@@Satiire I'd love to see you do a Platinum video on The N Sane Trilogy and Crash 4 as well. I did everything in Crash 4 on Xbox and while I enjoyed the experience I definitely had to take breaks to play other games to keep my sanity, some of those platinums were a real bitch and a half to get(Rock Blocked was the worst, I swear you basically have to cheat your way through the level to even stand a chance of getting the time because of how little room for error you have).

I feel like the explanation for jak being mar may have been left on the cutting room floor, but the way I interpreted it was a bit wild so bear with me here.
The precursors are crazy powerful, incredibly advanced and capable of travelling through space and time, so I assumed that when they granted Daxter’s ‘deepest wish’ they not only gave him pants and a ladyfriend, but a *copy* of jak to keep him company- all while Mar moved on with the precursors to close off a few time loops (like building haven and becoming his own ancestor) before going on to remove the dark makers for good.
In any case this was a delightful dose of sweet sweet nostalgia to keep me cozy on a sleepless night. Thanks, man.

Feel like I'm an odd one out but I love the direction after J&D, there are so many platformers that you just run around and collect stuff, but Jak 2 and 3? Never found another game like them, sure I like playing most of the games I played as a kid, but these I think really stand the test of time and aren't only good because I was young when I first got into them. Something about the mix of platforming, action, complex plot (for a kid's game), badass characters, humour and adult jokes from Daxter, along with variety between an open world to explore and collect hidden orbs, linear missions, little optional challenge missions, the jetboard, hover vehicles, a bunch of unique cars in Jak 3, they're just so good. Plus, I swear that scene of Jak realising that Jak 2's world is the future hits so hard every time while looking at Samos' hut in the sewer area.

    • @goforit1103

Same here. I remember back as a child, Jak 2 blew my mind. I just couldn't fathom that it had like an open world. I replayed the trilogy last year and it holds up really really well. Still awesome games and the HD remake looks good as well. Jak 2 was hard though. Struggled so much as a kid xd.

I'm with you on that one.
Jak 1 is really fun and I like it a lot, but I'd take Jak 2 over it any time. Really love the vibe of the game.
Though I played 2 and 3 before 1 so I didn't had nostalgia for the first game when I played the others. I just found it kinda weird that the first game was so different.
Most people that argue against the change of direction are the fans of the first game that probably wanted something closer to what they had previously.

Its a bit cheap, but for the eggs in Jak II, if you jump above a gold egg, pause and select restart mission, Jak will fall and collect the egg and still restart the mission. For Jak 3, hold the button that turns you into Dark Jak down while standing next to the gold egg and do the same thing, pause and restart mission. He'll collect it and restart the mission. Takes the fun out of some of the challenges but it also makes those damn difficult ones a non-issue. I do love that you genuinely collected them for the video though, very well done! 😊

I have the trilogy Plats on both PS3 and PS4 [ I believe there is a Vita list as well, but I don't own a Vita and apparently the ports are bad ] and Jak X [ PS4 only ] as well, which I actually enjoyed so I don't know why it was considered a flop. story ain't that complicated in 3: Jak's birth name was Mar in honor of his ancestor, Samos didn't know this though, so he named him Jak due to the time loop going on (this does mean the origin of Jak's name is literally a time paradox, but stuff like that happens sometimes)

@@Satiire yep, I was at 92% when I encountered the old stadium glitch in Jak 2 because I did the extra races before the end of the game. Keira doesnt show up at the stadium and you cant turn of the race because the city is on alert. Never heard of it before, but it was an old PS2 bug that was fixed in the platinums release, but the PS4 version uses the original release with the bug. Hours of work wasted and the only option is to start a new game. I cried that evening...

I feel this is badly laid out simply because you focus 99% on showing just playing through the game which is fine for Jak 1 but 2 and 3 all the challenge and things we would want to see in terms of collecting the platinum you do not show. Just completing the story is not an issue its all the races /side content and collecting that makes the trophy a challenge. I have the platinum for the PS3 trilogy and it was extremely difficult in places I found bloodborne to be much easier lol. But you don't show or mention any of those really challenging parts which seems a bit silly. For example one of the reverse races in Jak 2 it is insanely hard to beat the timer like even with perfect laps you only have a leeway of less than 1 second to do it with good RNG and some of the gun courses have to be perfectly memorized to have any chance of getting gold.

Yeah no-one actually uses Dark Jak in Jak 2, they save it for a moment they'll need it because it takes a long time to gather that much Dark Eco, and if you die you don't even get the Eco back to try again. So they save it for the moment they need it... and don't end up needing it.
In Jak 3 you end up using it a lot more often because you don't have to use a whole bar transforming for a few melee hits.

