So I replaced my suspension rods and after a few months the banging came back. I tried different methods to secure the tub, but the banging kept happening. After watching this video I see there are springs that can be put on the rods. I never had those on my kenmore machine I've looked to see if they broke off and nothing was there. I made my own suspension rod supports. I used some black tie down straps with the silver hooks that flatbed truckers use. What I did was put one on the back right side, I hooked it to the tub post then looped it twice around the rod ran it along side of the tub, and hooked to a opening on the machine in the front. On the left front side I did the same thing, but hooked it to a rear opening. The machine doesn't bang violently anymore, and it is more secure than it was before. I breathed new life in this 8 years old machine.

This is the most accurate diagnosis and fix for the unbalance load issue with my Kenmore Elite Oasis High=Capacity washer. The issue has worsened over time to the point I would have to manually try to balance the load for the spin cycle to finish without banging the machine to death. A couple of issues I encountered though may help anyone else trying to replace the suspension rods on a heavier washer than yours. First of all, I contacted local Appliance Parts store to get the correct rod kit that matched the Model of my washer. It was not the generic part that they had on hand and had to be ordered. The removal requires more effort than shown for my machine. My son assisted by pulling up on the tub to allow me to pull the rods high enough to remove the old plastic seats. I did start with the front two rods. When installing the new rods, I learned to remove the rubber washer that was on each new rod. It is reinstalled from the top and slid down the rod to the bottom before attaching the rod at the top. I also had to remove the bottom seats and install the new seats that came with the new kit. The next effort was to pull the new rod up through the new seat and attach the top piece that hold the rod hook. The tub in this machine was heavy and the rod was nearly impossible to grasp by hand or water pumps but my son recommended using an old rod to hook the new one and with a vise grip I had the strength to pull it up high enough to attach it at the top. This worked with all 4 rods. For smaller washers it may be a one-man job but not for this model since 4 hands were needed for removing and attaching at the tops of the corners. Still this video is spot on and the good news is my washer is 14 years old and is running like a brand-new machine. BTW I replaced the upper and lower bearings on this machine about 3 years ago. The same store got the correct bearings and rented a bearing press kit that worked like a jewel. The rent was re-imbursed upon return of the kit! I found a youtube video on this procedure that was for my identical machine!

So have the same washer and I just replaced the suspension rods thinking it would fix it slamming out of balance. I'm seeing that there's still play from left to right. Those springs are a must. I had to order 4 on Amazon because Lowes doesn't have any washer machine repair parts. The springs apparently keep it center (left and right) while then suspension rods kept it center (up and down). I noticed you took the springs off saying they were pointless. The springs are giving me tension in 4 directions to keep it from bouncing

Thanks, it worked. It is definitely less bouncy up and down after but not much difference side to side. It took me about an hour but only because it was my first time - if I ever do it again it will take less than 20 mins. The new parts from Amazon seem very slightly flimsier but I hope will be fine.
My husband the laundry-nazi kept putting in too many towels at once which wore it out faster. I'm like: you might as well fill it with concrete. It's a Kenmore washer not an Abrams tank. Good thing he's cute.

I replaced the rods in my machine. The new ones pass the push down test. Not unlike pushing on a car bumper to test the shocks. But the machine still goes off balance and bangs/shakes violently unless I stop the machine after it drains the wash water and redistribute the load (I test balance by spinning the tub by hand as fast as I can). Is it possible the replacement rods are bad or some other part? The machine is about 10 years old.

I have replaced the suspension rods and the tub ring. My washer still moves across the floor on the spin cycle. What else could be causing this on a Kenmore 110.20022012 top loading washer

Great video. I replaced my rods now I'm getting the dreaded "oL" code, according to Sears part it means that washer is over loaded, but it's not. Anyone experience a similar issue? If so, how did you resolve it? Thank you much

What if it’s out of balance but the tub doesn’t bounce?

Sears repair wanted $377 to do this repair. Charged me $100 to tell me what was wrong. I did it in 20 minutes and paid $18 for the rod kit. I can buy the same new washer for $399 delivered. Pirates.

I charge somewhere around $200 for this repair. I always install oem parts though and mark up the part.
