I was so frustrated with our Whirlpool top loader going out of balance i almost threw it away and bought new. After reviewing a couple of your videos I was able to determine it was the suspension rods. I paid attention and purchased factory direct items. I did most of the repair and my husband placed the new rods in. The best part of this video was the use of the old rod to pull up the new one. I was able to wash my first load immediately following with NO out of balance issues. I am so much happier and no longer yelling obscenities at the machine.

So glad you happened to post this video today. I just installed the kit from Ben's Appliance yesterday, but it made the problem even worse. Turns out the first piece wasn't seated well enough--it was a little difficult to see in his video what exactly needs to line up. Once I pounded it in there (took a surprising amount of force), it was much better.

The number one method to get that wash plate off is the air wedge jacks. I can literally have it off in about 5 minutes. No other methods would work and I got tired after about 5 hours 😂 best 20$ I ever spent!

I've tried the strap under the wash plate. Soaked the splines with WD-40 or PB Blaster. Even tried scalding hot water. Sometimes, it works, sometimes not. I've tried air wedges. They work sometimes. I usually wind up breaking the washplate off the internal metal hub, cutting three slots into the hub vertically and across the top with a Dremel tool, and then splitting the hub with a chisel to remove it. Remove the old drive hub. Clean the splines with a wire brush. Apply Never-Seize to the splines for the drive hub and wash plate before you reassemble.

🚨this is an easy fix and most likely the cause for a washer jumping around. I replaced the springs and it still jumped. If when holding the outer tub lip and shaking the inner tub and there is any play or rocking back and forth, then this is the fix. MAKE SURE YOU BUY THE SHIM KIT. when you take off the plastic OEM hub and clean off the shaft, make sure you install the shim that will take the play out of the shaft to tub contact. I didn’t do this the first time and there was play after installing this part. Ben appliance sells the shim kit in three sizes when you order it. Mine was the middle one which was green that I had to install. Once I tapped that in between the tub and the shaft there was no play. I then installed the hub like in the video and there is no play. Had to order hub again because I couldn’t break the Loctite on the 1st one. My washer is working 100% now. I can’t stress it enough make sure you install a shim or it will still jump and have play even after it’s installing the hub fully. Depending how long you’ve been using your washer and letting it jump around will dictate how much of the tub has been worn away, which will require the shim size to be different. Use a thin flat surface and tap the shim around till flush. Don’t use a pointed object or screw driver as this will damage the shim.

Thank you Richard for your videos. I found out about my issue after you posted that one video saying “I’m not going to fix it” then you said “stop” and showed the hub fix. You are a life saver because while shopping for washers thinking there was no fix, you saved my family money with your video. 🙏 bless you sir. PS the new washers are all junk and feel like toys.

I have a Maytag with an agitator model MVWB765FC3 that goes crazy then stops everytime at exactly 36 minutes so is this fix applicable to an agitator maytag? If I rearrange clothes it'll work sometimes & sometimes not. I decide to take a load outside & ring everything out once then put back into finish & everytime I do that the load will finish just fine. But I can't get all of the water out of the tub even when I turn it to drain & spin??
I checked the rods & they look good. However, I noticed that there's a lot of water in the bottom everytime after I wash a load. I will admit that a while back while washing a comforter I added a few extra gallons of water to a load because it wouldn't fill up deep like it usually does so I'm assuming that extra water is from what I added, byr it seems like it should drain out anyways? Please make suggestions!

Hi. Maytag centennial mvwc565fw2…followed repair to replace plastic hub with metal. Definitely fixed the shaking and noise but immediately after repair there is a clicking noise about every second during the wash and rinse cycles when agatating. Do you think we should redo it? Any ideas why it would be clicking after repair. Thank you.

Yes. Visually inspected the agitator and seems fine. I think I put the agitator bolt on way too tight after repair. Did not put on as tight after reinstalling after inspecting but still clicks. Wonder if the agitator is somehow damaged from putting bolt on too hard.

I Googled "Whirlpool model #WTW5000DW1 improved metal hub", and another time Googled the part # you give in your "I made a huge mistake" video, the one attempt where I Googled the washer model # along with "improved metal hub" one of the sites I clicked on that was in the drop down had an automatic thing on the screen (like AutoZone's website that says whether or not the part you're looking at fits your car) that said "This part does not work with your Whirlpool washer model #WTW5000DW0" (it put a 0 at the end automatically instead of the number 1 which I'd entered which probably doesn't mean anything anyway it's probably a color code or something), yet it sure does look exactly like the kit you installed in the other "I made a huge mistake" video and the washer in that video looks EXACTLY like the one I'd like to get fixed.
Also I found a site with that kit that has a screen that says "Fits these models" that shows at least 60 or 70 different model number's but not mine, which once again is the same exact washing machine from your other video, I can't find a site selling that part that I can confirm that it works with mine, WHICH ONCE AGAIN I THE SAME EXACT WASHER THAT'S IN YOUR OTHER VIDEO THAT YOU PUT THE KIT IN, so my question is WILL IT FIT MINE OR NOT!!!!🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