I agree, first game, even though it was a collectathon, it was fairly easy, where anyone could pick it up and put it down anytime they pleased and feel satisfied, Jak 2 is a bit on the hard side of things where it can get annoying, but one repeat playthroughs with the knowledge of what's to come you can overcome those challenges much easier, making it a good time (even if I nearly rage quit both on PS2 as a kid and PS4 a couple years back), and finally Jak 3 had the best balancing, certain parts could be frustrating, but they made for it with new weapon upgrades, and the light Jak abilities to ease you through, and again repeat playthroughs were MUCH easier, even though somehow on PS4 I had it surprisingly harder than on PS2, as I remember blazing through the OG PS2 version.
(Sorry for the long post! But TL;DR) Jak 1 fairly easy for everyone, Jak 2 hard at first but repeat plays are easier, Jak 3 meets a fine line and gets easier in repeat plays.

I recently rebought the Jak Trilogy on PS5 because it was on offer, and I always wanted to play Daxter again because I've played it since First beat it, which was my first PSP game. I can easily 100% Jak and Daxter, and I actually did the blue rings on my first try this time, but I missed 1 Power Cell in the Entire game, and it was the Muse. I caught the Muse when I went to Misty Island, but I forgot to give it back to the guy, and it was only when I got to the final boss that I realised I forgot to give the guy his Muse, so the whole game just gained a new title Jak, Daxter and Muse.

I tried 3 times to platinum Jak 2 to "miss" 3 precursor orbs, turns out sometimes there's a glitch. It totally put me off bothering to get the platinum for number 3 or Jak X. I've never backed down from a platinum trophy before but with how difficult this game can be and trying 3 times I just don't think I'll ever try a Jak game again which is sad I really loved these games as a child. I had even 100% completed Jak 2 as a teenager.

Alright, in the Jak 3 concept there is what this was. Jak was called Mar at birth because his father Damas wanted to name his son after his ancestor who was actually called Mar. After he was rescued by the Shadows from his captivity by Praxis, he was called Jak by Samos due to the fact as a mute child, he didn't even remembered his real name.

So I love, played, and 100% Jak and Daxter multiple times, huge fan of the original game! But I tried the second one and just couldn't beat it, the glitches were insane, way too difficult, stress inducing, and not fun. I didn't even bother with 3 due to bad memories of it. I really wanna play and enjoy the full trilogy and experience the story, but I just can't get into the other 2! Like I said, the glitches and difficulty really are what broke me for the second one. I think I reached a part where you had to defend Samos from giant robots or something and after multiple attempts I just couldn't do it. I may give them a go again one day, it's a shame as I do love the original so much!

1:08:10 "IF anything, it may have been one of the hardest mission out of the three games."
**me, scratching my head at the Mar seal piece in Jak 2**
I don't think i have ever had any difficulty what so ever on protecting the HQ mission, i'ma be real. this was the time to play with those funny new weapon attachments. While in Jak 2, it was considered obnoxious to always be jump-spin attack and shoot the yellow blaster as you'd be wasting ammo and leaving yourself open to attack, the beam reflexor (lvl2 yellow gun) made those last two points moot by making it almost meta in big open areas with tons of offscreen enemies surrounding you. jump, spin, fire a couple times and the entire area is cleared in seconds.
Should also mention that with most of the primary and secondary attachments of the morph gun, the punch+shoot combo would also come handy in situations like that mission. it was especially effective with the yellow blaster, primary and secondary. atleast with the secondary, the bullets will bounce around and hit more targets.
Effectively utilizing these techniques, you could even blaze through the coveted Mar's Seal mission in jak 2 without much problem or the need to cheese it with the jet board- which honestly surprised me the mission never came up in your playthrough of jak 2. you must've had no trouble at all then

Didn't care for the 2nd or third game. Adding guns was just bizarre and felt like they where trying too hard at making them edgy and serious. The first game felt like a childhood classic, and the 2nd/3rd felt like the devs saying "you're a teen now!" Loved the first game though and it will be replayed a couple more times by me in the future im sure. But i didn't personally feel like the sequels deserved any praise. In fact I'd say it suffered from worse sequalitis than some.
That said, there's plenty who love the sequels for all the right reasons. It just wasnt my cup of tea anymore. And reflecting as an adult now I easily see how they where loved by so many. The art style is amazing, mechanics weren't odd or unplayably buggy and it did bring more character and better narrative for those who enjoy a high risk epic fantasy adventure. I'm glad the oldies are still talked about today.

    Sorry but isn't this obvious?
Jak is not the historical Mar. He is named after his ancestor Mar as he is from the great house of Mar.
What's so hard to understand about that? He's just named after his ancestor. That's it.
Ashlin questioning wether he's "THE Mar" is never adressed, so it's safe to assume that Mar being a family and not just one guy isn't a commonly known fact.
So Ashlin is just wrong because she doesn't know there is an entire family line called Mar. So obviously she would get the wrong impression.

Jak being called Mar I think is a really good thing with the idea of time travel at the end of Jak 3, maybe he did go back and found the city, but it is most likely he is just named after Mar and a descendent. There is also a funny theory that the crying soldier in the first game is Mar which I want to believe lol
