end connector. Do I need a different cable to get clearer audio?

Great information on the firmware update. It always amazes me how concerned people are with getting improved audio out an action camera, but I'm glad GoPro is playing attention and doing what it can to make it sound better. I've never used an external mic with an action camera.
I went for a two-hour test ride with my Hero 9 (V1.5) and 3.5mm Mic Adaptor... the camera stopped recording from the adapter in the first two minutes of the video and continued recording with the internal mics! After more testing I have found about 10% of the time, the camera either doesn't recognise the adapter, or freezes, or recognises it for a while and then forgets that the adapter is attached. I just can't trust it, sadly. I'm told by a GoPro Support rep that *another* software update is coming sometime soon (without an ETA) but I'm not sure if the guy I spoke to in Support knew what he was talking about to be honest (he kept trying to tell me that 1.22 was the latest version).
I have quick question. After you connect this old school GP mic adapter do you have to adjust any settings if you want to record with external mic or you can just hit record and GP will recognize external mic automatically and start recording from external mic? I try to use GP in motorcycle set up so I cant fiddle with settings each time I hit record. Please let me know.
It is crazy that they have sorted the external mic but still have unusable audio through the main mics. Im on my 4th replacement as are many others. I'm moving away from GoPro after 5 years. Dissapointed to say the least.
Audio is usable with the external adapter. But internal audio is still unusable with the pops and clicks still remaining.. It seems like they have a baked in Hardware issue that they cant fix. We will have to wait to the Hero 10 to be able to have usable internal audio.. or they do a world wide recall. Also the touch screen is now usable.. It wasnt prior..

I wish there wasn't a need for a mic adapter at all and you could plug straight into the Gopro. Seems a bit crazy this isn't possible in 2020. I look forward to your review on the remote.
I know the mic adapter is older, but why do camera companies think people don’t want small adapter or ideally built in mic jacks? I know they want to sell more MOD and adapters, but for me it is one of the reason I have not purchased the GoPro. I do not want a pocket full of adapters when the could have just added a 3.5mm jack and made a better product.

My GoPro hero 9 with 3.5mm adapter and TTRS works about 1/10 tries. I don't understand it. I have the lastest 1.5 update as well Everything is connected and with mic adapter is plugged the GoPro recognizes it under MOD it says Standard Mic
Is the audio also popping with the adapter? I already have 2 GoPro 9’s with the very annoying popping sound issue, didn’t get solved with the FW 1.5 update.
On my gopro 5 i always have issues with the external mic whenever I use quick capture. Whenever im not using quick capture it works fine. Does the gopro 9 have this same issue? Thanks so much for all your videos they really help a ton
Good video. So annoying they took 6 months for this to be an option. As a fishing RUclipsr, wind is inevitable and it's made some of my GoPro footage almost unbearable audio wise because the "wind" filter built in doesn't stop 15mph wind noise.
I have a GoPro Max which works fine with the existing smart remote, I am concerned that if I upgrade to this latest firmware then it will disable connecting to my remote and only allow the new remote to connect to my Max.
@@AirPhotography Well you know what happened with the Hero 9 when it was first released, the external mic adapter was available but as soon as the first firmware was done it disappeared as a menu option! Afraid the same will happen with the smart remote! Think i will hang fire on installing this update until i see it confirmed... not sure i trust gopro!
Ride video micro Is my favorite microphone for gopros and even my iPhone. Oh my RUclips videos are recorded with one. There’s a link to it down in the description of this video. It’s a good quality Mic At a reasonable price and not too big where it may appear in your GoPro frame
I can’t get the mic to work. My GoPro is updated to 1.6. I turn my camera off plug everything in and turn it on and I still get no sound? I can’t figure it out?

Yes that would be ideal. Hopefully they follow how DJI has done it with the pocket 2 And offer a wireless solution

I updated my gopro hero 9 and I made three videos perfect and then all the videos after were nothing but static. I was really disappointed.

I see that unfortunately not available in other countries except for US for now. If I switch to the Canadian site it disappears
