    The small wooden brayer of your mom’s is probably a tool used in applying wallpaper to press and conceal edges and seams. I’ve done a lot of wallpapering, yet I multipurpose a lot of tools, packaging, empty plastic containers of all sizes for painting textures, backgrounds and creating patterns, so many tools and items headed to the trash can has potential of becoming a free & cool tool by accident. You look at EVERYTHING differently! Good luck & best wishes! Hugs from TN

      Hi Serena! Yes, I think it’s a wallpaper tool as well. I have several tools that I have grabbed from a box full of her wallpapering supplies. 😍 And yes, so many things have potential. I’m constantly holding on to things for my gel print sessions! Thanks for your comment. 💕💕

    WOW!! Super fantastic! I loved watching the progression through papers, inks & brayers! I love all the green ones best, it’s my favorite color. It doesn’t seem like people use as much green as other colors, so I was fascinated by your use of it! My most favorite today was the green one that you added the last layer fairly late in the demo & it immediately made me think “jungle”! I don’t know if that’s enough info for you to figure out which one I mean. I have a box with all kinds of brayers, a few which belonged to my mom, so hopefully I’ll find some interesting ones in there. Your brayers with the 2 interchangeable patterns reminded my that about 20 years I bought several like that which were made by Fiskar, so those will be fun. For the past month or so I’ve been gathering everything that I could think of to use with gel printing: all kinds of paper, some scrounged (upcycling!) & some purchased, interesting lids, plastic nets from veggies, things with embedded designs, stencils, paints & just yesterday the crowning jewel: my 12x14 Gel Press plate finally arrived from Amazon!!! What perfect timing, I expect that today my adventure will begin & I will be AWOL for awhile! Might stop only when I run out of paint! I really liked seeing your papers, again, each time you rolled a new print on top & it was great to again see all of them at the end. I would have liked to see how you actually finished the session & whether you made several more lighter prints to clean up the plate at the end? Did you rinse or wash it off & did you condition it with baby oil? As I recall, it was crystal clear at the beginning & I’m glad you mentioned the white paper underneath, I’m definitely going to do that for myself!! All in all m, it was exactly what I needed to see!! Did you read my mind?! Thanks so very much for a wonderful & fun video! I’m glad the latest storm passed you by, but I think Little Rock had some damage. Unfortunately, this is shaping up to being a really dangerous year for tornadoes. Did you see the size of the hail in Texas? Bigger than a grapefruit! We had horrendous wind here in Lawrence & some branches were downed but nothing worse. Hope you stay safe & happy playing with your gel plate!! Have a great day, Jennifer! Your videos are the best!!

And 4️⃣ start with any paper you can get your hands on! Or get a pad of mixed media paper or Bristol paper if you’re wanting something thicker and you plan to make finished paintings.

    • @jennifertobinart
      @jennifertobinart  Год назад

      I do a few different things… unlike some people, I love creating finished pieces of artwork! So I love to layer paint up to achieve that. (I even teach a course that shows you how to create landscape paintings if you’re interested!) Anything I make that doesn’t create a complete painting can be added to mixed media pieces or collage.
      I also use this process to loosen up and experiment. And there are days when the act of creating is the most important part - so even if I don’t like what I’ve created, the process was important and I can cover those pieces up another day and try again. 💕

It’s a “Biggie” sketch pad that’s 18x24” (50 lb) and I cut it in half to use with the 12x14” gel plate. I happened to get 2 of these sketch pads and a drying rack for really cheap from a therapist who was closing her office. So, I’m really just using what I have and I appreciate that it’s acid free. • @jennifertobinart
      @jennifertobinart  2 года назад +2

      You could maybe do rubber bands around it! Or rubber bands around a paper towel roll make cool lines too! Personally I love that the large plate allows me to move around more. I can appreciate the small plate using less paints, etc. But it feels so expressive and freeing to create on this bigger plate.

    i worry about using packing paper in collage. will it change over time? get brittle?

      Hi Teri! It's definitely not the strongest paper or high quality in any way! There are many times that I don't worry about the paper quality, and I'll just paint on anything, even cardboard. But, for things that I want to last or things I want to sell as high quality pieces of artwork - then I only use the good stuff: artist paper or panels, good paints, high quality varnish, etc. There's a place for all of it in my art practice, but I can see where that's not the case for some.
      Thanks for being here! Happy creating!

    Please can you tell me where do you get your large gel plate from. How do you make finished paintings and how do you frame the paintings. I only use canvas.

      Hello, Mary! I got my large gel plate from Amazon. Here is my affiliate link for the 12x14" Gel Press gel plate: amzn.to/3lIeQiG -- I make finished paintings by layering up the paint in different ways, sometimes on the gel plate and sometimes on the paper. I frame the papers with a variety of frames depending on the size. I cover these topics in more detail in my online course. You can read more about that on my website, if you're interested! www.jennifertobinart.com/courses Thanks for your comment!

    If you look at the one on the left at 30:56 in to the video.. the black on the left and bottom right side... look like people. do you see it? Or is it just late and I'm seeing things?

      I reach for my soft Speedball brayer constantly and LOVE it! I have a link to it in my video description so you can see exactly what I have. 💖💖 What brand is the silicone brayer you’re looking at? I want to look it up…

    I thought you are supposed to roll the brayer in the same direction ??

      In a typical gel plate session that would be the advice. But in this particular video I’m working with brayers in a variety of different ways to create different textures. I hope you give it a try. Enjoy!
