    Thank for this video. I was able to replace those suspension rods all by myself. Best part was I didn't break or scratch my nails doing it.
    I trick I used was to wrap a ratchet strap around the tub. Then, I hooked one of those black rubber bungee through it. Mine was long, so I wrapped it around the strap so it could lift the tub. Alone hook I attached to the top of the frame and the other end I attached to the bottom. I moved it around on each corner. This helped to keep the tub in position when I leaned the machine over to access the underneath.
    Kind of glad my husband wasn't here to help. Especially when I forgot to put the drain hose back in the pipe. I ran a load and made a huge mess. I had it right the first time, but then the hose connections were leaking, so I pulled it out to put new Teflon tape and gaskets in the hose connections. Now the floors are nice and clean.

    I want to share my remedy too. I’m not in the business anymore but I will probably again.
    I like your site because the way you work is like me too.
    So I used a hook pick or needle nose to carefull remove the spongey grip inside.
    The problem is, the rod is wearing away the inside of the spongy grip .
    Then, I cut the spongey grip with a razor. Removed it. With scissors, I removed more bit by bit, until I could wrap it tightly around the rod again.
    Then Inwrapped it once and a half with self adhesive tape.
    For me it’s worked like a charm. I had one failure though. I never knew why because the customer tried to replace with new ones before contacting me.
    I just finished installing her new rods without ever seeing the old ones I repaired.
    All other rods to my knowledge are still going.

    9:47 the damaged part of the tub is dug into the metal frame in the back keeping the tub off balance. It happened to mind,thanks for the clear video showing how the rods are supposed to be.

    Dampener/friction grease ,Nyogel 767A from NYE lubricants Inc. Same stuff they use on video game controllers. They've got other products similar too, wide range. I would say fill that plastic capping with it and work it up the wire rod and into the fitting at the top as best you can. Just did a repair on our machine at home and it is working really well thus far. Cheers

    The foam piece is worn out, which makes the spring slide up and down without friction. The foam is inside the plastic body he popped the top off of.

    THE TRUTH: Everyone is focused on making the capsule grip the rod tighter to reduce the shaking, This can help, but it is not the solution. The reason these rods work to stop the shaking is that there is a special grease that has been applied to the rod where the capsule moves. This grease has the viscosity of honey. It is thick and it is sticky. The capsule must move through this grease, and when it does, its motion is considerably slowed. This is what prevents the shaking from happening and dampens the oscillations that would otherwise occur. The bottom line is that if the capsule is in good shape, or can be repaired even with a solid substance or solid replacement, applying the grease to the rod in the area it moves through is the long term fix. If replacing the rods, also apply this grease if it is not already present on the new rods. This grease is synthetic damping grease lubricant. It isn't cheap, but you don't need much for 4 rods. I found it sold on Amazon for about $10. You get 2 10 gram tubes. If you are doing lots of repairs, you can buy a 50 gram tube for $26.

    I have done a little research on this subject. I ordered some 1/4” … 2 piece screw on clamps. Not sure what they are called.
    If/when I get back into appliances, I intend to try them around the top part of the piece that slides up and down a little.
    Have heard of very good long term results. good results

    Suspension rods. Yeah, I’ve been there. About a year ago. Had a customer with a whirlpool modular machine just like that one shaking violently when it began to spin. 8999 after consulting with several other tech pros, they all seem to think that replacing the rods was a good idea. So I did. Guess what kept on shaking. Just about the same. So I. Wouldn’t call that a cure all for each and every case. There’s been some talk about weighing the basket. Apparently there was a certain amount of water sealed into the upper ring of the basket and the loss of some of it can affect stability of the wash basket while it spins. Needless to say, I’m a little bit gun shy about approaching one of those jobs again

    I've seen one person mention this, and this probably never gets mentioned, but does white lithium grease also have a role to play in this as well? I saw someone else commenting that another thick sticky grease is used to help slow the motion of the cap. Can someone elaborate more on this, please?

    The top cap is compressed by the tobs weight. It not going to move off the spring.

    • @Che9009
      @Che9009 Месяц назад +1

      Yes correct, but what passes over most people heads is that the cap needs to be compressed against the rod, providing some kind of friction, this friction helps slow the rapid up and down movement on the springs.

      @@nicholas8479I think the amount of wear on the foam would determine if dampening grease would work.
      Now I am thinking about putting some aluminum siding pieces between the foam and the housing to make the foam have more even grip on the rod.
      That along with some dampening g grease.

    • @nicholas8479
      @nicholas8479 3 месяца назад

      @@rickeykeeton4770 As a thought experiment, sometimes it helps to think about what would happen at the extremes.
      What would happen if the foam was removed? What would happen if it was replaced with a solid connection?
      Of course, we want something in the middle. Some dampening. But how much?
      It would be cool to be able to dial in varying amounts of dampening and see how the machine reacts.
