Using Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, I flew from Gilgit, saw the K2 and landed in Islamabad, it was spectacular. Can't imagine how it would be in real life.
Man, this makes me cry, these amazing tourists that have been coming to Pakistan especially in the last year have really disclosed the real beauty of my country, this will also help Pakistan to gain its respect which was lost due to some radical Islamist groups, ❤😊

My Grandpa is a retired air traffic controller of Gilgit Airport. We used to visit him during duty to watch the ATR come down from the Heavens, with devious skill land the beauty on the only strip of runway. He still ives me tips about aircraft whenever I'm planning on building a model. Whenever the ATRs come they go over our house just a few hundred feet or two up in altitude it's crazy good to watch them.

And that there are limited pilots who are trained and licenced to fly into them.

The main reason is runways are very short, and there is almost no place in the valleys for the bigger aircraft to come down and align with the runway. Mountains around are just so steep and over 5000 meters high.

On flight from Lahore to Skardu and Islamabad to Skardu you can witness world 2nd highest mountain K2. A320 also fly to Skardu from both Lahore and Islamabad.
Gilgit (along with nagar and hunza) were princely states who had Muslim rulers and were under the suzerainty of maharaja of Kashmir . When maharaja showed inclination to accede to India , these states rebelled and gave support to joining Pakistan

Beautiful views from the cockpit Josh, I felt a little sad also as my late brother in law was a Captain in Bangladesh Biman airlines, Nasimul Haque who passed away this year, he trained with Pakistan airforce and had many friends there. He talked about the dangers of flying over these mountains ⛰ and the incredible skill of the pilots navigating through them. I know he would have loved watching this video.

I'm a Pakistani and read about this flight in a book named "Ye Mera Baltistan" (it's my Baltistan) and now I am watching . it is thrilling and amazing for sure♥️🇵🇰
My uncle a very senior retired PIA pilot used to narrate the stories of his flying experiences. On this route while flying DC-3 Dakota, Nanga Barbat was the prominent reference point of navigation when simple maps were used. At one point the pilot and co pilot had to wear oxygen masks when the plane had to gain altitude to negotiate a high feature. This was a safety procedure. Those were the tough days. Seeing the terrain down below, it also reminds me of a F-27 Fokker crash in 1989. The wreckage has never been found to this day.

This video brought back some wonderful memories for me. In 2005 I also travelled from Islamabad to Gilgit, but by road in an american jeep. Pakistan was an unforgettable experience, a beautiful country with the finest mountain scenery in the world. The people, as Josh found out, are so hospitable and helpful. If anyone is thinking of visiting Pakistan, go, don't believe a lot of the negativity that one finds in the media.
Gilgit IS NOT in "Disputed Baltistan" it's part of Pakistan. Gilgit Baltistan is an integral part of Pakistan. Apart from that 1 quirk, amazing video and thank you for projecting a positive picture of Pakistani culture and beauty.

Beautiful, beautiful indeed! Hope to visit one day and witnes the natural beauty of Pakistan. Few months ago I had no idea of where Gilgit is. Since then it is one of my favourite airports to land at in my flight simulator. Stunning views of the Himalayas. Pristine clean air and mind blowing vast scnery. I reckon one should be blessed to witnes all these. There's so much we don't know about Pakistan indeed. Myself as a Bulgarian I've read ancient Bulgarians once visited and lived among these lands. And sure we have some things in common too. Great video and nice, humble people too! My heart was in my mouth the whole time. The plane was just metres away from the peak of mountain range.
It's actually not that dangerous at all. I live in Gilgit and I have travelled countless times by air, via this route.
Goes to show how high and magnificent these mountains are.... Almost touching the base of the plane

Baltistan is not disputed. It was taken from Kashmir's Maharaja by the freedom fighters of Gilgit Baltistan.
Gilgit (along with nagar and hunza) were princely states who had Muslim rulers and were under the suzerainty of maharaja of Kashmir . When maharaja showed inclination to accede to India , these states rebelled and gave support to joining Pakistan

What I see is a lot of misinformed Indians hating Pakistan. I have never met Pakistan people hating Indians. I gave met many Indians who think for themselves and respect Pakistan there are just a few whom under the spell of right wing Mohdi they believe the rubbish it's sad because both people are so similar and such hospitable loving people. Beautiful views from the cockpit Josh, I felt a little sad also as my late brother in law was a Captain in Bangladesh Biman airlines, Nasimul Haque who passed away this year, he trained with Pakistan airforce and had many friends there. He talked about the dangers of flying over these mountains ⛰ and the incredible skill of the pilots navigating through them. I know he would have loved watching this video.

I'm from kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan is a part of kashmir...
My uncle a very senior retired PIA pilot used to narrate the stories of his flying experiences. On this route while flying DC-3 Dakota, Nanga Barbat was the prominent reference point of navigation when simple maps were used. At one point the pilot and co pilot had to wear oxygen masks when the plane had to gain altitude to negotiate a high feature. This was a safety procedure.
Those were the tough days. Seeing the terrain down below, it also reminds me of a F-27 Fokker crash in 1989. The wreckage has never been found to this day.
Yes in that accident our neighbour Tariq also died nd never found his body. 😥

This video brought back some wonderful memories for me. In 2005 I also travelled from Islamabad to Gilgit, but by road in an american jeep. Pakistan was an unforgettable experience, a beautiful country with the finest mountain scenery in the world. The people, as Josh found out, are so hospitable and helpful. If anyone is thinking of visiting Pakistan, go, don't believe a lot of the negativity that one finds in the media.
Gilgit IS NOT in "Disputed Baltistan" it's part of Pakistan. Gilgit Baltistan is an integral part of Pakistan.
Apart from that 1 quirk, amazing video and thank you for projecting a positive picture of Pakistani culture and beauty.

Beautiful, beautiful indeed! Hope to visit one day and witnes the natural beauty of Pakistan. Few months ago I had no idea of where Gilgit is. Since then it is one of my favourite airports to land at in my flight simulator. Stunning views of the Himalayas. Pristine clean air and mind blowing vast scnery. I reckon one should be blessed to witnes all these. There's so much we don't know about Pakistan indeed. Myself as a Bulgarian I've read ancient Bulgarians once visited and lived among these lands. And sure we have some things in common too. Great video and nice, humble people too! (b.t.w watched your show about Bulgaria Air recently and couldn't help but agree with you, because I felt the same way you felt about many things shown in the footage) And also first when I bumped into your surname "Cahill" - I thought if Cahill Transport Co. in Sydney.
