One thing that always amazed me about this song is how she's able to make both incredibly delicate moments and eye-wideningly massive crescendos with only her voice and a vocoder.

I love Imogen Heap, she’s a very experimental artist. This song is completely acapella but some of the vocal layers have vocoder to have a robotic effect.
She was in a group called Frou Frou earlier in her career. I recommend listening to their song Let Go. Thanks!

This is one of the best songs of all time. It's absolutely heartbreaking

The effect creates the sense of distance from who she's addressing. And provides this sort of heavenly yet still self ambiguous form to the lyrics and presentation.

I absolutely love Imogen Heap. She is best known for her gloves that is wired electronically into her computer, which can cause some amazing effects just with the movements of her hands. My favorite version of this song was from her Tiny Desk concert which she used her gloves to make a full 250-piece orchestra just with her voice and her hands.

Speak for Yourself is one of the best albums of all time. Everything is a banger, unique, and ahead of it's time if you're into electronic music.

She is from the UK. I remember hearing it years ago while putting up Christmas decorations. It was so unique we stopped what we were doing to really soak it up. It was a nice break for us from things like punk rock and Buckethead. Thanks guys.
    I hope you get to-
Amyl and the Sniffers-control. Live at Croxton. A new song with a 70s sound. Her hair doo is pretty 70s too😂

Thank you for this information. We have the other suggestion on our list. but we are running behind on our line-up. We sure will be glad when Grandma Wanda can retire from her full time job and we can react to more songs every day. Thanks again for all your great suggestions.

My favorite part of this song is the lyrics. She experiments with sounds a lot. She is a solo artist but was in a duo called frou frou

Its the perspective of a young child experiencing their parents splitting up while all the adults are pretending its not a huge deal for the childs sake even though everything the child thought thought was permanent is now gone, thus adding to loneliness.

That was interesting and worth watching. Don't recall hearing it before, although the name seems vaguely familiar.

Great song. My favorite version is the live version on the Mahogany channel. They have a full choir and it’s in a huge church and it’s hauntingly beautiful.

She wrote and recorded this in under an hour. She was just playing around manipulating her voice through a keyboard.
