Just had to come in to say that as a cosmetic chemist I disagree that raw skincare smells terrible. It entirely depends on the ingredients, it can smell awful, can smell really lovely, or can basically smell like nothing at all.

I totally agree. I use only fragrance-essential oil-citrus peel-FREE products and these don’t smell like anything, including some prescription formulas. Raw skincare doesn’t have to smell bad imo.

I like fragrances that are not too strong, but my sensitive skin can't take it. I accidentally bought a Korean sunscreen with fragrance. I loved that I could barely feel it on my skin and it smelled amazing, but the more I used it, the more red and irritated my skin got. So no fragrance for me.

I'm allergic to so many fragrances and all citrus so fragrance and essential oil free skin care is the only kind i trust any more. And my face is far more sensitive than my body so patch testing isn't always helpful. Nothing is more frustrating than buying an expensive product, having done a patch test that comes out fine, and then having an allergic reaction on your whole face. Very discouraging.

i have been using fragrance free cleansers and moisturizer for years now so recently i became curious to try a new cleanser and moisturizer that both contain fragrance. for about a week i loved how they made my skin look & feel but about 4 days ago when i got home from work i started noticing all this irritation & rough texture all over my face where i applied the new products. i take pretty good care of my skin so i did not know it was this sensitive. i immediately switched back to my fragrance free, sensitive skin products. my eyelids and nose were the most irritated and textured areas. the irritation and rough patches are starting to soften up now but it was a little stressful to experience.

I can just never know tbh. My skin is a freakin mystery and here in Sweden you can't "just" book a time at a derms office. You have to be redirected through a first line physician first and THAT is hard of you only want help with "what skincare to use". And seeing a derm in a private clinic costs an arm and a leg and there is no insurance that covers this type of visit.
Through trial and error I have found that witch hazel is death to my skin (rashes, damaged skin barrier). Most products with tea tree causes it to break out and the specific brands like Dr Ceuracles and Dear Klairs just isn't for my skin no matter what products I've tried! There is ALWAYS something that goes wrong. Protein buildup in the pores, rashes, acne flairs, stinging/burning, damaged skin barrier etc.
I generally seem to have troubles with niacinamide, peptides and hyaluronic acid and it has taken MANY tries to find products that works if they contain these.
Fragrances is therefor a HUGE gamble for me since I have no idea what my temperamental skin is gonna say. I stear clear in most cases so I don't waste money any more than I have to.

I can do fragrances in skincare… if it’s a wash-off or if it’s something that I only use a couple of times a week. Daily fragranced skincare can (and eventually will) cause irritation, breakouts and rosacea flare-ups. I’ve gotten used to the smell of most unscented products. In fact, I hardly ever think about or notice the smell. I suspect many people are so used to scent in products, that when it’s unscented, they miss that… It may take some “weening” to get over that.

More than a third of Americans surveyed reported experiencing health problems when exposed to them, according to a study by Anne Steinemann of the University of Melbourne. “All fragranced products that I tested . . . emitted chemicals classified as hazardous air pollutants,” Steinemann said in an email. “You may not realize you’re being affected until it’s too late.”
The Canadian Center for Occupational Health and Safety lists the following possible symptoms of exposure to fragrances: “headaches, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, weakness, insomnia, numbness, upper respiratory symptoms, shortness of breath, skin irritation, malaise, confusion and difficulty with concentration.”

I’m so allergic to Coconut and it’s derivatives, which are in EVERYTHING but it’s also sometimees used in fragrance/to carry fragrance but not always listed so I have to avoid anything with a vague “fragrance” listed.

My skin hates fragrances. They burn. My nose is okay with some of the not so great smelling products. It’s better than getting an inhalant allergic reaction.
