- The recovery tech industry claims to help athletes bounce back after sports training. Players endorse everything from massage guns from makers like Theragun to cryo-chambers. But the science behind much of it is questionable--at best.

What sports recovery tech have you tried? Do you think it works as claimed? Let us know in the comments. 💪
Thera gun works 100 percent. I have used 1 before.
Lol, all you had to say was 'chiropractor' and you would have convinced me of dodginess. 🤣
I believe that there is one product that is certified on static and kinetic Coefficiency (less friction ) and also patented, than any leading towel on the market called the "Invigor towel" it's non abrasive and helps promote blood circulation even alleviates inflammation without scraping the Epidermis. I found them on youtube, also great for Post surgery...A New Kind Of Sports Recovery Towel
13:50 great example on why the US puts students into trillions of student loan debt, and is creating vast shortages of healthcare professionals and putting the country behind in academic achievement
As a former pro athlete now working a 9 to 5, I get the skepticism shown based on the research. However, she answered the question when she said "...it only showed marginal gains.". Marginal gains IS what is being looked for. All people training are going to be equal to some degree. But that 1-2% better in a marginal gain makes the difference. Cyclist will pay $500 for a part that gives a 2 watt difference. She's measuring the value of that cost versus the average weekend warrior.
Bold of you to assume, marginal gains mean 1-2% better, marginal gain in these studies when effectively carry out to real life is on the range of 0.001% specially on no peer review studies that is a very strong red flag, at that point the difference is so small that when the challenge is in front of you that 0.001% "benefit" disappeared.
@@Edpro01-z5d You are so busy trying to win you didn't comprehend what I wrote. I said the results when applied are antidotal in real world for a weekend warrior. No peer review is needed. But thanks for trying to 'win' an expressed opinion that was not your own. ✌🏾
This is the comment I was looking for. The sky cycling team literally lived and died by ghe phrase "marginal gains"
Fellow former-pro here too! I've used a number of these devices shown in the video, mainly the HyperIce products: Normatec boots, Hypervolt gun, vibrating foamroller, and their reusable ice pack. For me, the most beneficial was the Normatec boots. Felt like my legs were less fatigued after using them post-game, etc. The other ones seemed to alleviate temporarily but never enough to truly believe in them
@@yanick0 Soccer turned cyclist and those boots are the real deal! Less time in true recovery fatigue, especially now that we pay for massages, right!? lol
Science: prove me that it works.
Recovery Business Companies: prove us that it doesn't work!
We can make a religion out of this
I realized this early in my running career. Sport science is still pre-newton age science and it's very difficult to know what works vs what doesn't. Keep it minimum, try everything, don't follow blindly
Most of these things are not science though, not evidence-based
I have one of those massage gun and I only break it out when I got a muscle knot on my back. Helps prevent it from ruining my day at work or the next gym session.
Placebo.
I love the theragun personally. Gets knots out pretty decent.
As an athlete I can tell you - it helps! You should ask people who use it for recovery.
As an athlete, I can tell you... it doesn't help. I'm sure you can find a whole lot of people who believe their sugar pills help them recover faster after a tough workout. Doesn't make it real.
When milliseconds can mean winning and losing, no wonder sports recovery is ripe with fraud
Prospective, randomized, controlled trial. Just one. And this business goes belly up.
Half way finished and not one critique of these "DODGY" pieces of tech? This is an ad pretending to be news.
Agreed but if you finish the video that do state how there isn’t enough evidence that any of this tech works
Great video. Liked how you guys actually went and talked to people.
I think it depends on whether they're good for your health or not... whether regular non-athlete fitness enthusiasts use them. For steroids/etc, there are health dangers associated with them and fitness people just don't see the benefit really. But for those that help make good health, I don't see why not.
If it looks like it does something, and famous players promote it, people will be more than willing to try it and dish out the money. Most people aren't going to be reading the studies on this stuff (if there are any). At least most of this stuff is aimed at sports recovery and doesn't seem damaging compared with pseudoscientific medicine that might stop people treating diseases properly.
Its only damaging to the consumer's pockets.
Eat clen, tren hard, anavar give up ... Repeat the cycle
Omg that’s hilarious 😂😂
Red light therapy works for me after work out. I'm less sore. The cat loves it
They titled the video incorrectly. Should have been "Billion Dollars Placebo industry" 🤣
Most athletes and physiotherapists lack a sciency background which makes them easy prey to wishful thinking.
Says the RUclips flatearther 😂
@@DonZenOfficial the... what now?
