Finally, a YT video that talks about timing for using the device after the workout. Great vid, very thorough
Glad you found it helpful! Yes, the faster you get them on post-workout, the better!!!
Peace of mind. Will be ordering mine. Thank you.
"what's cracking" lol chiropractic humor wow. I knew I was gonna like this video.
Great information! Can’t wait to try these!
Thanks Amber! They will be waiting for you after your next “leg day.”
Very clear! Thanks 👍
Thanks for watching and the nice comment!
Excellent explanation, thank you.
Thank you Ivonne. Glad you liked it! 👍🏻
I bought Normatec 3 for my RLS but unfortunately they didn't help. But keep them because they are nice to wear after a run. Can run every day, sometimes 2 times a day, with no minor problems at all.
Love it!!
Thanks Jennifer P! Byyyeeee.
Great video , I'm playing competetive soccer twice a week , along with skateboarding.. 44 years old. I think this is going to be ideal for my lifestyle..
They definitely help my old body recover!
Wow I just found this channel how the hell doesn’t this cat have 50k subscribers? This is high level content
I completely agree!!! Thanks for watching and your kind words!
Lars Ramirez- I just bought the whole body 2.0 NormaTec unit, lower leg pain for the last two weeks, gone after 30 minutes last night. Worth every penny. Don’t know how to Bluetooth this though. Senior not tech savvy.
I'm glad you've seen so much improvement in your leg pain! Great to hear!
Thanks for the video. I like the explanation and recommendation of using them close to post workouts. Do you recommend a massage gun before or after the boots? What kind of timing?
A massage gun would be great to use before using the boots. I prefer percussive massagers such as the Hypervolt. As far as timing, I'd experiment and see what works best for you and your schedule. I've done about 10 minutes of percussive massage and 30 minutes of compression with the boots and have had good results.
Great video, thanks! May I ask what you use to clean between patients?!
Thanks for watching! We use a disinfectant spray and wipes to clean the boots after each patient.
Great video! Can you go over the specific differences between the pulse 2.0 and pulse pro 2.0
Hi Robert, glad you enjoyed the video.
The Pulse comes pre-programmed with the recovery flush mode. You can customize the pressure and treatment time for the entire extremity but not for individual zones. Additionally, you can utilize the zone boost feature to add 60 seconds additional time and 10% more pressure to any one zone. Otherwise, it’s pretty straight forward and really optimized for general recovery and maximum cycles through the extremity for any given treatment time.
The Pro model has everything the Pulse has, but in addition has several pre-programmed rehab modes that you can select to change the treatment time in different zones. For example, if you have a knee injury, you can select the Knee Rehab treatment, which will change from the default 30 seconds of treatment time per zone to 2.5 minutes on the knee and lower quad and 1 minute on the upper quad. You can also fully customize the treatment using the Custom Mode which lets you dictate the pressure and treatment time for each zone. Beyond that, the Pro has a sleeker user interface with a touch screen making it easier to change modes, attachments, etc. Overall, the Pro is really Normatec’s clinically designed model which gives doctors and rehab centers the granularity needed to treat a variety of patients and injuries.
Hope this helps clear up the differences!
Couple of questions: How do we know how much pressure (mmHg) we should use when using the Normatec to reap benefits? Can an individual select specific pressure on the unit or are the pressures fixed?
Normatec Pulse has 7 levels of pressure based on the amount of pressure desired. I do not know the specific mmHg of each level is but 1 is the lightest and 7 is the most pressure. The higher the level, the more compression. The Pulse comes pre-programmed with the recovery flush mode. You can customize the pressure (levels 1-7) and treatment time for the entire extremity but not for individual zones. You can also utilize the zone boost feature to add 60 seconds additional time and 10% more pressure to any one zone. Otherwise, it’s pretty straight forward and really optimized for general recovery.
Normatec also has a "Pro" model has everything the Pulse has, but in addition has several pre-programmed rehab modes that you can select to change the treatment time in different zones. So pretty much the "Pulse" model is good for general revovery while the "Pro" model allows more for rehab protocols. I hope this helps!
Dr. Brandon Nevel Thank you very much! This information definitely does help!
Hello! I want to know if this can be used for lymphedema in legs. I have this problem and I am interested in purchasing it. Could u pls help me out with me?
Yes, I’ve used Normatec compression boots in my office for patients with lower extremity lymphedema.
Would this be a good system to help me with IT Band issues? I'm a runner and have really struggled for years with IT pain. Please let me know. If this could help with it, it would be a game changer for me.
Compression boots can be used as a tool for IT band syndrome but would recommend other therapies to help in conjunction. I treat IT issues with a variety of techniques including glute and hip stabilization exercises, Graston myofacial release, laser therapy, extremity chiropractic adjustments, and foot orthotics if applicable. The compression boots help with recovery and healing but I do not recommend them as your only tool. Good luck!
