    JW has just told us about his enlarged appendix... But its not a problem, he's in top shape and the boss of the ward..... Enough said. 💪

    John, thank you for all your time and effort to create this series of videos which are very helpful and informative. I'm hoping that you will create some future videos on inverters and battery storage as that seems to be the way things are heading.

    Thank God the bureaucrats haven't _(yet)_ concocted regulations for the use of candles for lighting or the type of food we're allowed to put in an oven.

    Hi John, I love your straight-talking informative videos; please keep it up. I thought I would ask you about 50 V a.c. and 120 V d.c. They seem to be quoted a few times in the BS 7671 regs. The HSE also mentions them opting to state any voltage below these numbers is considered safe to touch. Would you happen to know where these magical voltages came from?

    Hi John, love your content.
    I noticed my local voltage was 252.4v the other day. Thought you could shed some light on the implications of this. Are there any benefits on the consumer end for a high voltage. Ie if energy meters are based on amps then do high voltage customers get more watts than 230v customers ?

    Just an observation, having looked at all of the videos. I have worked in both commercial and residential premises for over 40 years in telecommunications and hold my 16th edition qualification, so know a little about things. I have never seen anyone come and check or police an installation. Who is checking work done? It seems the IET and BSI infer the threat of dreadful repriocussions if all of these regs are not stringently adhered to. Self certification leaves a lot to be desired, after all who is going to reject there own work. Do other electricians report another if they find sub standard work. I think not, they are off to the next job. The Competent person often makes a better job. My new house was a complete sham with so-called qualified people doing the work. Nobody found the crossed over rings, light circuits crossed up and down, cooker hob bare wires etc. Common sense is required more perhaps.

    JW is going to look at our appendix, from the back.
    Since when did JW become a surgeon?..... Guess I got my wires crossed..... Well BANG goes my theory

    Mr Ward
    Am I correct in assuming that ANY form of outdoor mains powered Christmas Lights, decorations etc, should have their power supplies (if outside) be placed into an IP44 Rated enclosure?

    • @jwflame
      @jwflame  Год назад

      Yes, unless the power supplies are sealed and intended for outdoor use - such things would be permanently wired and not connected with a plug/socket.

    John! Thanks for the excellent content and dorry to hijack this topic with unrelated but please do a vid explaining the BLUE wire. The fact that its EARTHED at points along its way back to the power station. And that AC curent flows back AND forth in the blue wite but doesnt short to earth?? Nor do the earthed parts of the installation become energized yet are connected to earth and thus to neutral and ac current flows 'back' up the wire on the negative peak of the sin wave?? Please coz its not looking safe on paper or logical to connect earth to neutral then to the plumbing. You wouldnt logically do that to the phase conductor so why do it to the neutral in an ac system? Why is there no potential difference on blue if the coil is spinning at 50 hertz and the current alternates?

      @@Mike_5 evrn in a TT system the neutral is a 0 volts. Yet in ac systems the current reverses. So why does this not cause the polarity to reverse and energize the blue wire. Sorry mike this might be above your level

    • @jwflame
      @jwflame  2 года назад +1

      This covers most of that: ruclips.net/video/AgCY_d98HF8/видео.html
      There isn't any potential difference between neutral and earth because they are connected together - that's the whole point of them being connected.
      Current flow doesn't change that. The neutral is always at the same potential as Earth. The phase is either positive relative to N&E, or negative relative to N&E.