I have chronic plantar fasciitis, in addition to using orthopedic insoles, the massage gun saved me to recover quickly
a therapy that does nothing in reality yet forces type A individuals to sit and stay still which ends up helping them....acupuncture has entered that chat.
You forgot human growth hormone and steroids. Because they work and most of not all top level athletes use them. Just be honest you can't compete at that level without being chemical enhanced.
Professional Athletes In Response to Sports Recovery Science : "Lets try it all."
Professional Athletes In Response to COVID Vaccine : "I don't know about this untested science"
comparing apples & oranges
What are you trying to say?
@@raffeisen2085 You're right. mRNA vaccines are much more sophisticated and safe than PEDs.
Man the venom go by hypeice relieves my menstrual cramps and I’ve tried the boots that a friend owned relieved my legs after running and lower body days and the gun is clutch so idk what they didn’t get.
I believe that there is one product that is certified on static and kinetic Coefficiency (less friction ) and also patented, than any leading towel on the market called the "Invigor towel" it's non abrasive and helps promote blood circulation even alleviates inflammation without scraping the Epidermis. It’s funny how all these recovery kits are insanely overpriced.
New technology.. New drama 🎭
You can recover to the same degree or even better without fancy tech. Nothing gets in there like a rumble roller + theracane. The theragun looks like it just pushes your tissues around.
... okay but what was that first backing track? It was absolutely beautiful ❤️
Great work 🥳🥳🥳 Thank you 💜💜💜
I use Rkovr massager. Works like magic for me for a fraction of the cost. Only $69.99
Couldn’t take this seriously once I’d seen those ridiculous nails on the reporter
These items are used to make you feel better while you’re recovering not recover faster. Imo that point gets glazed over here
Have a great day Krown
4K from Bloomby? Well, color me impressed… 😨
Great assessment !
Great video
In my experience, massage guns are great if for recovery within a few hours of working out. I barely feel sore the next day! But if I forget to do it and I try to use it the next day, it doesn't really help.
Nonsense. Massage does not prevent DOMS, which is caused by trauma to the muscle. You've got a real placebo effect there, bud.
Years ago I went to my chiropractor... I told him I'm in pain from..... I was taking opioids that would cause the pain to come back worse than it was.. I told him I walk in the woods not in a hurry just getting blood flowing this helped more than opioid prescription. So we tried the tens unit,, af first that hurt muscles pulling tightly. But in a few minutes the muscles relaxed and the blood flow like walking in the woods ..this helped ... the body carries a volt and when the volt is broken the pain is real using the tens unit for shock waves helped I wished I could have be sedated and shocked at the same time like in hyperbaric chamber
fomo kicking in too
I don't get the point of a cryochamber when you can just take an ice shower.
There is no such thing as "APPROVED BY THE FDA"
those massage guns are the best
*laughs in Shock Proteins*
Hbot does work. Don't include it in the list of bullsht products
Joe Rogan is seething.
just last week i identified as a former d1 athlete
Those massage guns with the ball, they WORK 100 percent. They take weeks and weeks and you have to go slow...
Poor article. Discrediting animal studies for IR trials/studies? Perhaps human trials are underway. You lost me there.
very interesting
I ve got that massaging gun and no phisio or pain killers worked better for my sciatica episodes than that gun
Marginal gains makes the biggest difference
Again, we do not spend our money based on scientific evidence. 😂 Art of marketing TT
wait im confused. are they saying the massage gun is ineffective? so is all massage ineffective?
Apparently it’s not that massage guns are ineffective. It’s just that there’s no evidence to support that it is effective. However there’s plenty of evidence suggesting that other massage techniques work. For example, vibration guns seem to work better than percussion guns
@gabrielmerlo8663 Percussion guns are pretty much deep tissue massaging. So you telling me thai massage is not effectively? Lol
Joe Rogan & Co. has entered the chat.
Bad mic or is it her voice ?
COOL VIDEO!! to see how far we have come...I just started new series of interesting facts and it includes coolest new gadgets...so comparing to past wow..so far has technology come!
I drink chocolate milk after workouts because I read somewhere that chocolate milk might help with recovery and, to be able to drink chocolate milk, that's good enough for me!
Just sleep 8h/day
4:48 "As a chiropractor" "I just made something" "It worked" I like how after all that build up, all he can say is "the pain stayed away for minutes. 20 minutes at a time. As long as I had it on my body." So as long as you're distracting yourself, you don't think about the pain from the motorcycle is what I got from that. What a scam.
More pointless consumption of things manufactured in China, not used and then thrown in the trash
Fire the reporter. What a waste of time
Too many quick cuts. Gave me a headache 👎
Scam
Recovery is overrated
