  • So Boris Johnson regrets apologising for partygate and blames
David Cameron for Brexit being a disaster.
He just wanted to win an argument, he claims that Cameron failed to do a white paper on Brexit and should’ve stayed in office.

@@brianferguson7840 But at least he's read this stuff, which is more than Remoaners have.
      1. THE EU’s FEDERAL INTENTIONS (ie. to make one big country)
Lisbon Treaty Article 3.4: “The Union shall establish an ECONOMIC and monetary UNION whose currency is the euro.”
EU Five Presidents’ Report, 2015: “Progress MUST HAPPEN on four fronts: first, towards a genuine ECONOMIC UNION that ensures each economy has the structural features to prosper within the Monetary Union. Second, towards a FINANCIAL UNION that guarantees the integrity of our currency across the Monetary Union and increases risk-sharing with the private sector. This means completing the Banking Union and accelerating the Capital Markets Completing Europe’s Economic and Monetary Union. Third, towards a FISCAL UNION that delivers both fiscal sustainability and fiscal stabilisation. And finally, towards a POLITICAL UNION that provides the foundation for all of the above through genuine democratic accountability, legitimacy and institutional strengthening.”
Angela Merkel’s immediate response to the referendum result, 24th June 2016: “Today is a watershed moment for Europe, and it is a watershed moment for the EUROPEAN UNIFICATION PROCESS. There is no doubt that this is a blow to Europe, and to the EUROPEAN UNIFICATION PROCESS.”
EU Rome Declaration, 25th March 2017: “Working towards COMPLETING the ECONOMIC and monetary UNION” (with a preferred deadline for completion of 2027).
ECB’s ‘Fiscal Implications of the EU Recovery Package’ 2020. “The way that the EU has responded to the crisis also has implications for the future design and implementation of the EUROPEAN GOVERNANCE FRAMEWORK. First, while expansionary fiscal policy is necessary to sustain the recovery, going forward it will be important for the fiscal rules to effectively support the reduction of high government debt in good economic times. Second, NGEU constitutes a new and innovative element of the EUROPEAN FISCAL FRAMEWORK. It will result in the issuance of sizeable supranational debt over the coming years, and its establishment has signalled a political readiness to design a common fiscal tool when the need arises. This innovation, while a one-off, could also imply lessons for ECONOMIC and Monetary UNION, which still lacks a PERMANENT FISCAL CAPACITY AT SUPRANATIONAL LEVEL for macroeconomic stabilisation in deep crises. The review of the ECONOMIC GOVERNANCE FRAMEWORK, which was launched by the Commission in February 2020 and postponed because of the pandemic, provides a GOOD OPPORTUNITY TO INCORPORATE THESE IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS.” (NGEU stands for “Next Generation European Union”).
From the EU’s own website: “Once the economic and financial crisis (of 2008/9) was overcome, the EU established a process aimed at reinforcing the architecture of EMU (ECONOMIC and monetary UNION). The process is based on the Five Presidents’ Report on Completing Europe’s Economic and Monetary Union of 2015, which focused on four main issues:
      • A genuine ECONOMIC UNION;
      • A FINANCIAL UNION;
      • A FISCAL UNION;
      • A POLITICAL UNION.
These four unions are STRICTLY INTER-RELATED and would develop in parallel. The report was followed by a series of communications, proposals and measures, and the discussion is still ongoing.”
In 2022 all member states reaffirmed their commitment to economic union, as part of Lisbon Treaty Article 3.
From the EU’s website (dated 29/4/24): “Today the Council adopted three pieces of legislation that will reform the EU’s ECONOMIC AND FISCAL GOVERNANCE FRAMEWORK.
‘The main objective of the reform is to ensure sound and sustainable public finances, while promoting sustainable and inclusive growth in all member states through reforms and investment.
The new legislation will significantly improve the existing framework and provide effective and applicable rules for all EU countries. They will safeguard balanced and sustainable public finances, increase the focus on structural reforms and investments to spur growth and job creation throughout the EU. The time is now for a swift implementation’: Vincent Van Peteghem, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Belgium.”
      2. THE EU’S MILITARY INTENTIONS
Lisbon Treaty Article 42.3: “Member states shall make civilian and MILITARY capabilities available to the Union for the implementation of the common security and defence policy, to contribute to the objectives DEFINED BY THE EUROPEAN COUNCIL.”
The EU’s military headquarters is the Kortenberg Building in Brussels.
The EU Global Strategy, 30th June 2016, issued exactly one week after the referendum, contains the right of the EU’s military “to act autonomously (of NATO) if and when necessary”.
It will need this, because, as you should know, Lisbon Treaty Article 42 commits member states to the defence of a member under attack. So if Ukraine is still under attack when it joins the EU, it will be the EU which is at war with Russia, not NATO. The defence of Ukraine doesn’t trigger the NATO charter.
On 19th February 2019 Federica Mogherini told an audience in Hamburg: “... all the way through the security spectrum, up to the military operations, because not so many know that the European Union has seventeen deployed missions and operations around the world. So, together, we are already a unique global security provider.” I checked this figure recently. It now stands at twenty-one.
On 23rd April 2019 the European Council issued its Military Command and Control Structures document, outlining its military command structure over member states’ land, sea and air forces. The diagram contained within reappears on the Wikipedia page for the Kortenberg Building, above.
In September 2021 Ursula Von der Leyen said this: “But what we need is the European Defence Union. In the last weeks there have been many discussions on expeditionary forces. On what type and how many we need: battlegroups or EU entry forces. This is no doubt part of the debate - and I believe it will be part of the solution. But the more fundamental issue is why this has not worked in the past. You can have the most advanced forces in the world - but if you are never prepared to use them - of what use are they?”
Last year the EU led joint military exercises in Spain. This is taken from the EU’s CSDP website: “The two-part MILEX 23 exercise commenced on 18 September and concluded on 22 October. The first part of this intense period was a 3-week planning phase by the MPCC in Brussels. In part two, this culminated in the EU’s first ever live military exercise from 16 - 22 October in Rota Naval Base, Cadiz, Spain. During Part 2, an EU Battlegroup-sized force carried out the Operational Plan developed by the MPCC in Part 1. Overall, 19 Member States contributed to MILEX 23.”
(CSDP = Common Security and Defence Policy. MPCC = Military Planning and Conduct Capability).
      3. Reckless EU expansionism across Eastern Europe - widely known and reported on, including Albania (hotbed of gangsterism and corruption), Serbia and Montenegro (both traditional allies of Russia), Moldova (part of it coveted by Russia), Ukraine (currently at war with Russia), Turkey (instantly the largest, most populous and poorest country in the EU upon joining) and several others, all of which will bring nothing but a begging bowl to the EU’s table. Oh, except for Ukraine, because, as above, Lisbon Treaty Article 42 commits member states to the military aid of a member under attack. So if Ukraine is still at war upon its accession the EU will be at war with Russia.
      4. Unfettered migration into Europe from North Africa and the Middle East (the free movement of people was a secret part of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, in effect since 2010, and signed between the EU and Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, the Palestine Authority, Lebanon, Syria and Turkey). “Eurocrats do not consider (migration) to be a problem, but rather as a project”: Fabrice Leggeri, former Director of the European Border and Coastguard Agency (Frontex). "The European Union and all leaders of all European nations MUST USE IMMIGRATION to undermine the homogeneity and ethnic identity of the native European people no matter how difficult this will be to explain to the citizens of their nations. This must happen, THIS WILL HAPPEN for globalism to take hold of Europe" - Peter Sutherland speaking in the House of Lords in 2014.

