And we will have to learn some of the principles of Methodism in respect to immigrants of all races and creeds, and embrace them, and love our diversity. The nurse that attended to me in hospital was a nurse first, I do not know her religion but when you are not well you know no colour, no race, no creed. When I think of her I just know she had lovely eyes and she gave me comfort. The parable of the Good Samaritan needs to be heeded, so the voice of the Turtle will be heard again in the land. However we joined the Common Market then left the European Union having been overrun by eastern europeans, nowhere near all but too many, who arrived to take advantage of our generosity, weak Courts, and an inability to send the 'criminal' class home. Even now the Court Lists have many eastern European names. I accept that society in general has changed considerably over the years, but feel certain that the change for the worse was throwing open the gates to all without control. If we went back to '73 I would join the Common Market again and probably, with some hindsight regret, alter my view to be a remainer, with the regret that our european parliamentarians failed to protect, not only the UK but, the EU from the rush to absorb the ex-soviet satellites into it's bosom at one time. Now were down, temporarily, some europeans can enjoy giving us a kicking.

I'd say it's quite the opposite: we took them very seriously. They wanted out, we respected their will and let them out of the EU. We assumed they were mature enough to understand and accept the pros and cons of Brexit. They themselves told us they knew what they were voting for. So we took them at their word: they knew what they were doing, it was all deliberate, rational and planned. I just hope we continue to treat them like mature and responsible people, who wouldn't go back on a commitment and respect the results of the referendum in the future. If they say they want back in, we should tell them: "No, no. There's no need for that. We respect you too much. Like responsible adults, you made your choice and we understand and respect that. We don't doubt for a second that you knew exactly what you were doing. So... full steam ahead, Britain! Good luck with your Brexit!" And we should give them what they ask for, to show our support. "Oh, you want a No Deal Brexit? Absolutely, let's burn the TCA! Always happy to support the will of the British people. You want out of the ECHR/Council of Europe? Don't worry, we'll close the door after you."

Fixing the problem of economic migration from failed states by the route of organised people smuggling involves the whole Western world (Europe, North America and Australasia) and has zilch to do with being in the EU.
But the Brexit idiots did not just ruin the UK economy in the short, medium and long term (ie there will never be any Brexit benefit), they also with their cavalier attitude to agreements they signed and serial lying had burned all trust - and that’s with not just with the EU and EEC, but also with the US which realised that the UK was making itself irrelevant and destroying its own economy and therefore has instead turned to ramping up its ties with France, Germany, Poland and others. Others like Australia regard the UK with contempt as witnessed by the terms of the UK-Australia Trade Agreement which favour Australia so much they will destroy much of UK agriculture.

I want to take his opportunity to correct a misapprehension under which the people of Clacton appear to be labouring
It was not, repeat not the thesis of Galileo
That the Sun took a detour from its usual course down the alimentary canal of Nigel Farage to emerge bloody but unbowed in his underpants,
nor that when he donned the same underpants it caused an eclipse of the Sun..
I make this point dispassionately because, a critic as I am, of the Inquisition in the Seventeenth Century even so they were not as credulous as critics would argue, and that even in Seventeenth Century Italy reason had asserted itself sufficiently as not to believe in absurdity, I cannot say the same for the people of Clacton who seem to cherish that afore said illusion and that the Sun manifested itself at Mr Farage's sarth end
I on the other hand favour immigration because the people in small boats have rather better intellects and higher intelligence than the people that voted for Reform. It takes all sorts to make a world but only ignorant and stupid people lie you to end it.

    "We have made ourselves irrelevant".
We have high levels of poverty including children without beds.
High levels of homelessness eclipsing the US; we are just better at hiding it by spending huge sums to put families in bed and breakfast accommodation.
We have just 100 main battle tanks. The latest report says we are unable to fulfil our role in NATO and we are unable to defend ourselves.
We have 72,000 troops who could fit into Old Trafford with ease but would leave huge gaps in Wembley.
Our Navy just commissioned two aircraft carriers for which we have insufficient F35B Lightening 2, so we have had to ask the US to supply half the rota. Oh and one of them leaks after a few days at sea.
The list of problems is too long to contemplate.
    We are failing.
We have to pick ourselves up and show we can be successful, relevant and necessary before the EU would contemplate having us join any of EFTA, EEA, Single Market or EU.
It is going to be a tall order, we need to keep the Tories out of it as they have a destructive zeal second to none.

Weakening the west was ALWAYS a key strategic objective for China and Russia. Brexit was a major step in that direction. Getting donald trump, who has already said he would pull the US out of NATO and most every alliance the US is part of, back into the White House would almost guarantee that Russia and China can dominate the globe ... without ever having fired a shot in anger.

Putin seeming to support Brexit, should have been an absolute red flag, but I dont think it was at the time.
Britain isolating itself getting a harder Brexit than nessesary is so sad.
At least Theresa May put a lot of work into negotiating a deal. Of course the deal would be critisized no matter what, but when Johnson got his hands on the power all was lost. All fun and showmanship, no work put into this. At least thats how it looked from Denmark.

Furthermore, the EU is not interested in twiddling at the edges of the TCA, they have a lot of problems on their collective plate (not the least being the proto-fascists slowly grabbing power). British farming is on an inevitable long decline, and with imports from half a world away to feed the country, UK food security will be a joke in a few years.

Without the UK, the EU is now able to deepen defense cooperation, procurement etc, since the UK always blocked that for their master across the pond, and for its own ego thinking it is an important (rent - a - nuke) nuclear power and the only one that can "protect" or even "safe" the EU from Russia.

Putin wants a weak UK. One less party he has to worry about in his intention of restoring the Russian Empire. A UK outside of the European Block is irrelevant and, thus, presents no trouble. Hence why he favours and even aids Farage and his party and was an instrumental part in the background of the machinations that brought forth Brexit. This has been in preparation for quite some time. By removing the UK from the EU, Putin and his lackeys thought that they'd get rid of a potential threat by weakening the european block so that his invasion of Ukraine (first) would be met with passivity by the EU. What he underestimated was Europe's ability to endure brexit. As every specialist and expert alerted before, the UK suffered tremendously with brexit and will keep on suffering for quite a few decades but the EU didn't suffer as much as expected. They were, then, fully capable of enduring the ripple effects of a war of attrition. Putin didn't see that coming. Now, even if the english are stupid enough to vote for a pro-Russia government (Farage with Reform), it's of no consequence, because the UK is now irrelevant in world affairs and it would only serve to alienate the UK from the Western World even further and put them in the same bag as Russia, China, Iran, Afghanistan, etc. Putin's plan - which did had its merits - sort-of backfired. This in spite of his tremendous success in forwarding brexit.