Thanks
@@sambutta You’re welcome.
Hi, i play soccer and i would love to buy these, but my question is, does these target the groin area?
The boots will get partial recovery of the groin but you need the hip attachment as well if you want to get full recovery of the groin.

Good quick video, but would question the statement "lactic acid' causes or contributes to DOMS. Lactate is out of the system after a person works out within roughly 30 minutes. DOMS is a delayed "D" of the DOMS acronym and stars 2 and 3 days after workout. Microtraumas, I totally agree with. Just might want to double check the source about lactic acid. :-) love the "Ginger Ninja" name .. great marketing :-)
You are absolutely correct, lactic acid is out of the muscles within 30-45 minutes after a workout. We still don’t fully understand what “causes” DOMS but as I understand, there are 6 theories: lactic acid, muscle spasm, connective tissue damage (myofascial), muscle damage, inflammation and the enzyme efflux theories. However, an integration of two or more theories is likely to explain the muscle soreness with DOMS. I agree with you and personally think micro trauma and inflammation from eccentric muscle contraction contributes the most. Thanks for your comment and keeping me honest!
Hi Doc. I practice in California and am curious if/how you use these in your office. I could see it being used in office for athletic patients and patients with extremity pains. Has it worked well for you?
Hi doc, thanks for the question. We use them for ankles and knee issues that have a lot of edema associated with them. Some of my patients that are high-level athletes come in and use them after a hard workout. If they love them, they sometimes buy a pair for themselves for home use.
@@DrBrandonNevel Thanks for your answer to my questions...I appreciate that. Best to you...
I am a C2 Quadriplegic and was an Asia A and now I am an Asia B. I have alot of nerve pain but I do have feeling from my chest down. I cannot walk. My calves are starting to atrophy. I have feeling from my chest down. I have severe cold Severe cold and hot nerve pain in my arms. I went through Craig Hospital 5 years ago. Do you think these would benefit at all?
When I'm in my Chair I swell and they turn purple.
My Spinal cord was never severed. I had a partial knee replacement 5 yrs ago. 10 days later I collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. My SCI was from an infection that caused a Cyst and put pressure on my Spinal Cord which led to my spinal cord filling with pus
Long story short... became paralyzed from the neck down. I was given a 1% chance to make it thru the sx. Well I beat all odds. I was told I would never breathe on my own, and I do😊
I was trached, vented on a puff and sip power chair.
Wow. I’m sorry this happened but congratulations on beating the odds! If your legs swell and turn purple when in your chair, then compression boots may help with some of those symptoms. I would recommend you check with your surgeon and/or physical therapist.
Does this come in one size I’m 6’5 so I’m wondering? There’s certain modes that target the knees and calf’s so I’m wondering if it the normal size will work.
Hi Dr. Dickinson, Normatec has a "tall" size boot for those that are taller than 6'3, so that would be the best option for you! They also have a power width tall boot for those that have a larger thigh circumference. The normal tall boot will fit a 30" thigh circumference. Hope that helps!!!
Awesome video! Will this help with my achilles tendon & osterior tubular tendonitis? Thank you for the video!
Thank you. Do you mean posterior tibial tendinitis?
@@DrBrandonNevel Yes that's what I meant. Sorry, I've never experienced this type of pain and was having trouble typing it and figuring out what it's called.
@@MartinNounaRealEstate While compression boots can help with some swelling and inflammation, they won’t correct the underlying problem. Achilles tendinosis and posterior tibial tendon dysfunction usually respond well with a combination of physical therapy, chiropractic joint mobilization, laser treatment, and foot orthotics. Compression boots can be used as an adjunct therapy but won’t fix the problem by itself. Hope this helps!
@@DrBrandonNevel You're amazing. Thank you so much for the responses, helps a lot!
@@MartinNounaRealEstate Happy to help! Good luck!
I’m going to have acl reconstruction surgery. Will these boots help reduce swelling and speed up recovery?
The boots will help with post surgical swelling but I recommend using a compression with ice machine such as a Game Ready during the post surgical recovery.
This might be a stretch but, what are the chances this product or one like it would help with Peripheral neuropathy?
Research is still coming out on compression therapy for different conditions. Sequential compression therapy appear to be helpful in diabetic peripheral neuropathy:

Awesome video. Would these benefit nurses after a 12 hour shift? Thank you 🙏🏼
Absolutely. They help me after I’m on my feet all day with patients.
This solution for crew of cruise line after work 12 hour
Thanks! Any thoughts on therabody recovery air vs pro?
I’m not familiar with Therabody’s compression boots. I’d love to review the air vs pro eventually.
Hi Dr. Brandon, I have a pair of these boots, but sometimes when i use this, I feel cramps in my legs. Any ideas why that may be the case and any solutions? Thanks!
Which part of your legs cramp?