My goodness, do I detect another load of cobras that keep trying to claim ........only the English voted for Brexit. I thought English exceptionalism was unique to us, but clearly it exists in all the other nations of the UK who try to claim none of their people voted Leave! That was nonsense in 2016 and is still nonsense in 2024! Talk about Teflon shoulders! Wales voted Leave......but that also gets blamed on English immigrants, despite the fact that the vox pops at the time interviewed only people with very distinct Welsh accents who were all Leave voters....odd that! Scotland and NI voted by a majority to Remain, but it wasn't 100%, nowhere near. Therefore when the votes were aggregated across the whole country a minute majority won .....remember 48/52 ......on an 'advisory referendum'. Therefore sufficient numbers in all the regions of the UK voted Leave and tipped the balance into the chaos we have suffered for the last 8 years. It is ironic that the Tories are usually the ones to conjure up imagery of the British Empire and 'when Britain ruled the world' and having dominion over numerous countries, and yet pushed a unicorn Brexit that not only threw our remaining Territories and Dependencies under the bus, e.g Gibraltar, various Caribbean Islands etc, but will probably accelerate the break up of the dis United Kingdom.

No, the Tory party members put him into #10. The electorate decided to keep his party there (well, sort of... the party didn't gain many more votes in 2019, but Labour lost them to the Lib Dems on one side and the Brexshit party on the other). We don't get to elect the PM. There is a tradition that the monarch gives the role to the leader of the party who can command a majority in the House of Commons.
Johnson's first roughly six months as PM were due to him and others hounding May out of the job by not voting for her Brexshit withdrawal deal which would have included the Irish backstop. An election was called in the December after Johnson couldn't get a deal through either and ended up without a majority after kicking those who voted against him out of the party.

I think it is worth noting that even one of Boris' brothers diasgrees with him. I find it incredibly nauseating and infuriating that he has the audacity to state that he regrets apologising for partygate which to my mind is akin to flinging and rubbing mud in the faces of all those who obeyed the rules and had to say their goodbyes to their loved ones via video chat - and those were the few lucky ones that could say goodbye. Many couldn't even farewell of their loved ones. That pain was symbolically embodied in the televised view of the late Queen sitting alone in the chapel at the late Duke of Edinburgh's funeral. Johnson has absolutely no shame whatsoever and his attitude will likely have angered every family who suffered and were impacted from the royals to the lowliest family in the land in equal measure. Yet, the Tories want him back and that tells us exactly what we need to know about how they consider the people of the country. I.e., they view everyone except themselves in contempt.

He says David Cameron should have stayed on after the referendum and produced a White Paper on leaving the EU: yes, that's the one thing that Boris is kind of right about. Cameron should have set up a Parliamentary Commission to look at the various options for leaving the EU, and once that commission had reported he should have called a further referendum on whether we should leave the EU on the proposed terms or stay in on the current terms. There is a difference between voting for an actual plan and just voting for a vague concept.

