Slightly unrelated comment, but since you mentioned Benrinnes, I recently picked up a cask strength Signatory 10yo Benrinnes (ex bourbon) based on one of your older videos on the Flora and Fauna series. I've only had a few sessions with it, but damn is it meaty and savoury!
Great list, lot of stuff I haven't tried either. The cragallachie 13 isn't a surprise haha. Couple months back, I bought all my friends a bottle of AD Sherry, so that's the xmas list for me :)

Don´t know if this qualifies as a lesser known option as much hype as the distillery has seen throughout the last years, but today i went to my most favourite whisky shop to pick up something i ordered before and mentioned i wouldn´t really need the change for anything what left us with a 40 euro budget so i told my most favourite whisky shop owner, she´s a lady, it´s your choice, just give me something i´ll really like. So i ended up with a Ledaig sinclair series rioja cask finish and it´s astonshingly beautiful, especially considering the low price. it has everything: it´s fruity, it´s smoky, it´s bold but elegant at the same time, there´s a slight breeze of ocean as you´d wish in an island whisky and most important it´s delicious.

Really, what do you think about today's trends, that they put a basic dram in every type of barrel (as many types as possible) and push it out onto the market. It's as if whiskey goes on par with fruit-flavored/sweetened beers/ciders.

Good video Geoff. Not tried all of these but I've had the Craigellachie 13, HP, Laga 8 and Penderyn Madeira, and I have to agree with you on these. Especially the Penderyn Mediera. I live in Wales, and Penderyn are my local distillery, being about 15 miles away. By the way, Penderyn is pronounced slightly differently. its pronounced more like "Pendehrin" (so the first half doesnt sound like "Pender", more like "Pendeh", no "er" sound in the middle, more of an "eh" if you know what I mean! GOD its difficult putting sounds into words sometimes!!!😁 By the way, I can 100% recommend the "Penderyn Peated Portwood" (not to be mistaken with the "Penderyn Portwood" and the "Penderyn Peated" by the way, the "Peated Portwood" is a totally different beast) Really recommend you get yourself a bottle. It's an absolute stunner. One of my all-time favourites in fact...and I've tried LOADS (not as much as you of course!) 😄Keep up the good work. Fantastic channel.

Decent list. For bare-bones peat, I like BenRiach Curiositas. I thought it had been discontinued, but there's a store near me that keeps on selling it and I keep on drinking it. 55 USD. Peat+sherry = Machir Bay. Gentle - Clynelish 14; older - nah, I'll pass. lol; non-scotch, Old Forester 1920 (bourbon). Sherried - Tamdhu 12 (or 15 if you want to spend).

A real whisky geek list! Been hunting for that Benrinnes for ages never seems to show up in Canada. Will give the Kingsbarns and the Japaenee--y one on a go on our recommend you've never steered me wrong so far. Fav bottles for me at the moment which would all make great gifts for a Scotch lover: Ancnoc 18, Craigellachie 17, Bladnoch anything, Arran 10 (never gets old), G&M Mortlach 15, Glencadam 15, Glenfarclas 15, Hazelburn 10, and an honourable mention to Ancnoc 12 which I can get for $50 CAD in Alberta. I dare anyone to find a better value than that. Cheers!

I'd describe the price points of Nikka's whiskies as "financial ruin before getting tipsy" in Europe and "expedited liver cirrhosis twice over with money to spare" in Japan. I nearly did a double backflip when I first saw a bottle of Yoichi in a store there.
Geoff, my wife and I just got back from a ten-day trip to Tokyo. While there, I was intently whisky shopping. My target was any special, hard to find Nikka Miyagikyo or Taketsuru. I had a hard time finding Nikka on the shelves in Tokyo. The only ones relatively more available was the Nikka Super. I did come across the regular Miyakigio that is readily available here in California. I found many bottles from lesser known distilleries. So I ended up taking home a Togouchi Sake Cask. I just had a dram while watching this video. It is bland as heck. However, I did find some interesting tastes; green apple, for example.
Interesting! I'll be in Tokyo this weekend so I'll see if I stumble across any Nikka there. Even if I don't find any, there's never any shortage of interesting bottles to buy there! 🥃
Bought the miyagikyo for part of a Japanese whisky tasting this holiday season. Japanese whisky is Hard to get here in ontario Canada but for whatever reason an abundance of options recently showed up in our liquor stores (mostly gone now). Looking forward to trying it. Each of my boys is getting a bottle of yoichi to take home. You have some interesting choices. I’ll keep an eye out for the 18 yo speyburne and the benrinnes. Bought the craiglachie 13 recently. Great finish but … not for me. Cheers!

Solid solid list Geoff. Bare Bonds peat I have to go with Laphroaig 10 cs, I can't argue with Miyagikyo, but I haven't tried the Speyburn 18. Hi Jeff would like to know which market you belong to? ie where you live and buy your whisky. Because in Ontario, Canada the prices of some bottles that you mention are way too high (especially during the big price increase during the last 6 months) and sometimes not even sold. Thanks.

I wrote twice to tell Doug Ford ( with all the complaints against him), that he is definitely someone who thinks and operates out of the box!! They were kind enough to reply too. The talk about privatizing liquor sales and dismantling the LCBO is constant and someday Ontario may change everything for the better. When we go across the border south we are shocked to see the price difference in the US even after taxes. Any non-drinker who goes to New Hampshire is always given a list because there are no taxes there. And Jeff if you find it convenient please do tell us the prices in Taiwan sometime! I admire those Brits who can just go online and order whatever they want!! That's what it should be!

All good. Big Peat 12 seems to me to go very much under the radar. Its ca. for 37 EUR here in Czechia, which I think is a good price.

I love the Lagavulin 8. Like the Craighallachie 13, it is very underrated in the whisky community IMO .

Hi Jeff would like to know which market you belong to? ie where you live and buy your whisky. Because in Ontario, Canada the prices of some bottles that you mention are way too high (especially during the big price increase during the last 6 months) and sometimes not even sold. Thanks.
Hi Dylan. I'm in Taiwan. I'm lucky, as whisky is cheap and varied here. Sadly those descriptors do not, and have never, applied to the LCBO. 🥃

I wrote twice to tell Doug Ford ( with all the complaints against him), that he is definitely someone who thinks and operates out of the box!! They were kind enough to reply too. The talk about privatizing liquor sales and dismantling the LCBO is constant and someday Ontario may change everything for the better. When we go across the border south we are shocked to see the price difference in the US even after taxes. Any non-drinker who goes to New Hampshire is always given a list because there are no taxes there. And Jeff if you find it convenient please do tell us the prices in Taiwan sometime! I admire those Brits who can just go online and order whatever they want!! That's what it should be!