Lack of fresh oxygen supply to muscle? Maybe it's too much compression or using too long.
I’ve been thinking about getting one due to shin splints. Would this help with shin splints?
Normatec boots will help with recovery after exercise and can help with shin splints by adding compression to squeeze any edema out of the the lower leg. However, I don't think the boots will heal your shin splints by themselves. To correct shin splints, you need to address the underlying cause. I'd recommend see a qualified sport chiro and/or physical therapist. Patients with shin splints often respond well with soft tissue treatments, extremity chiropractic adjustments, and orthotics to correct foot biomechanics and any overpronation of the foot. Good luck!
Hi doc , great video , I’m in an active job in construction and I suffer with restless legs and constantly have tired legs and twitch in bed , would these help ?
Hi Thomas, pneumatic compression devices such as Normatec boots have been found to help with Restless Leg Syndrome. Please see the attached study:
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19017878/
Each person is different so I would consult your doctor for your specific case.
Awesome video, what do you recommend for mmhg and pause settings. Thank you
With the Pulse 2.0, the mm Hg and pause settings are built in and you just choose level 1-7. For beginners, I recommend starting at a low level and then increasing based on your comfort.
@@DrBrandonNevel I have the therabody recovery air. Lol the have settings for mmhg and hold times.
@@georgesmigiel4548 I’m not familiar with their system. If I ever get a pair, I’ll review them and make a video about it.
If you are struggling from injury is it useful to use normartec recovery boots?
The Normatec boots can help add compression for injury recovery, especially if there is any edema and swelling associated with the injury.
Hello Doctor Brandon, I played badminton a lot for many years and as I get older, I do a lot of self myofascial release, and I feel my legs won't really recover fully from those activities. I even have knee pain now. I'm now going 57. And this self myofascial release is using much of my time. Will this gadget help in my situation?
Recovery boots will help with your muscles recover after playing badminton. I’m not sure of the cause of your knee pain but the boots may help with that as well.
@@DrBrandonNevel Thank you 😊
Does anybody know if this product is only for athletes? I have been very ill for ten years, and spent most of the last three years laying down or sitting in bed. My legs are obviously very weak and sore. I was wondering if this would help me rebuild my legs now that I am finally getting better. Please let me know!
Compression boots are not only for athletes. Compression can help with a variety of conditions such as poor blood flow back to the heart, often creating swelling in the lower legs and ankles at the end of the day. As you start strengthening your legs, the compression can help the daily recovery so you’re not so sore the next day.
Dr. Brandon Nevel okay thank you for responding so quickly I appreciate it. So are you saying, it would only help after I start walking and such again? I was wondering if it would be useful now while I’m still recovering. But my legs are getting almost no movement each day, because I was in pain (I have Crohn’s disease) so they are extremely weak as I haven’t been able to walk, or sit, for almost two weeks. I’m looking for something that would like, massage the legs almost, so that it would restore the circulation. I have had times where while in the washroom, my leg has gone completely numb and my only choice was to crawl because I had no feeling up into my quad. Is this for that, or if you have a recommendation for what I’m looking for please let me know, thank you
@@pdubcentral Compression boots help with circulation but I recommend you see a doctor to evaluate the cause of the leg numbness. Leg weakness and numbness can be caused by many things included pinched nerves in your back.
Hi
I use it yesterday I went to a recovery center and they put the boots and toward the middle my shins started to hurt and it didn’t feel good . Do you guys know why...
Anything helps
The pressure may have been too high but I’m a big believer in listening to the body. If the pain continues, I would notify the recovery center and see if anything can be altered or you may need to discontinue use. Good luck!
Great thank you for the information..
I had hip replacement surgery on 12/26/23. The NormaTec boots seem as though they might help the recovery process. Are you familiar with anyone who's used them after hip replacement?
You can use the boots after surgery to help with circulation, but you have to be careful about the incision site. I would not recommend using the compression boots or hip compression sleeves until you consult your orthopedic surgeon or physical therapist and get clearance. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
I have cerebral palsy. I’m in my 50’s I’m experiencing a lot of weakness and pain in my lower extremities do you believe this could give me relief? I’m in weakness and pain daily. I do not have insurance so I cannot go to PT
I'm not sure if compression boots will help. Compression boots have been found to help with pain but can't find any research on compression for CP patients. I would recommend finding a gym or recovery center where you can try them for 15-30 minutes at a time. If you find they help, purchasing a pain might be beneficial.
I have arthritis in the left ankle. Can that help me out with the arthritis?
The boots can help with swelling of an osteoarthritic ankle by using compression. It can also help with fluid movement of the legs to improve circulation to arthritic joints.
Does this help yield more range of motion of the knee?
Depending on what’s limiting the range of motion. If the range of motion is limited due to excess fluid and inflammation, then the boots should help.