I would like to see a debate on the ongoing damage caused by Brexit, which is being largely ignored.
The Benefits of Brexit (If Any)
Brexit was sold on a number of key promises, many of which involved regaining control over the UK’s laws, borders, and trade. Proponents argued that the country would benefit from financial savings by no longer contributing to the EU budget and would gain the freedom to negotiate its own trade deals. The UK’s annual net contribution to the EU before Brexit was approximately £9.4 billion. Leaving the EU was seen as an opportunity to redirect these funds to domestic priorities, such as the NHS.
Another theoretical benefit was the potential to reduce EU regulations, which some argued stifled UK businesses. This, it was claimed, would allow for greater flexibility and innovation, particularly in industries such as agriculture, fishing, and financial services. Brexit supporters also expected more control over immigration, particularly by ending the free movement of people, theoretically reducing pressure on jobs and public services.
However, while these potential benefits were politically important and symbolic, the measurable economic gains have been limited. Meanwhile, the costs have been far more pronounced.
The Chronic Damage of Brexit: Financial Losses and Economic Fallout
Brexit’s financial and economic damage is not a one-off shock but more akin to a slow, long-term decline-akin to a chronic illness such as cancer. The economic costs continue to accumulate year after year, affecting businesses, workers, and the UK's overall financial health.
    Annual Financial Costs
Permanent GDP Loss: According to the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR), Brexit is expected to permanently reduce the UK's GDP by approximately 4%. This equates to a loss of about £100 billion per year compared to what the economy would have produced had the UK remained in the EU. In 2022, the Centre for European Reform (CER) calculated that the economy was 5.5% smaller due to Brexit, meaning the loss in annual GDP was even higher.
Tax Revenue Shortfall: A smaller economy also means less tax revenue. The OBR estimates that the UK government is losing around £40 billion in tax receipts annually as a direct result of Brexit's drag on economic growth. This exacerbates the strain on public services, such as healthcare and education, that depend on these revenues.
    Job Losses
Brexit has led to significant job losses across multiple industries, particularly those that were heavily reliant on access to the EU single market or on EU labour.
    Automotive Industry:
The automotive sector has been severely impacted, with major manufacturers like Honda closing its Swindon plant, resulting in the loss of 3,500 jobs. Additionally, Ford shifted production to the EU, contributing to an estimated over 50,000 job losses in the broader industry due to supply chain disruptions, reduced demand, and relocation of production facilities.
    Financial Services:
London, long a global financial hub, has lost its dominant position in certain sectors of the financial services industry. By 2023, around 7,000 financial sector jobs had officially moved to cities such as Paris, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam, with the relocation of staff, capital, and resources continuing as firms seek to maintain EU market access. Estimates suggest that the financial services sector could lose as much as £10 billion annually due to lost business and jobs shifting abroad.
    Agriculture:
The agricultural sector has faced severe labour shortages due to the loss of migrant workers from the EU. This has led to crops being left unharvested and farms going out of business. Approximately 15-20% of the workforce in agriculture has disappeared since Brexit, leading to widespread job losses and closures, particularly in labour-intensive areas such as fruit and vegetable farming.
    Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs):
Many SMEs that previously relied on frictionless trade with the EU have faced insurmountable barriers due to new tariffs, customs checks, and additional paperwork. Around 20,000 small businesses have reportedly closed or scaled back operations since Brexit, unable to cope with the added costs and complexity of trading with the EU.
    Impact on Trade and Investment
    Trade Losses:
The UK’s trade with the EU has dropped significantly since Brexit. Exports to the EU fell by 14% in 2021 compared to 2019, while imports from the EU dropped by 24%. Non-tariff barriers, such as customs delays and regulatory divergence, have made trade more costly and time-consuming. According to the OBR, the overall impact on trade is expected to be a 15% reduction in the long term compared to a no-Brexit scenario, costing the UK economy around £80 billion annually.
    Business Investment:
