that's definitely the best idea. Is to just play. Get a feel for the plate and the paints. What you like, what you don't. Then sometimes you do something unintentionally that you just love and it becomes a favorite technique. Just play, experiment and most important - HAVE FUN!
It’s great watching you experimenting, exploring and sharing as you discover what the results end up with. It feels like celebrating the true spirit of this type of printing and you got some amazing results plus I love the way you lay down colours. It’s great that you are willing to show when you don’t get what you expect or are disappointed as it shows a more realistic example of what it’s like as well as showing how you can get “happy accidents”
Thank you! That's exactly what I hope to put across. I want people to not be afraid to just play and see what happens. Too many people just put their best stuff forward. Thanks so much for this comment.
You probably know by now but just in case you don’t, the way to pull a print well is to rub, press, or roller the paper onto the plate just as you did BUT walk away and let it dry12 hours or more. Then you will get a good print. Hope this helps 😊
Yes, I've been told this. Patience isn't my strong suit. lol I did it once though and it did work fabulously! But I've also done it without having to wait too! lol
This advice is valuable but only if you have multiple plates! If you really want a “play session” it’s torture to walk away for hours! I’m with Denise on the patience level!
I will add to this suggestion of waiting, I use books to add weight while the print dries overnight and it will usually pull all the layers up in the morning.
Thank you so much. I can't believe how sweet everybody is with their comments. And I never know what to say back. I can't put into words how awesome it is to read the sweet comments. All I know to say is Thank you. I am truly touched.
I love finding Canadian artists (I recognized the GT bag). I found this video reassuring AND helpful, as I've experienced that seemingly endless quest to get the grunge off my plate, and yes, it does produce awesome prints, but man does it take patience and time to get there, and an awful lot of paint. I love the way gel plate printing forces the artist to embrace "imperfections" - imperfection isn't the right word, as they're gorgeously unique. I will be back.
Just came upon your video - loved it! Thanks for sharing your successes and, very importantly, the experiment that didn’t work - playing is so important, it’s how we learn and you make it not scary to try out new ideas… 🙏
I love how you show us weather it works or not, that’s how we learn too. I’m still getting my head around the layering techniques , so I watch and work along with you. Keep making lovely gelli prints, cheers from Perth west Australia.
Thank you. I'm happy it helps. Gel printing is a lot of playing and learning what works and what doesn't. What you like and what you don't. Have fun experimenting.
Denise .... I did some gelli printing tonight on dry leftover acrylic images on my gelli plate and I realized the one thing I didn’t say on my earlier notes is ... when you lay a last coat of color on dry acrylic paint (in order to pull the whole image), wait until the print hardens before you pull it. ellen!
I LOVE the first one! Would you suggest that the first impressions should be on this darker side? And the second pull is really organic! Love love love it
I totally get what you were thinking king with the embossing powder, and I love the idea. You can get the look you were going for, I think, just by stenciling the embossing powder on to the print and them embossing it. You can then layer over parts of that with more paint or ink if you want to.
Oh mylanta! I absolutely love it when you peel the paint off your brayer! I'm a nurse, so I'm a picker and it is just so satisfying to see that come off in 2 strips. Good job, lol. I also love watching you do layers like this. I think your favorite was mine too, but there were also several others that I really liked. One of the ones with the embossing powder and that round stencil, it was mostly blue I think. I really liked the way it looked. Thanks for sharing!!!
I've never been happy with the prints that I've pulled from my Gelli Plate. I've watched a lot of videos on the process, but your video is the first one to give me hope. Many of the prints you pulled were stunning and I truly enjoyed watching your video. I am now a subscriber to your channel. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so very much. So sweet. And so happy to have you subscribe to my channel. Thank you. Just keep playing with the gel plate! You'll get it. And remember not all pulls are going to be great. Just keep going!
She's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! So glad to see you working the plate again. I thought you had some amazing prints that would make glorious backgrounds or collage pieces!
This was fun! One thing about the gelli plate, even things that don't work look very interesting! Have you tried using the embossing powder and heating it before picking up a print, and then reheating it, remelting the powder and adding more powder, melting it again? I have done the remelting a lot a while back and, without the acrylic, it works beautifully. With the acrylic layer, maybe not. I love experimenting!
On paper, yes I have done that with the embossing powder. But I wouldn't want to do that on the gelli plate, think it may wreck it. I was told not to use a heat gun on the gelli plate and I'm trying to listen. lol Thanks!!!
Denise, you are to hard on yourself. All those prints are really really stunning and gorgeous too. I really really would give my eyetooth if I could produce anything like these prints you’ve made. And the embossing powder didn’t work, you’ll try again another time I really really love 💕 watching you create these stunning and gorgeous prints. Your amazing absolutely amazing. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
Thank you so much for these videos. I have struggled with how to develop my gelli printing abilities and ideas, and just watching your narrated process videos has helped me tremendously in freeing up my own creative process. I realized I was all hung up on “doing it right” and “making good art” (even though I know intellectually that allowing myself to just make BAD art is the way to relax and discover what I really want to do). Anyway... thank you. Also, in case no one has mentioned it yet, your voice is SO PERFECT for listening to while doing this. :-)
Well that's a whole lot of wonderful words you said. Thank you so very much. So kind of you to say! It is hard to allow yourself to make bad art. There are days I play with the gel plate and feel so discouraged like I can't possibly make anything nice. Sometimes those are days that maybe I should be something different. lol Allow yourself to have fun and make a mess. And be okay with making some ugly prints. We all have them!
Denise I really love 💕 watching you. And I really didn’t know you could peel off a layer of colour from a brayer either. I really love 💕 those gorgeous prints you made awesome. Thank you so much xxx Mags
Thank you so much Mags. Yes, I've seen videos where people have to soak theirs in some sort of floor cleaner I believe it is. Can't recall right now. But I just wait for mine to get thick enough to be able to just peel it right off.