Bursitis does it help bursitis in the supra part of the knee
if I use it every day will I see an improvement or my body will get used to and I will not see any change?
You should see an improvement. I don't know of any studies or any complaints of people reporting they saw reduced benefits with daily use.
Would this do anything for gout attacks and foot swelling?
They help with foot swelling but I would not recommend them for gout attacks.
Hello, how long do we leave the boots on for?
I usually use them 15-30 minutes. The longer you use them, the more cycles they go through to flush out your legs.
How does the Normatech compare to the Leg Compression System by Vive Health?
I have not personally used the Vive compression system. Looking it up, it appears to have less compression zones (4 zones versus 7 zones) and doesn’t go up to the upper thigh area like the Normatec system does.
@@DrBrandonNevel Thanks Dr. Neval. I appreciate the information!
HI! How often can this device be used? Is it safe to use daily?
You can use the boots daily or even multiple times per day.
for how long should you use them and also how much pressure should you use ?
Length of time can vary but I usually use them about 30 minutes for myself and many of my patients. Compression pressure is based on personal preference.
@@DrBrandonNevel thank you 🙏
I’m only here because of LeBron! I’m kinda inspired by and wanna replicate his routine, with the Hyperbaric chamber, normatec, etc. and this is the most affordable part of it!
LeBron has an incredible training and recovery routine, hence why he has had such a long and healthy career.
Me too wtf, now that’s marketing
Would you recommend this for someone with neurothapy
Yes, since compression boots aid with circulation of fresh blood cells to the nerves, they are thought to help with most types of neuropathy.
Will it help with nerve damage?
It’s possible but depends on the cause of the nerve damage. For instance, compression boots can help with neuropathy secondary to conditions such as diabetes.
Great video!! Was wonder, is there any population that shouldn’t use the this kind of recovery tool? Anyone with blood clot factors, people who take aspirin or anything of that nature?
Thank you. Good question... according to Medicare, there are few relative contraindications for the use of pneumatic compression boots; they include serious arterial insufficiency, edema due to congestive heart failure, active phlebitis, deep vein thrombosis (blood clots) or the presence of localized wound infection or cellulitis.
Thank you sir, I greatly appreciate the information!!
I have to-the-knee compression boots. One day while using both, the left one squeezed SO tight on the top of my foot. That area felt strange a couple days then got really tight and swollen. I dealt with the swelling but the intense tightness across the top of my foot has persisted for weeks. Stretching didn't feel safe the first couple weeks, like something would snap. Now I stretch it often which helps, but tightness comes back every day.
I haven’t heard of this happening. What brand of compression boots do you have? I’d contact the company and see if this is a known issue.
Hey I’m 5’6 what size would be a good fit for me ?
The standard size should work for you.

Sorry to hear that. I'm not familiar with their compression boots and the sizing.
I've seen so many brands of compression boots in Amazon
Yes, there are many brands. I'm only familiar with Normatec since I use them in my practice and for myself as well.

Normatec makes different size boots based on your height or leg width. Various length boots comes in short (
Hi, after running i always have verry sore legs the days after. Im not able to run again after 2 rest days. Also my tibia dorsi muscle feels verry stressed combinet with my ankel. Will thi help me ?
These boots will help with muscle recovery and should help with the soreness. I would also recommend having an expert look at your running technique. Also, do you wear any shoe orthotics for your feet?
You don't have choice to massage only parts of leg as.needed?
No, if you want more options then the pro version would be better. But these are not massage boots, they are for compression.
All size fits all ?
There is a larger size for very tall people too.
How do you charge it
The device has a power cord that also charges the battery for portable use.
But are they significantly better than a roller workout?
Foam rolling and compression boots both have benefits but they are different. I would say that Normatec compression boots are significantly better at producing fluid movement for reducing edema, swelling, and decreasing muscle soreness. Foam rolling is better for joint mobility (in the back), reducing myofascial adhesions, increasing flexibility and overall range of motion. Overall both are great, but do different things. Hope this answers your question.
@@DrBrandonNevel ah thanks. I thought rollers were for clearing the lactic acid out of the muscles
How.is the quality?
They are good quality.
I only wear full leg recovery socks
Anyone else here after seeing OU get these?
How much noisy?
They are not loud. I can watch TV comfortably while using them.
I’ve been curious to know what’s the purpose of this product after seeing famous footballers(Soccer) use it like Neymar ⚽️
These boots really help! Hope it cleared up why so many professional athletes use recovery devices like compression boots. Neymar uses the Normatec Pulse Pro.

Great channel, but the product itself is pure garbage. Normatec 2.0 blows. I purchased despite all of the many negative reviews. And welp, THEY WERE RIGHT! 3 damn days of use before I started getting constant ERROR messages with the pump itself. Gets better, then it has tendency to get stuck pumping in 1 zone. This is going back ASAP!