Business investment has suffered due to the uncertainty and reduced access to the EU market. Since the Brexit referendum, business investment growth in the UK has been sluggish, lagging behind other G7 economies. The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) estimates that Brexit has cut UK business investment by 25% since 2016, contributing to a significant reduction in productivity and innovation.
    Loss of Foreign Direct Investment:
Foreign investment into the UK has fallen sharply since Brexit. The UK's attractiveness as a gateway to the EU for multinational firms has diminished, with many companies now preferring to set up operations within the EU to avoid trade barriers. The UK used to be one of the top destinations for foreign direct investment in Europe, but in 2022, foreign investment had fallen by 37% compared to 2015.
    Specific Business and Activity Closures
Manufacturing: The automotive industry has seen major plant closures, such as Honda's Swindon plant and Ford's Bridgend engine plant, with thousands of jobs lost. Brexit has made it less attractive for international carmakers to manufacture in the UK due to higher trade costs and supply chain disruptions.
Retail: Retailers like Marks & Spencer have closed several stores across Europe, particularly in France, due to difficulties in maintaining supply chains and increased customs costs. Retailers have faced an additional burden of £5 billion in costs due to the new trading environment, pushing some to abandon EU markets altogether.
Fishing Industry: Despite promises of a "Brexit dividend" for the UK’s fishing industry, regulatory barriers and reduced access to EU markets have hurt exports, particularly for shellfish. Some estimates suggest the industry could lose around £300 million annually in exports, leading to job losses and the closure of several small fisheries.
    Long-Term Forecasts
The long-term economic forecasts paint a bleak picture for the UK economy post-Brexit. The Bank of England has warned that the economy will remain on a lower growth trajectory compared to its European counterparts. The OBR predicts that UK productivity will remain suppressed, with overall economic growth lagging behind the EU by at least 0.5-1% annually. This compounding effect means that over the next decade, the UK economy could be £1 trillion smaller than it would have been had it stayed in the EU.
Loss of EU Funding and Opportunities
Loss of EU Structural Funds: The UK has lost access to EU structural funds, which previously provided up to £11 billion over a seven-year period for regional development, infrastructure, and innovation. The government’s replacement funding, via the Shared Prosperity Fund, has been criticised as inadequate, leaving regions such as Wales and Cornwall underfunded.
Loss of Erasmus: The UK's withdrawal from the Erasmus programme, which facilitated education and cultural exchanges, has deprived students of the chance to study abroad with EU financial support. Replacing it with the less generous Turing Scheme, which does not fund EU students coming to the UK, has reduced the international appeal of British universities.
Conclusion: A Slow and Painful Decline
Brexit’s economic impact is not a short-term disruption but a chronic condition that continues to sap the UK's economic strength. While there were some symbolic benefits, the reality is that the UK faces permanent damage to its economy-estimated at £100 billion annually, with significant job losses, reduced trade, and lower investment. The financial fallout of Brexit will continue to be felt for decades, and the promises of prosperity and sovereignty have, for the most part, not materialised. Instead, the UK is grappling with a slow and painful economic decline.
    Final Words
While the UK is no longer contributing to the European Union’s budget, saving around £9.4 billion per year, this figure pales in comparison to the overall financial losses that Brexit has inflicted on the British economy. The annual economic cost of Brexit is now estimated at around £100 billion per year due to reduced GDP, lower tax revenues, job losses, and diminished trade. This means that for every £1 saved from EU contributions, the UK is losing over £10 in lost economic output and investment.
Since the Brexit referendum in 2016, the cumulative loss to the UK economy up to 2023 is estimated to be around £400 billion in missed GDP growth, tax revenue shortfalls, and trade deficits. By 2030, economists predict that the UK will have lost over £1 trillion in total economic damage as a result of Brexit, continuing to erode the country's financial stability and international competitiveness.
In sum, while the direct savings from leaving the EU are modest, the cost to the UK in terms of lost trade, investment, and economic performance is vast-and it continues to grow year by year, creating an enduring and chronic economic burden for the country.