Some of paper doesn't come up and ruins a beauty. I usually put mineral oil on a cleaned up plate and rub it in, wipe it off and store overnight. Do you have a reconditioning process you can share?

Hullo, darling! Wonderful prints! I've a question, pls? I started playing with alcohol inks on my gel plates and using acrylics as well. Sometimes my paper sticks to the plate and actually peels the paper off in places. What am I doing wrong, pls? I'm loving the effects of the alcohol inks btw, so much fun! Thank you, my dear! Xo
Hi Lindsey. The very odd time that happens to me too. I know the one time it was happening my plate was just awful. It was in desperate need of a cleaning. I had let it get way too bad. It's the only time I have ever cleaned my gel plate. So if it's constantly doing it, then I recommend giving it a good cleaning. I did a video of me cleaning it. It's it my gel printing playlist. If it's only happening occasionally, I'm really not too sure. It's been a while. I don't know if there wasn't enough paint? Try to take note of what you've done when it happens? Like products, particular brands? The amount of paint, anything. See if there's a common factor. Sorry I'm not more help. If I ever realize/find out why, I will let you know.
When heated/melted I do believe it is. I thought as a powder that maybe I could pick it up on on the paper and then heat emboss it. But it didn't work. oh well.
Sorry finishing up. I locate as many spots as I can and all the medium on all the spots. Then I reset the print 9n the plate and Let it sit for a long time. I usually get a successful pull. Don't be in a rush let it dry well. I know some people use more than one plate so they can let it sit overnight. I've also found that I can repair errors with a bit of watercolor or acrylic with a paint brush.
Puis je savoir quel est ce produit blanc que vous mettez avant d’imprimer???? Utilisez vous de l’acrylique ou de l’huile?? En tout cas bravo pour votre démo c’est très réussi 👍👌💕
Thanks so much 😊 I use them in collage, making mini albums, art journaling. And I also have a pile not used. lol Some I have a hard time ripping into. But I have learned to SCAN them so I always have them. Or I can print it and use the print instead of the original if I love it that much.
Those prints may have not been "what's in your head"... but they were absolutely GORGEOUS! I truly LOVE your style of applying your paints and stencils. (:
Just used my gel plate for the first time last night. I like how you include what you don't like and your thought process on how you can "do better". Tfs
@@carlamarlene2927 you can try cheap paint. The cheapest paints I have a use on the gelli plate are Liquitex Basics and they work fabulous. No complaints at all. I just LOVE Golden when it comes to gelli printing. I think it's the way they layer because they are so fluid. But people gelli print with all different kinds of paints. So try the cheap paints first. That way you're not out a lot of money if you don't like it. Then work your way up. All you can do is try. Everybody is different. Other's may hate Golden paints! Sorry if this doesn't help.
Just watched this again Soo inspirational 😍 You say you waited for it to dry. How long was that? Could I use a hair dryer with no heat to speed up the process?
Thank you! I wait for each layer to dry before add the final layer of paint to pull the print. As for how long it takes to dry, I just look at it, you can usually tell. Then if I'm usure I'll lightly tap an area with my finger to check. Don't use a hair dryer or any heat on your gel plate. That wouldn't be good for the gel plate. I did it once and haven't done it since. I have a video where I go through the process in real time and tell what time I stop and started the next layer. I will look for it and link it for you.... ruclips.net/video/NqpsDeCMEYI/видео.html

I have another idea using a past from TCW that I will try later.
Lovely. The Golden paints really are good quality.
they really are. But you can get great prints with other paints as well.
These are all gorgeous!
awww thanks!
Looks like a lovely evening gettin' painty! Thanks for the video.
Thank you! I always have fun gelli printing! One of my favourite things to do!
Just a thought...isn't embossing powder a resist to paint? Maybe that's why it was so hard to pick up.
When heated/melted I do believe it is. I thought as a powder that maybe I could pick it up on on the paper and then heat emboss it. But it didn't work. oh well.
cool video love seeing the textures and the outcomes of your prints
thank you so much!!!!
These are very fun. Love them👍❤️
Thank you 🤗
You are awesome and inspirational!
Wow, thank you!
LOVE the grungy pages the best
always!!!!
thank you
Sorry finishing up.
Thanks for the info!
I looked at your supply list but I couldn’t find out what kind of paper you’re using. Do you mind telling us?
Recollections Card Stock from Michael's Craft Store.
Denise I loved watching this video, so inspiring 😍. It makes me want to play with my plate xx
Good! That's what it should do! lol Thanks so much.
Puis je savoir quel est ce produit blanc que vous mettez avant d’imprimer????
Utilisez vous de l’acrylique ou de l’huile??
En tout cas bravo pour votre démo c’est très réussi 👍👌💕
Thank you
I just used white acrylic paint.
I have enjoyed so many of your videos and always learn something. Thank you.
So nice of you, thank you.
I must admit I only do whatever the card that I am making requires. How do you use your gellie prints? They are fabulous.👍💐
Thanks so much 😊
I use them in collage, making mini albums, art journaling.
Thanks so much. I appreciate that.
Just used my gel plate for the first time last night. I like how you include what you don't like and your thought process on how you can "do better". Tfs
oh YAY!!!! AND???? Did you love it? Or are you still feeling usnure and need to play lots more?
@@DeniseLush I liked it. I will play with it some more. I like the leftovers coming up on a new print
@@carlamarlene2927 yes that's my favourite part too! That's why I don't clean my plate!!!
@@DeniseLush what are the best paints? I am thinking cheapo paint is just as good
@@carlamarlene2927 you can try cheap paint.
Just watched this again
Soo inspirational 😍 You say you waited for it to dry.
