Ms. Heap has invented more than a few voice modulation devices. Ariana Grandé used one on stage, recently. ♡

Jason Derulo sampled Hide and Seek for one of his songs. That’s probably why it’s familiar.

You got a good ear man. She used something called a harmonizer. It's basically a realtime sampler for your voice that you can play with a keyboard. It's similar to a vocoder, but it soley uses the human voice rather than a synth for the base sound.

I remember the chorus to this song was used in a loop in a Lonely Island film short in the mid 2000s called "Dear Sister". It was also used before that on the show "The OC."

Dear Sister was directly making fun of that scene in The OC

I've seen her live a couple of times and it's really interesting to watch her on stage. When I saw her at Coachella she was completely by herself using all this technology to make all of the sounds at the same time. Super creative lady and captivating live show.

Imogen Heap is a super creative artist. Loved her work with Frou Frou and as a solo artist

If i recall correctly i believe Imogen did in fact process her own vocals with a Digitech Vocalist Harmoniser.
Nowadays you can get a very similar vocal effect with an iZotope Polyvox plugin. But yeah she produces her own stuff and is an incredibly talented producer.

I firmly believe that cloud rap would not exist without Imogen Heap.
Jason Derulo sampled that familiar part for Watcha Say for a sort of his side of the breakup story this song tells. It's about a cheating boyfriend who doesn't care about her but is trying to lie to her to keep her, i like both versions for completing the picture

The familiar part is taken taken from another song of hers, WATCHYA SAY. I've heard a Drum 'n' Bass mix of that song, it's pretty cool.

I’m sure it’s already been answered somewhere but the reason the chorus sounds so familiar is because it’s been sampled/butchered by a bunch of shitty rappers and hip hop artists

    • @killerbtwd
      @killerbtwd 8 месяцев назад

The “Whatcha say” line isn’t the chorus, “hide and seek” is. That’s just the most popular part of this song which is used for a chorus in Jason Derulo same titled song “Whatcha say”

Its familiar because one boring song had a sample of it and somehow still sucked, I don't remember the name, cuz its sucked.

  • @tomradford737

Its literally just her voice and a vocoder man. The song is fuckin genius!
Basically the vocoder plays all the chords of the song via her voice but ye you're right it isnt auto tune or a talkbox. I probably wouldn't be able to explain how a vocoder in works properly even though i think i do! Haha
But give it a Google, you'll be surprised how much they're actually used in music :)