Your comment can go in a textbook.
      1.
Individual points were also made in this or a similar way in some media before the referendum.
      2.
It was not in the media owned by the rich and which spread the propaganda of their owners to the people.
      3.
Farage, Truss, Rees-Mogg, Boris Johnson are stooges of the rich.
      4.
Pardon? You're asking about the role of the Labour Party?
The rich bought Labour. They did it with the Trojan horse trick: it's officially called Tony Blair.
Blair first killed Labour and then proclaimed New Labour. Which in reality was and is a flawless neoliberal plundering society. Its job is to deceive ordinary workers in order to strip them naked financially.
      5.
Anyone who has voted Labour since 1997 is 99% voting for nothing but the Tories.
      6.
Do you know the main trick of all financial salesmen on the phone? It's the appointment alternative trick:
“When is most convenient for you, Tuesday at 11.00am or Friday at 4.00pm”
      Have you seen through it?
The idea is to stop you from thinking about whether you want a salesperson in your home at all. You should only think about choosing between these two offers.
      Applied to politics:
You can only choose which wolf will tear you apart - financially.
The rich won't let you escape. But you can choose the wolf.
      They're nice, the rich ... aren't they?
      7.
      Oh, I almost forgot:
Mrs. Thatcher broke the unions even before the rich bought Labour Party.
And since they weren't French unions - they would have destroyed Thatcher - but harmless British ones, it worked very easily.
      8.
And so the rich, in collaboration with their henchmen in politics and the media, suppress the discussion. Learning from Goebbels means learning to win.
      Have a nice weekend everyone

He and his party had full control over the negotiations with the eu
They come in thinking to be the great British empire a world superpower
And they discovered to be just one European nation against 27 united countries that were absolutely convinced on not giving an inch to the brits
They tried to make a deal
But the Conservative Party took down his own prime minister proposal of a soft deal in exchange with a no deal
And now the uk is by far the worse economy in the entire eurozone
And the Brit’s are discovering that if they want to trade with us they still have to abide to eu regulations
Regulations that they have no control over and a lot of red tape to add to their industries that now cannot compete with the rest of the eurozone due to increased cost and checks at the border with significant delay in shipping and transport
Why trade with a uk company and deal with all the shipping delays tax checks and red tape while you can get the same things from a eu based company and have zero burocracy to deal with and no limit on transportation in the entire continental eu?
    This was not rocket science
Economic advisors screamed that it was a bad idea and that the uk would lose badly in this situation
Not to mention the delusion of grandeur
    Sorry guys
The uk empire is no more
And the days of Britannia rules the waves also are dead
Believing that the uk can have the same economic benefits and trade agreement that could replace the income generated by being part of the eu with indipendent countries from the other side of the world was pure delusion
The days of the empire are long gone and now even the commonwealth countries deal as equal with the uk and not as vassal to be exploited for markets and resources
The uk entered the eu as leader of an empire
But it exit the door as a pale shadow of it former glory
Believing that uk can thrive on its own like in the Victorian era without an entire world empire of cheap resources and internal markets to exploit was so out of touch with reality to me amusing

Anyhow, Cameron failed to set a threshold (say 60) to implement a potential leave vote (though the referendum was advisory). Such a dramatic constitutional change should never have been based on a slim majority of 51.9% thereby taking away EU membership privileges from the other 48% and those too young to vote.
He was bad to call it, but he was irresponsible not to put any thresholds in place.
Arrogance was his issue. He was so certain that remain would be victorious. If it wasn't for him making the irresponsible decision, essentially for party management, the likess of Johnson would never have been prime minister and given us the socially and economically damaging brexit deal based on fantasy.
To add to that, as it was an advisory referendum, it left more scope for people to lie and influence voters. If it was stipulated as a legally binding referendum, those lying in the leave campaign would be legally held to account as they hampered people from making an informed decision.
